i have two computers,the same brand IBM, same capacity, same speed. and i want to know what is different between it both? is it by check its CPU id or what ? please give me some guid line .....

Some parts carry unique ID numbers that may be available through some function.
None of them is perfect though.
Examples:
- hard disks contain a physical ID, however under Vista you need admin rights to read it.
- Ethernet network cards have a MAC ID, it can be temporarily modified by software.
- the baseboard often has a serial number, it gets stored in the BIOS EEPROM, and can be wiped out by a BIOS upgrade.
etc.
In a secure environment, and when available, I would go for the baseboard number.
You would need WMI (Win32_BaseBoard) to get at it.

AFAIK harddisk manufacturers don't have to provide an ID, and when they do it does not have to be unique (althouth it does not make much sense to have duplicates within one brand); I know of no standard way to ensure available IDs are unique across manufacturers.
Some CPUs include a unique ID register, however when present, the feature is turned off by default, and turning it on requires a BIOS access and probably a reboot as well.
As I said earlier none of the IDs is perfect, however depending on your goals, one may be much better than another.

You can download hardware analysis tool. If you looking to check CPU u can try cpuid.

If they have "Network interface cards" then you can check their MAC addresses, because MAC address is unique.

I'm planning on replacing my development machine when Win 7 comes out. I'm now running a Shuttle G6, but Shuttle's quality has really slid in the past several years, and I'm looking to make a change.
I'm running a dual monitor setup, and I'd like to find a compact, desktop model, rather than a tower--something the size of a Shuttle or smaller, that will run two monitors. Several manufacturers offer 'slimline' models that are designed to sit on the end of a desk or workstation. That's what I'm looking for.
so, what would you suggest as a good machine that fits that form factor and isn't particularly expensive? Thanks!

It really depends on what you are going to do with the machine. Dual-screen probably means you're developing and/or running office apps on it. In that case, the cheaper Intel Atom desktops won't be able to cut it. They can be had for 300 EUR and are suitable for internet surfing and basic office use, but not for games and CPU-heavy apps.
The Via Nano and Nvidia Ion series are a _little_ higher end, but any Core2Duo will beat those anyway.
I'd check out a few barebones, but the only manufacturer coming to mind is Shuttle - which you want to avoid. Hmm.
You could check out the Mini-ITX-boards the web has to offer, as well as the corresponding cases.

Hi,
I need to write a c/c++ code to get the bios rom size.
so I choose the SPI RDID cmd, I have gone through the web for samples,
but the codes are almost embedded stuff.
I need this utility to run on my Notebook, the SPI flash chip connect with EC(embedded controller).
how can I get the SPI base address register, also other SPI register offset(SPI Data register/SPI CMD register/SPI Config register).
Any insight will be high appreciated.

Hello to all.
I m using HP laserjet 6L Gold Printer. And recently I changed my system. Now I m trying to use my printer but It will not working.
System Configure: core 2 Duo process, DG31PR motherboard, 2GB RAM.
Printer Configure: It contain Parallel Port Connector.
Problem is in motherboard no parallel port connector so I used PCI Card.
Now my system detected Printer and it was installed but it will not printing data.
I was check below things:
1. Data Cable.
2. Default Printer and offset status and It will always in Ready Status.
3. Parallel Port selection LPT3 to LPT1.
Is any other ways to check or any other possibility.

Hello CodeProject,
My microphone on my headset stopped working a few weeks ago, and I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with it. The Microphone / Line-In device says it's working, but it isn't. I've tried rebooting, reconnecting it, disabling/re-enabling it, reconfiguring it, the whole nine yards but nothing seems to work. I'm using Vista, by the way.
I tried following this[^] but in Step 3 Figure 7, my window only has a 'Speakers' bar...no microphone or anything else.
Any help you guys have would be appreciated greatly

Thanks for replying! Actually, I just found out that somehow the driver stopped working and it didn't say anything when I checked. Installing the latest drivers and chipsets from Dell fixed it. Thanks anyways!

I've just built a new PC that has an AMD Phenom II 955 3.2GHz processor. The BIOS sees this. But Windows 7 shows only 1.6GHz.
I've fiddled with the BIOS as much as I can figure out. But to no avail. I've been to the AMD site to see if there is anthing that I can do to get it to work properly, again to no avail (maybe I missed something). Googling hasn't helped as I end up of gamer sites where nothing makes any sense whatsoever.
The only thing in the system that is rated as 1.6GHz is the RAM, but the BIOS setting for it was set to 1066MHz. Also, RAM is pretty much always slower than the processor speed.
I'm at a bit of a loss now as I can't figure out what is wrong. The most irritating things is that because of the slowed down processor the Windows Experience Index is calculated as 3.9 (the 4 year old PC it is replacing has a score of 4.2)
The details:
Motherboard: Gigabyte motherboard MA790XT-UD4P AMD AM3 790X ATX
Processor: AMD CPU AM3 Phenom II X4 955 quad core 3.2GHz x4 Black Edition

Are you sure it's not a reporting error? You could try and run SiSoft Sandra, and see if your performance is as expected with your hardware.

It could be... I have thought about that possibility but the system does seem slightly sluggish and the benchmark tests that windows runs to determine the windows experience score return quite a low result.
I'll look into the SiSoft Sandra thing when I get back home tonight.
