You have been told what the correct thing to do is. Let's see, who should I listen to? Experienced members or someone who keeps getting banned? Oooh, that's a tough one, but I think I'll opt to listen to the people who I respect.

The majority of people who post in this forum take the time to help others by posting links to the spam posters, and the messages they post. You seem to have this misconception that you are covering all the edge cases and that you don't need to follow other peoples example, based on very simplistic and flawed reasoning. Suppose we accept that someone has "spam waved" and that they have a bunch of messages in the lounge and you only give us the user. Great, we remove the messages in the lounge - however, because you have been lazy, we don't see that this user has also posted messages at the end of some articles so we don't know that we have to go and clean those up as well. That is why we provide the links, it's not because we enjoy copying and pasting links here.

In our case it was a spam wave where the spammer posted over than 10 posts at a time so should I post 10 links

No, in the very worst case it is enough with a maximum of 8 links. Usually it is enough with 3 links, because the spammers mostly post forum messages and/or QA messages. If you go to the user's profile (before he get nuked) you can copy the link to sections that are not empty (those lists are in the under the profile-image and there are max 7)
With that links it doesn't matter if he had posted 5, 10 or 100 messages. That is a dynamic query of the site to his history. The advantage is, that history remains active and clickable to find the rest of the messages, even if the user is already banned.
EXAMPLE
This user is already banned: http://www.codeproject.com/script/Membership/View.aspx?mid=10144976[^]
This is the list of his answers: http://www.codeproject.com/script/Answers/MemberPosts.aspx?tab=answers&mid=10144976[^]
If the user had posted 100 spam messages, we could still access the list and see how many of them are still alive, and then clean up until it gets to "0 results" (as this example)
That's why we post those extra links.
I hope you can see the usefull aspect of that. It is not a question of "who has it bigger" and you "must" do this or that, you can do whatever you consider appropiate, but if you care about CP and the quality of the site enough to start reporting spam here, then please do it in that way. It is just a question of efficiency and to make it easier for the rest to clean the mess.
