Sure. You can descend a class from Control, and add a textbox, button, and listview to it.

what is the sample code for that...?

Evidently, Uwe believes your question pertains to adding the textbox and button to a subcomponent. My interpretation of your question is that you want to add a textbox and button to an exterior region. To do so, you would probably want to derive a root or base layer from Control or UserControl, and add your ListView, TextBox and Button to that.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a practical way to do that. The Task Bar reads the icon from the executable -- you don't have an obvious opportunity to pass an alternate icon to system processes managing the Task Bar.

That's also my conclusion, but there's absolutely no way to do that?
No hack or tricky tricks?

I know I've seen an example of how to draw a rectangle on the desktop in response to mouse drag events, but I can't recall where. It's been a while. You should be able to dig up an example.

kubben, there's nothing about the tray in what i want to do.
I just want to have different icon in my titlebar and taskbar.

what would this be good for?

I want to do that because my application is for win2000 only and my icon is white with transparent background. On the blue title bar the look is good (white over blue) but in the task bar its white over gray so we almost do not see it.

I am pretty sure whatever your form Icon is set to, that is the same icon on the taskbar. For some reason I thought you wanted a different icon in the tray.
Sorry,
Ben

I have a serial port class that I use to read an incoming unregulated stream that can be as large as 720K. I use a while loop comparing the .BytesToRead against the saved value from the previous compare. I have used this method without issue for nearly a year.
All of a sudden, I am finding that the value returned from .BytesToRead appear to be limited to 16 bits (short) as the return goes to 0 and continues.
So it appears that the int becomes uint16. I have tested this on three computers and intermittently get different results (XP Pro, Server 2003, XP Media).
Does anyone know of this problem?
Thanks,

Hi,
How can i find out how many pages there are to print?, since there isnt a property in the PrintPreviewControl for it, but when you create the PrintPreviewControl, a small dialog pops up and counts through the pages which you can preview, thus i presume you must be able to access that event/method some how.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Gareth.

the box is like "trackBar".. it shows you the progres of painting content to the paper.. in your PrintPage event of printDocument object use some int as a counter.. set it to 0 in BeginPaint event
life is study!!!

Seishin#: The PrintPage event is fired when your actually printing the data, i want to know BEFORE i print it, so i can display to the user the number of pages. eg Page 1 of 20.

Gareth.

nope.. don't confuse PrintPage event with Print method..
when you handle PrintPage event you implement the actual look of the page as it will be printed when you call Print method.. PrintPage event is fired for each page that will be printed and thats why you can put in it some pageCounter++ line to count pages..
when you open print preview it is generated with PrintPage event.
life is study!!!

Seishin#: Sorry, you were correct. The reason i was getting confused was i had some debugging in the PrintPage event which wasnt been displayed when the preview control was being created. Thus i thought the event wasnt the place i should be looking into.
Cheers,
Gareth.

Hi all,
It seems the search function is down, so sorry if this kind of (beginner) question has come by too often.
I used the xsd.exe tool to convert an xml file provided from a 3rd party to xsd format, and then to classes as follows:
<br />
xsd.exe thefile.xml<br />
xsd.exe /c thefile.xsd
I imported the resulting .cs file into my project, which now defines the classes I need for the data. The "top" class derives from DataSet and is called NewDataSet.
Now for the questions: How do I import (deserialize) the actual data contained in thefile.xml into my NewDataSet class? I've tried the following, which doesn't work...
NewDataSet dataSet = new NewDataSet();
dataSet.ReadXmlSchema(@"thefile.xml");
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Standards are great! Everybody should have one!
