Ok, I have inhertied a some code in which I find that the previous developer has done something I do not agree with but..I have to work with what I have got.
There is a typed dataset called QueryDataSet and there is an object called
QueryDataObject that inherits from QueryDataSet. In the development enviorment all is well mbut when I get to my executable, I get the following error:
"The constructor to deseralize an object of type WTI.Fortis.QueryDataObject was not found".
I am thinking that the previous developer was changing the constructor
protected QueryDataSet(SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context) {
that is genereated as a result of me autogenerating the dataset to public.
Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

QueryDataObject must implement ISerializable as well as QueryDataSet (I think). You might be able to get around it by casting QueryDataObject to a QueryDataSet and Deserializing that instead.
I havn't used Serialization that much but I do remember coming across something along the previous lines.

Well the QueryDataset is a type dataset and that does not implement te ISeralizable interface by default and I am pretty positive that casting QueryDataObject to a QueryDataSet maynot by me much, but I am going to try to implement the Iseralizable interface on the QueryDataObject and see what happens.

Sorry I don't know anything at all about BITS (and don't have time at the moment to find out) apart from a general overview of what it does. My suggestion would be to try out the tutorial in the article and see what happens there. If you run into more problems then ask some more questions.

I think mobile software isn't developed with C# but rather modified C++ for Symbian systems. It does have some support to .net platform, but it's somewhat limited. If you want to develop more traditional Java applications, then you're in wrong area.

You think wrong.  Symbion is just ONE of the available platforms.
The .NET Compact Framework is available for Windows Smart Phones and Pocket PCs. A development environment (including emulators you can set breakpoints in etc) are included in Visual Studio Pro (and above). It implements a subset of the .NET Framework, and your basic Pocket PC application will actually run just fine on the desktop as well.
Hence nothing strange in wanting to do C# programming for Mobile Devices - we have done that for years.

Hi everyone.
I'm currently working on a larger system that will incorporate several tools including shell extensions.
The contextmenu works fine for when I rightclick single files. All menuitems show, and InvokeCommand is called to do the work assosiated with the menuitem clicked.
But if I select several files, the contextmenu shows, the submenuitems shows and are selectable, but
nothing happends. I got a debugger in InvokeCommand() so I know it isn't called.
Seems to me that there's some kind of pointer / reference mismatch so that explorer isn't firing my
InvokeCommand method.
If anyone has some experience in contextmenu shell extensions I'd appreciate some feed back.
I'll gladly post some code too if it helps.

Solved it.
I'll post the solution incase anyone else runs into the same problem.
My extension is made up with dynamic contextmenus that vary in size and content according to the
filetype etc. So I had identifier baseIDs like i.e: baseIDTxt 0, baseIDDoc 100, baseIDRtf 200;
These baseIDs are then used when creating/populating the menus so it's easier to locate the correct
commands when InvokeCommand is called. I'd just switch on the baseids:
case baseIDTxt + 0: //menuitem index 0
//do something to txt file
break;
case baseIDTxt + 1: //menuitem index 1
//do something else to txt file
break;
The problem for me was that if I used a baseID larger then 100 for some of my menus, and the InvokeCommand for that specific contextmenu wouldn't show.
So try and keep them below 100 and you should be fine.
I now have a dynamic contextmenu with dynamic number of sumbmenuitems that varies for 4 filecases.
I used four bases i.e: baseX = 0, baseY = 25, baseZ = 75 and baseLast = 100;

Howdy,
I'm having some problems having information delivered between a custom user component and the main form.
In the component I have a combobox to where I want to get information from the main form. I tried using the following expression:

string[] sectionRange = ((Proha)TopLevelControl).giveSections();
ProHa is the Class name. This works, but it says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" for 3 times whenever I try to view the component in the main form's Design view or run the program.
If the above should be instantiated somehow, how can it be done?

I think, if you create your control for the first time, you must also send a reference of the main form to your component.
e.g.
public class MainForm
{
MyComponent myComp = new MyComponent(this);
}
public class MyComponent
{
private MainForm mainForm = null;
public MyComponent(MainForm mainForm)

this.mainForm = mainForm;
}
}

Thanks, that worked, but now the design view has some problems since I had to modify the constructor in my component and now it doesn't seem to match with something else declared in MyComponent.Designer.cs file. I'll try separating the process from the constructor..
