I apologize... I threw that in haste without really thinking it through... this is probably the easiest way to handle any length string...

And it will not, no matter what you do. As others have already pointed out, strings are immutable in .NET which means they cannot be altered once they're created.

Take a look at this example:

string a = "abc";
a = a + "xyz";

You might be thinking that in line 2 the characters "xyz" is appended to the string a, but that is not the case. When line 2 is executed, the Runtime creates a new string that is the result of the concatenation i.e. "abcxyz" and makes the variable a point to the new string. The old "abc" string becomes garbage (since it has no valid reference) and is collected during the next GC cycle.

To make large changes to to strings, it is recommended to use the System.Text.StringBuilder class.

And use your method like this:

string input = "00000000000000000000";
string output = encodeString(input); //output contains "00000-00000-00000-00000"

I think you mean

i < input.Length

Otherwise you're dropping the last character.

Find asp.net listview control in Item Template

Hello Experts,

I would like to ask how will I find the listview control or use the correct event. My goal is that I want to check the listview control text value inside of listview item template after it load the data, then I have a condition to trigger some code depends on what my control text result.

Here is my Code I am not sure why it does not work and it always give me

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Fix it when I almost lost hope trying Big Grin | :-D

when I suddenly copy paste my design of item template to alternating item template of my listview. It seems that the listview databound event is affected by both alternating item template and item template.

I am able to get the value for MeasurementName property, but the UserClinicalDatas always returns null, can someone in here point me out why this is the case? Many thanks.

The property appears to be called 'ClinicalDatas' (not UserClinicalDatas) in the JSON.

Regarding the names, 'data' is already plural, so using 'datas' just looks wrong. If you are in charge of both ends of this serialisation you should change that.

Try a tool for generating your classes from the Json data, e.g. http://json2csharp.com/[^]. That will prevent typos.

C# MySQL Question

Hi All, I have a problem

I have a MySQL Table, one of the columns' Data Type is TinyInt(1)

When I use this line of code it gives an error

int newNumber = int.Parse(string.Format("{0}", reader["someField"]));

I think the reader is reading a bool value

however MySQL Table has row values of 0 & 1 & 6 & 7

so it is not bool true/false type

How can I actually grab that value to store into "int newNumber"

The reader returns type object, and it must be cast to the necessary type for use in function calls.

For the TinyInt type, I forget exactly what you need to cast it to but you can try short.

Try this:

int newNumber = (int)(short)reader["someField"];

The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

I think casting (int)(short) is redundant.

A MySQL TinyInt is 1 byte. That type in C# i, obviously, byte.

BTW, why on earth are you converting the returned database value to a string, only to parse it back to an int??

my friend's db is mysql and I am trying to grab his data and then store the value into my sql db

its a WCF project

so I created a datamember of int newNumber ...

thats why I need to grab it

it looks like it is reading as a bool value

cause if i convert it to a string, it will gives false

since in that column, I have values of 0, 4, 6 ,7
