Cannot find any spam postings. Can you post an example?

That's because I zapped it in moderation.

It's usually a good idea to mention that in the message title - eg: "Spammer from moderation". That way, us mere mortals know that we won't be able to see the spam, and need to take the report on trust.

And just how would that actually help?

If you just say "this user is a spammer", most of us will look at the member's posts to see whether we agree. If we don't find any spam, we'll hold off on reporting the user until you can clarify the situation.
If you say "this user posted some spam that was caught in the moderation queue", we know that it's not going to be visible to most of us. We can then make a decision based on how much we're prepared to trust you.

I disagree; you still need to check anyway. As I think you have.

It would make it clear how the tag spammer has arisen. The existing messages are not spam. The member has made one post which one other member thought was spam and deleted. That helps plenty.

A news story about the shooting victims in Orlando is spam?

I won't judge it on the purpose, but simply on the fact that it's missing everything important for an article, so crappy quality is my judgement.
