Thank you for all of your help.
Yes I was thinking the ToString was a bit ott on my part in some places.
Good point on the N>=10 issue - you have written the code for me without me even having to say 'plz help meez'

I am in no way being sarcastic-- I would not recommend speech recognition as a school project. It is a highly complex field that is still very much in its infancy.

Read about Speech SDK.

As d@nish mentions find out about Speech SDK - you will find articles on cp.
I have written a speech recognition application for flight simulation pilots - Clickety - which may give you some idea of what can be accomplished.
In so far as you mention speech recognition - in itself it is fairly straightforward due to the Microsoft SDK.
What is really going to make your project shine is what you wrap around this speech recognition.
I probably spent in the region of 100 times longer coding the interface around the speech recognition than I took getting the Speech SDK integrated and working.
So good luck and my suggestion is think bigger than just speech recognition as this part is already written for you by Microsoft.

Use Windows speech library i.e speech.dll,available in windows/system32/speech/speech.dll,
In the visual studio(speaking about in 2008) use "add a reference" in the solution explorer and browse the above discussed .dll file and import it to your project.
Double click on the imported reference and the methods and members in the reference will be viewed in object browser,,,,,.search for recognition methods and use as required by u in the project......

I was given the task to write a program (c#) to import the 100k rows per dbf to SQL Server. I am happy that they decided to do so but at the same time I have to do it :p . So here it goes:
Before I write code (just testing out)
1. I tried using the import from method from ssms it worked once then failed.
2. I went to the business intelligence studio option and that ended in tears.
3. I then exported from FoxPro to flat txt/excel then I was hit with indexes cdx.
Is there any suggestion on how to do it? Not requesting for code.
Thank you

The fastest way to get the data from a FoxPro table into SQL is by using SSMS. It is best to create your own package to run rather than using the default Import functionality, if for no other reason than you can have a permanent copy of the code.
In my experience you must always pre-process the foxpro data into a staging table (still in foxpro). The most common pre-processing task is to sort out dates as Foxpro handles a far wider range of dates to SQL. The other major concern is that foxpro has three data 'states'. These are Populated, Empty, and Null. SQL only has two (Populated and Null). Again dates are the worst culprit. Empty dates should be either SQL Null or the earliest SQL date (1/1/1900 for shortDateTime and 1/1/1753 for DateTime).

Not sure how you can do that. You would need to elevate the rights of the user under which your application runs and then again remove that once the run is over.
Although, you can show that UserAccount control dialog (the one with cancel and allow options). You can achieve this by using a manifest file. Add the following entry into your manifest file and it should work:
< requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false" />

This seems more like a demand than a request for assistance and is very rude.

The user decides what should be run as administrator, not the application.

Think about what you are asking: would it not defeat the purpose of having Administrator / User priviledges in the first place?

Hi,
I'm just beginning work on an assembly which, amongst other things, will perform some transformations and other operations on objects passed from COM. I've created a stub assembly to receive these objects to see what they look like in the debugger. However, because they're passed as "Object" I am not able to see any of their methods or properties.
Can someone advise me on how I can get a view of the methods and properties of these objects so that I can better understand what I'm dealing with?
All help and advice will be warmly received.
Kind Regards,
Dave

You can use oleview.exe to explore COM types registered on your computer. I assume that you know at least name of the COM type that is passed to your assembly. Use the name to look for the type inside oleview.exe.

Hi Experts,
I'd like to enable my MyPanel:System.Windows.Forms.Panel to
- scroll vertically on mouse wheel move
- scroll horizontally on [Shift] + mouse wheel move and
- zoom on [Ctrl] + mouse wheel move
Scrolling vertically is Panel's built-in functionality. It's enough to use
base.OnMouseWheel(e); for that purpose.
To achieve horizontal scrolling I tried this one:
protected override void OnMouseWheel(MouseEventArgs e)
{
if ((Control.ModifierKeys & Keys.Shift) == Keys.Shift)
{
m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator += e.Delta;
int iHorizontalPosition = 0;
while (
m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator < -m_iMouseWheelDeltaThreshold
|| m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator > m_iMouseWheelDeltaThreshold
)
{
iHorizontalPosition = HorizontalScroll.Value;
if (m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator < 0)
{
iHorizontalPosition -= m_iMouseWheelDeltaThreshold;
m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator += m_iMouseWheelDeltaThreshold;
}
else if (m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator > 0)
{
iHorizontalPosition += m_iMouseWheelDeltaThreshold;
m_iMouseWheelDeltaAccumulator -= m_iMouseWheelDeltaThreshold;
}
if (iHorizontalPosition < HorizontalScroll.Minimum)
iHorizontalPosition = HorizontalScroll.Minimum;
else if (iHorizontalPosition > HorizontalScroll.Maximum)
iHorizontalPosition = HorizontalScroll.Maximum;
}
HorizontalScroll.Value = iHorizontalPosition;
}
}
And it does work.
Nearly.
But there are two unexpected points:
- The movement of content and scroll bars differs.
- The panel doesn't scroll the same distance every time I scroll one mouse wheel step. The distance gets bigger at first. Then, after ten or so steps, it gets smaller for the same amount of steps. And then it gets bigger again. The scrolling distance seems to oscillate (without the negative alternation).
How do I achieve a "normal" behaviour, like in OpenOfficeOrg, for example?

I didn't understand your complete code but maybe thats the problem:
while (condition)
{
iHorizontalPosition = HorizontalScroll.Value;
...
}
HorizontalScroll.Value = iHorizontalPosition;
Maybe you meant:
while (condition)
{
iHorizontalPosition = HorizontalScroll.Value;
...
HorizontalScroll.Value = iHorizontalPosition;
}
Because you recalulate iHorizontalPosition every while iteration but you also overwrites it in the next iteration.

Hello Covean,
this is indeed a mistake.
Both assignments should be either within or outside of the loop, not one inside and the other one outside.
But unfortunately, that doesn't solve my problem (see my first answer to the original post).
