Thanks for the info.

I'm also looking at Karl Runmo's article http://www.codeproject.com/cpp/krhtmlviewer.asp which renders tables too.

Hello...

To simulate a click or keyboard typing you can use SendMessage to send a spefied message to the window...

In a relational database, I would to like to know the performance difference between of using a string and an integer as the primary key field for the tabl;e. Will a column field of integer be indexed faster than a string column field ?

General rule use smallest datatype as you need
smallest will run faster

Hi!
When I try to send udp-packets broadcasted in my local LAN by this code:

Socket s = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Dgram, ProtocolType.Udp);<br />
s.SendTo(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("Some text to send"), new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse("192.168.0.255"), 11000));<br />

And do the receive with this:

IPEndPoint EP = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 11000);<br />
byte[] buffer = client.Receive(ref EP);<br />

I always get two messages received! My explanation for this is, that udp is connectionless and by broadcasting it it's returned by some other device - I don't know.. Can you explain it to me and give a tip how to avoid it?

System.Windows.Forms.ListBox .net 2.0 problem

Hi,

Is it just me or does the ListBox class in .net 2.0 exhibit some odd behaviour?

For instance, when I use the mouse wheel to scroll it seems to do some weird redraw-from-the-top update method.

Also, it flickers like crazy when resizing. I've tried enabling the double buffering mode to no avail. I have overridden it to draw icons next to the text which works fine, but it seems to clear the entire background, not just the dirty area, every time.

As a sanity check I then placed a stock ListBox control on a new form to see if it works in its standard mode but it exhibited the same symptoms. The odd thing is it doesn't do this with .net 1.1. Confused | :confused:

Does anyone else suffer from this or know of a solution?

im using MS access database to keep my data and using visual studio .net 2003 to design forms...

i want to know how to retrieve data from access to my forms in visual studio .net.. what codes must i write in visual studio .net or must i use some access wizard to do what i want?

if you have to get many data when you start your appliactio use splash screen to connect and get the data
and when the you got the data show the form that deal with data
But general rule try to separate the code that access and manipulate the database and put it in dll and call it from your win forms

Its more of a preference for the programmer but security-wise and readability i agree it has to be put in a different form. I usualy do my queries in a different form, pass it to another dll for sorting, editing, etc then finally pass it to my win app or web app.

What do you mean? If you get that type as argument myType it does exist Confused | :confused:

If you mean something like System.Activator.CreateInstance("MyType",...); then it throws exception as described in MSDN[^]

You can use Assembly.GetType Method (String)[^] to determine if type is in assembly, it returns null if type wasn't found.

i was using the old system.web.mail classes.
and try to sent emails with net.mail, but i get an exception:

System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException was unhandled by user code
Message="Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for bla@bla.bla"

host property of SmtpClient must be set up! but what is default smpt host? is it "localhost"? i get an exception if i use it.

if i use this code it work for me (System.Web.Mail):

SmtpMail.SmtpServer = null;

SmtpMail.Send(mail);

because the name of the local SMTP server is used!!!!!!

WHAT NAME IS IT? how can i find it out?
i need the name to set the property Host of SmtpClient (System.Net.Mail).

You have to specify SMTP-server, which you will use for sending mail...
I did following:
myClient = new SmtpClient(serverName, Convert.ToInt32(serverPort));
where serverName is IP-adress of SMTP-server.

You may use IPAddress or the Dns Name of the server also. But the quicker trick would be CDOSys can be configured to relay to the local server and have the local server relay to a SmartHost in the network, which would do all relay, authorization checks etc to send the mail.

That way, our application is freed up from using a slow costly network communication resource through its process.
