I found an article whose main benefit is a DLL written by the author but provided in binary only. The article just shows how to use that DLL.
As Chris recently stated (probably in the article writing forum) such articles aren't welcome here.
Question before I go ahead and report that article here; assuming that the author would be willing to share the source of the DLL: Is an author able to pick up a closed article in order to publish an edited version? Otherwise I would wait if he responds to a message from me - but I assume he won't because the last time he responded to a message was in 2012. So if he can pick up the closed article I'd rather report it immediately lest I forget it altogether while waiting for a response.

If he can't - and he shouldn't be able to IMO - it can be reopened for him by the staff if he choses to provide the code.
Certainly, we shouldn't leave "binary only" articles - if nothing else, we can't check what they are doing, much less how. So a binary that installs a keylogger, acts as ransomware, or just contains proprietary code is possible, and that should not be allowed.
I'd say: post the OP a message, and report it here for closure rather than deletion. If he is still interested, he can ask the Hamsters to reopen it for modifications.

No reason for me to report it. In this case it is a DLL of the author, in other cases there are DLL's from other sources.
Only my mind, don't take it too serious.

It's not controversial at all. Microsoft's DLLs are first-party components that are part of the platform. CodeProject is for sharing source code explaining how to work with these first-party(Microsoft) DLLs and executables.
We're not an app-sharing site, we're a source code sharing site.

So I think there are a lot of articles reffering not "sourced" libs.
