Can't you do the check inside the function that writes to the log?
e.g.

Sadly no, Its a shared resource. The log file is created and then passed in by ref to a couple of other threads that both write to it.
I've don't it the timer way for now, at least that gets the functionaly working.

Hi!
Instead of a high resolution timer checking constantly you could use a simple timer with a 24h interval.
During initialization of your app you setup the timer with an initial interval calculated until midnight.
In the Ticked/Elapsed event you set the interval to 24h and create the new log file.
Should do the trick...

Hi,
I have a problem where I want to shutdown an external win32 software client from my C#/ASP.net application by pressing a button. I understand that I have to use WM_CLOSE somehow but I dont know how to use it in my C# solution.
I use shelling (VBscript) to lanuch external software on my computer:
Example:

...
objShell.run ("""C:\Program Files\Overview\Overview.exe""- u testuser - p testuser
endfunction()
This works great but if the application( in this case overview.exe) is already running I want to be able to shut it down by pressing a button before I lanuch it .

I want to provide Notification facility in my windows application. When some task is assigned to a particular user by the admin, the task should be displayed in the Inbox(Form in the application) to that user real time.(If that User is logged into the application.) How can the user get info regarding new assigned task? Do I need to have a seperate background process for checking the newly added tasks?

There is no need to use a separate thread to look for the updates, as the main thread is mostly just waiting for anything to happen anyway.
Add a timer to the form, and in the Tick event look for updates.

But if I do not use another thread, the other task performed by the user will be affected.
Any other way to check the updates than the timer?

Hi, I found a problem during Infpath Project development in VS 2005.
I've created a new project in VS 2005 (Office -> Infopath form), this project is a simple Infopath Form wich will recieve and submit some data to my web-service.
First of all I should notice that I didn't created any DataSource in design-time from Infopath Forms Designer, instead I am making all calls to web-service methods and filling Infopath forms controls from C# code-behind file.
Then I wrote some C# code in generated Form's code-behind file, also I've added a WebReference to my web-service and wrote code for web service methods calls and Infopath controls filling.
When I starting my project from VS (F5 or Ctrl + F5) everything works fine and I see the controls on my Infopath form are filled with data from web service.
The problem occurs when I am making Project - Publish Form, the published form (xsn file) contains all dll and other necessary files, but when I runnig published form all controls are empty! It seems like my C# code doesn't executed and no exception or error messages does not appear.
Does enybody knows what happens? I suppose that I should change my security configuration setting in .NET Framework configuration, is that correct?

I've found solution!
To execute C# code with Web Reference to web-service you must digitally sign your Infopath form. It can be done through
Tools -> Form Options - Security:
1. Uncheck Automatically... and select full trust
2. Check sign and create certificate
3. Publish the form
or you should create a msi project to install your Infopath form.

I think you're going to have to Google this one yourself. You might even end up coding it yourself too. I don't think you're going to find a "wrapped box" solution you can just "plugin" to your code.

I think he wants to know how he can encrypt the exe file and then automatically decrypt it after a click and start the programm.
Well I don't know how to encrypt/decrypt but I know how you can compile it to native code (look for .Net Reactor).

You can't encrypt an .EXE and have it decrpyt itself when launched. If you encrypt the entire .EXE, it's no longer a valid image and won't launch. You have to have some kind of wrapper around the .EXE, kind of like how WinZip wraps a .ZIP file with a self-extractor module. This wrapper code would have to decrypt the wrapped .EXE into memory, essentially replacing the Loader built into Windows (Good Luck with that!). Decrpyting the .EXE to a file and launching that would render your protection useless in about 5 seconds while the user quickly copies the new .EXE file to another location!
While on the surface this sounds like a good idea, it's also your protection scheme's achilles heel. There nothing you can do to stop someone from using your own security wrapper to decode the .EXE, save it to a file, and then just use and distribute the decrypted version.
In every copy protection scheme so far, the protection scheme can be defeated simply because of it's own existance! Every protection scheme gives itself away because it has to run in a machine where anyone can attach a debugger to it and watch it run to see what it's doing. With the information gleened from the debugger, it's simply a short matter of time before the protection is defeated. Usually using the protection code against itself to "delivery the goods".

Hi, I have a small dos program that compiles txt files. The dos program checks the text file, and if there's an error or if the text is ok it sends a message to the dos prompt. I would like to capture this message and display it in a textbox. I have already tried with the code below, but i don't get the output from the text compler program, but I do get some DOS output like the path the program is in etc. Does anybody know how to solve this problem????
