If you want to do this without SQL Server, you are going to have to write a Windows Service that runs all the time. Inside the service, you need to run a timer which fires periodically. When it fires, you need to check the current time and send your mail message if it's appropriate. Hint: take a look at the MailMessage or SmtpMail class to figure out how to send your message.

If something has to be triggered at a specific time, then you need a mechanism that is running permanently. This was the reason I suggested using the Sql Server job manager in the first place. If this is not possible, you either need to write a Windows Service, or you could write an application that is fired off from the scheduler running under your OS. There is no way to do this automatically from a website - it must be run from the OS (hence a Windows service or the task scheduler).

Just use the normal mouse handler in combination with System.Windows.Forms.Control.ModifierKeys.

When is the PictureBox redrawn?

Hello everyone

I've written a little application to load pictures and display them on a windows form at the same time. What I've done is put a group of PictureBoxes onto a scrollable panel, and let the PictureBoxes draw their contained images.

However, I find it's very unefficient. When I scroll the containing panel up and down, the already drawn PictureBoxes are redrawn again, which is quite undesirable.

So I'm wondering which event causes the PictureBoxes to be redrawn? And when will the event be raised?

Worse still, I even have no idea which one is doing the actual drawing job, the PictureBoxes or the containing panel?

Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!

Not exactly answering your question, but the general advice is to avoid using PictureBoxes, and do your own custom painting directly.

Can any body tell me the advantages and disadvantages of both kinds to get to know if a file is in a specified directory.

I have a directory in the network and a application that should work with the file took into the directory.

I try to do it with a FileSystemWatcher, but the problem is, if the network connection failed, the FileSystemWatcher did'nt react if the network directory is already available.
So i need to reinitialize the FileSystemWatcher in a while again.

But i also heard to poll the file system isn't a good idea because it slows the cpu down.
(Is it more than the FileSystemWatcher? Can anybody suggest (a good loop time for) polling?)

You could create a thread, spins in a loop and reinitializes the FileSystemWatcher from time to time using Thread.Sleep in between. As FileSystemWatcher uses events this would effectively create a mix of polling and signaling.

Yes i already do so, but i think: 'is this mix good?', isn't it better only to poll the file system instead using the file system watcher?

I would think this is ok, and you can decide how often you poll, just don't do it all the time. You may use a flag for poll-only mode which reduces the polling period and disables the FileSystemWatcher, which would make it kind of universal. You could even call the same callback.

Another downside of the FSW is that it can only be used with NTFS filesystems (FAT may be possible as well, don't know 100%). So if you're trying to watch a file on a SMB share you won't get any events.

Why not use a PrintDialog (the WinForms one) instead? With this, you don't have to use P/Invoke for anything.

Hi

Can any one help me to find the current user domain.

I am using the follwing code:

WindowsIdentity wIdentity= WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent();

Its listing only the current system connected domain.

For ex:

I belongs to domain retail, if i log in using my userid and domain("retail") from other machine belongs to other domain, its giving that system domain instead of my domain. Help me please.

FOr ASP.Net the code you have there is correct, if it's giving you the wrong results then you probably don't have impersonation setup correctly.

If it's for something else then check out the System.Environment[^] class.

I am tring to create a series of dynamic tables using c# .net

I can add rows and data to a table already created in my aspx page but as soon as I try and create a new table I get nothing. I know this is down to me not doing something but I can't seem to find out what. Here is my basic code, it is only for one table, but that will be changed once I can display this one:

testTbl.ID = "testTbleID";
TableRow testTblRow = new TableRow();
TableCell testTblCell = new TableCell();
TableRow testTblRow1 = new TableRow();
TableCell testTblCell1 = new TableCell();

testTblCell.Text = "Hello World!!";
testTblRow.Cells.Add(testTblCell);
testTbl.Rows.Add(testTblRow);

testTblCell1.Text = "Hello Again World!!";
testTblRow1.Cells.Add(testTblCell1);

What do I have to do to get the table to write on the page? I know it is created as I can response.write the number of rows in it?

any help would be appreciated, I know it's something simple, it always is!

Thanks for your reply, I can see where you're coming from I think, but I just get the following error?

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Literal' does not allow child controls.

I tried LiteralControl aswell but got the same error?

Is this the only way to do it?

You need to add the table to your page's controls collection.

form1.Controls.Add(testTbl );

'form1' can be the pages Form, or you can use a Panel or PlaceHolder.

howto check a directory periodically

hi everyone!

i do have a consol application which will be changed to a service.
i do want the application to check a folder periodically, if there are (new) files in it. if so, then the application does it's duty, if there is nothing (new) then it does nothing.

i am not sure how to do this. first i thought to do it with an endless loop (e.g. while(true)) but will this terminate without an exception when the service is shotdown?

does anyone of you have an idea?
simply checking for an empty folder won't help, because the folder could be empty for some amount of time. so it has to be something like

  Filelist = Directory.GetFiles(sourcepath, searchpattern);<br />
  if Filelist.Length > 0<br />
  {<br />
    // handle input from file(s) else do nothing<br />

does anyone of you have an idea how to do this?
