Yes, but not if you're just going to throw it away in the next line.

I am trying to install SQL SErver 2008 Express on WIndows Server 2008 64-bit. Installation was successfull and i am able to use the sql sever on the server with no issuie but when connecting from another machine using the above connection string I get this error though I enabled the TCP/IP and Name Pipes and the login method is Mixed and Firewall is accepting 1433 port:!

Hello!
I'd like to create little system for mobile phones which can recognize speech. There are two ways to do it, first is to have speech recognition on mobile phone (however I've got difficulties with using PocketSphinx, if you'd like me to, I can explain what exactly), the other is to have speech recognition on server and just have mobile phone connecting to that server with the use of Skype. The communication between devices and applications would be as follows: Skype on mobile phone calls Skype on server -> Skype on server redirects the speech (with the use of server application) to speech recognition engine Sphinx4 -> Sphinx4 recognizes the speech and answers to Skype (do I need to do it through the server application?). Recently I've been working on creating acoustic model for Sphinx4.
I have already found some good code which I can use in my application: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=260361&st=0&p=1158301&#entry1158301 . However I don't have the experience in writing server applications. (I've got some experience in C++, Free Pascal and Visual Basic but I'm rather newbie in C#). Can you suggest me how to begin with writing this server application? I would appreciate it if you can give me some useful materials to read, tutorials or advices.
Greetings!

Hi folks...
hope someone can help. I created a simple UserControl in a C# Project (VS9) that basically consists of a Label placed on that Usercontrol.
The following happens:
1) place the Usercontrol "Label" via designer on another UserControl "Parent"
2) change the Fontsize of "Label" to another value (e.g. from 9,25 to 14,75)
3) see the "Label" Control is relocated from original position to a new position on "Parent".
It seems to me that the control is relocated due to some scaling issues but I can't figure out what exactly is the problem. I am sure it is no big thing, I need the Usercontrol "Label" to stay in place instead of beeing relocated automatically in design view. Any ideas?

Check out the "Anchor" property.

I already did. Does not change behaviour.
I also have set "Autoscalemode" to none everywhere I could find it... still same behaviour. Running out of options...
Another funny thing is that the relocation of the "Label" usercontrol is done only once (according to the size I enter, the Location of the usercontrol "Label" will be set more down and right on screen if the Fontsize is larger). After it is done I can change fontsizes just as I want (even 100f)... the "Label" Usercontrol will no more be relocated by designer.
So this behaviour just shows if placing a new "Label" usercontrol on the "Parent" usercontrol and then changing the fontsize of the "Label" uctl. Strange in deed.

I have 1K tag. I have data of 1433 byte to be stored in the tag. Can any body help me for some compression technique to compress the number of bytes for the same information.
Thank You

It depends on your data. What is your data? More importantly, what is the entropy of your data?

Fortunately I know what it is, does that mean I'm allowed to use it?

If you can use entropy, please do so, the world would be much better of with an entropy reduction.

A hardware engineer I used to work with suggested a data compression technique that "removed all the zero bits, as they don't mean anything anyway". I wish it would have worked...

Good one
He (she?) should have a chat with jules Gilbert (you know, the persistent "magic compression" guy who refuses to ever let his technique be put to the test) on comp.compression

Ok, that's a very ineffective way (Deflate is not bad, but the implementation doesn't compress that much at all)
If you want better results, you can look at SharpZipLib[^]

my data is actually a form. I am storing the form data on the Tag. My plan is to make the array of bytes then I will move to store the bytes on the rftags. Have you any idea of value initialize, increment or decrement.

It doesn't really matter what it represents, it matters how it represents it.
J imran wrote: Have you any idea of value initialize, increment or decrement.
I'm not sure what you mean.
In any case, could you show the data that you're planning to store? You can change it a bit if it's confidential, but make sure you don't substantially change the statistical properties of the data.

ok , I am working for it. I want to find if there is some way to store a character in less than a byte.
Thank You.

You could try:
- not storing it (could be possible, depends on circumstances)
- using only 7bits per char (lean ASCII)
- using Huffman codes (predefined Huffman tree I would say, if possible)
- range coding (hard and not much better than Huffman codes)
- other, if you tell me more about the strings that you want to store I can think of more possibilities
edit: - put all strings that could be used for that variable in an array and store only the index (works very good if you have few possibilities) (trivial really, just mentioning it for completeness)

It also depends on your system design. If you're storing information that doesn't change and doesn't leave the premises, then you can easily store this information in a database and just store an ID number in the tab that can be used to look this information up in the database.
