Not one question there, whenever I need to access excel files and interact / automate them I use Microsoft's office Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA's)

Directory.GetFiles on every drive you find (DriveInfo.GetDrives). Construct a FileSystemInfo object from the paths returned and read the file's details (version, internal name, etc.)

Flowchart - approach

I need to develop a flow chart. I have an object that has 3 integers(an identifier, an upper node and a lower node). Would there be a big performance hit or better way than to create an array and arrange my objects in the array in order to process the image. For example:

First, the lower node is ALWAYS bigger than the upper node. Each area can only have two nodes. All the information will be passed to me and is stored in a datatable.

The list I am given has 10 objects. I set up an array with a depth of 10 and a width of 3(1/3 the # of objects). I place the lowest area(highest lower node) in the bottom and middle of the array and iterate the rest up.

Once I get all the objects placed in the array, I can get the real depth and width and call my graphics to draw the objects.

There shouldn't be more than 40 objects at a time, so theoretically, the max array size would be 40x13. The reason I have to make a bigger array is the flow could be a straight line or could branch off like crazy.

Am I way off on this? I am a newbie if it isn't obvious. I have an image of what the flowchart would look like, or, if anybody needs further explanation let me know. Thanks.

It sounds really stupid, but I can't seem to override the Date header in a httpwebrequest. Whenever (and however) I try I keep getting the ArgumentException (This header must be modified using the appropriate property.).

Currently my code looks like this:

DateTime dt = DateTime.Now;
idmReq.Headers.Set(HttpRequestHeader.Date, dt.ToString());

I also tried these:
idmReq.Headers["Date"] = dt.ToString();
idmReq.Headers.Set("Date", dt.ToString());
idmReq.Headers.Add("Date", dt.ToString());

The problem is that I need to set the Date header for our centralized identity management system.

Can someone please help?

AFAIK, the Date (and Host) properties are set by the system and cannot be changed in code.

Searching within datagridview

Hey everyone,

I've got a datagridview linked to an access database with a seach function. It's working well, but with one problem. It only displays the row(s) when you search for the complete User Name. It would be a big time saver if the search would locate any row(s) which contains the txtSearchID, so you would not need to type out the whole user name every time.

At the moment I am using:

Command.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE [User ID] = '" + txtSearchID.Text + "'";<br />
OleDbDataAdapter Adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(Command);<br />
Adapter.Fill(ds);<br />

I'm sure theres a simple answer, just can't quite figure it out.

Any help greatly appreciated

In access try

you will want to use 'LIKE' instead of '='

example...

Command.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE [User ID] LIKE '%" + txtSearchID.Text + "%'";

of course what you really want to do is...

Command.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE [User ID] LIKE '%@1'";
Command.Parameters.Add("@1", OleDbType.Char).Value = txtSearchID.Text;

I think he is using an access database, not Sql Server.

Better than %, he must use *

Command.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM Users WHERE [User ID] LIKE '*" + txtSearchID.Text + "*'";

but use parameters it´s a good choice.

I use % with access and it works fine. What does * do that is better?

Nothing into access it's better, but the "Jet sql" suggest using like with * as wild pattern.

If you use %, the OleDb Provider make the translation for you.

If you try

select * from table where field1 like '%something%'

in the query panel of access you get an empty result.

I have an interesting problem, but have no idea where to start, any help/links etc most welcome

The problem:

I want to create an c# app that any other application (eg, Word, Excel etc ) can print to (so i assume it would be a printer driver?? or printer queue??)

Once the file has been printed to the c# app I will save it out as a file in a specific location (hopefully as postscript).

How do applications like word send a file to a print driver? is it as a postscript file?

Well, you can not write printer app. There is no such thing. But you can write virtual printer driver. Then any application can use your driver to write (send) data to your driver.

You can not use C# to write printer drivers too. Too bad, you need Windows Driver Kit [^].

Hi all,
i have a usercontrol array. In that whatever the control i want to delete am clearing that in delete button, using UserControl[i].Controls.Clear(), itz fine.
and finally..., i want to check everycontrol wether that was in clear mode or visible mode.

How to check?

I dont understand what you are trying to do. Do you want to access a control after you have cleared it? If so then you cant because clearing controls affectively deletes them

If you want something else then please try to explain again

Actually i have a usercontrol with 4buttons(1 DeleteButton), 1 textbox

In my form am creating usercontrol array(more than one usercontrols), After clicking on delete of a perticular user control am clearing that usercontrol from my panel. but
After Clearing the controls not deleting from my panel.just making invisible(i observed in debugging that, in array list it is showing cleared control also)

i want to chcek each and every usercontrol(from array) wether that control was cleared or not.

i hope am clear with my description.
i tried on creating a bool property in my usercontrol, on clicking deletebutton am making false that bool value., while checking am checking that bool value wether true or false. if false it was cleared control.

any other way to achieve this?

Hi ,
i-m looking around to work out a feature im my project but i did not see nothing about that or useful, i need to synchronize Window Media PLayer with a ListBox or better i wish show in a listBox the current song that WMP is playing in real time and when WMP change the song the list box will change in syncronize with WMP .
Do you know any way to work out this feature or have any idea to make me calm down?

Hi,
The idea is to read specific media player registers. to get current played song informations:
In .net you can use the RegistryKey class to have acces to registers:
Note: Reg path from WMP: Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\CurrentMetadata

RegistryKey regData = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\CurrentMetadata", false);
if (regData != null) //you have to do this check, to prevent from a null reference exception
{
string currSongTitle = regData.GetValue("Title", "No Title") as string;

// Check google to see other WMP Keys...
}
