Does anyone know how to obtain the GUID for say a version of Excel 2003 ?
I'm building a deployment project and under my launch condition, I need to know if Excel 2003 is there. But as to date, I don't have any luck..
So, perhaps someone can shed me somelight where in the registry should i be looking at...

Hi guys. Listen, I've got a problem:
I'm building this email server/client for a school project. I've done pretty much everything, but I've stumbled upon something. So far, I've been testing my application on localhost, so everything worked just fine, but now I've got
problems when trying to send email to an actual email address. Say it's 'abcd@yahoo.com'.
When I click Send, my program crashes. I thought that it was because I was supposed to send to the MX server, not directly to the Yahoo server, so I changed the address to 'abcd@mx1.mail.yahoo.com'. It worked ok until the RCPT TO command, at which point Yahoo's SMTP server says that the address is bad.
So in a nutshell, the problem is this: "How do you actually send email?"
What am I to do? How can I crack this? Can you suggest an alternating route?
Thanx a million.

Use your school's smtp host to send your mail through. It should work if your protocol is set up correctly...

IIRC, Yahoo's SMTP server uses ESMTP, which requires some kind of authentication.

I have winform control where updating one property must cause another to be updated. How do I cause the propertygrid to update the associated value?

The answer (for my purposes):
RefreshPropertiesAttribute(RefreshProperties.Repaint)

Hi, i'm trying to make my program open mp3 files and play them in a program like winamp or realplayer. Could somebody help me? How can I implement it?
thanks a lot.

Try using the System.Diagnostics.Process namespace it contains procedures for launching external applications.
|
|
|
|
|
You should better be away from filewise operations for that. Just use some external APIs for the application you want to run (winamp, rp etc.) and use it in your application feeding the desired parameters.

Hello! I have a report in which i've added some columns from two tables of my database. I want to put a condition (for example to display the employees from only one departement). Can i put something like:
SELECT a.name from employees a, departments b WHERE a.id=b.id and b.dep_name="marketing".?
And where do i put that?
And something else: if i introduce the name of the departement in a textbox, can i transmite it to the crystal report? So that in the select statement i put b.dep_name='"+textfromtextbox+"'.
Thanks!

If I give special characters in regular exp. Its not working like:
<td><font\scolor=#FF0000>(\w*)</font></td>
The # will create problems, any idea how to do that.
I am using javascript.

I believe you need to put a \ in front of your special character. Do a quick replace of any reserved characters to make sure they get the \.

I wrote a tool to upload file to web, but it didnt work with Unicode file. Now I think out a solution to solve that problem is: I will package a folder into a file and then I can upload it. Can we do that with C#? If yes, how can I package a folder into a file?
Who can show me how to do that?
Thank you in-advanced!

The only way to do that is to ZIP up the files in the folder. You can then upload the .ZIP file and have the server side unpack it, if need be. But, a better solution would probably be to fix your code that is doing the uploading.
What are you using (on both the client and server end) to handle file uploads?
If your upload code didn't work with a UniCode file, what do you think is going to happen when your try to upload binary files?
BTW, if your using ASP.NET, your question really belongs in the ASP.NET Forum, regardless of the language you wrote it in.

I found it in the ASP.NET forum. Thanks!

Hi. I need to get the DataTable that is the datasource of a datagrid. I try this:
DataTable t = (DataTable)dataGrid1.DataSource
but t has null value. How can I get that value?

Well, I found it. I had this line:
if !Page.IsPostBack and the grid was empty when the method was called.

Next time, be more specific about your question and the environment it's running in. You asked an ASP.NET question, which wasn't obvious in your first post but became bloody obvious with your second post. This question really belonged in the ASP.NET Forum.

I need an IDE, apart from VS .NET. (Not just a Code Editor)
Which would be good IDE for developing .NET applications?
It should also have intrinsic (compile and run from within the IDE) C#, ASP.NET, C++, Java, JSP. Anything else would be a plus.
|
|
|
|
|
Including all of that is very difficult. AFAIK, there is no IDE which contains C#, ASP.NET, C++, Java and JSP per default.
Must IDEs, however, can be extended by plug-ins.
I suggest you look into Eclipse (eclipse.org), which can be set up to provide support for nearly every programming language, if there is a plug-in available.
For C# I would recommend SharpDevelop (www.icsharpcode.com or .net or something like that).
Both are OpenSource and as such, can be downloaded for free.
Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
There is X-Develop of course.
It has a 20-day trial version. But I don't want to buy it. So I am looking for something similar.

You have borland IDE also for C#, but the cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...............
Borland always beats MS, in price also.

Yes, Borland C# Builder.
Can u tell me this :
I compile a project from C# Buider and it gives me the required output on the command line console. However, the console window terminates immediately on completion of the output.
What do I have to do, to make it visible until I give the exit command ? An option is writing the line:
Console.Readline ();
at the end of the program. But I want to know, if this can be done NON-programmaticaly; i.e. by adjusting the IDE itself - Project / Run / Tools -menus, etc.
Best regards,
