Hi,
I have the code to programmatically convert slides in powerpoint to images and save in local machine. But this is using the below code that uses the office dll.
using Microsoft.Office.Core;
using Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint;
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
var app = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.Application();
var pres = app.Presentations;
var file = pres.Open(@"C:\test\test.pptx", MsoTriState.msoTrue, MsoTriState.msoTrue, MsoTriState.msoFalse);
file.Export(@"C:\testNew.png", "PNG");
}
}
I want to do the same without using office dll as the server where i am going to host it does not have office. (My machine has office). Please help
Regards,
Sarah

Unfortunately Sarah, without using Office you are either going to have to use a specialist 3rd party component, or write one of your own. For the ROI, I'd suggest you should look at Aspose components.

We use Aspose stuff on the project I'm on at the minute. I'm not sure what the license fee is (the client had already bought it) but it seems to be quite effective.

One option to try would be to include a local copy of the reference DLL when deploying to the server. In your project's references, open the properties for the Microsoft Office reference(s). You can set the "Copy Local" value to true. It will copy the assembly to the project's 'bin' path and use that when you deploy it to the server.
I've done similar with MySQL assemblies. However, I'm not sure if this is going to work for Office.

I believe this will copy only the Interop files. The actual COM DLLs that get the job done should still be identified, copied and registered separately.
That's why I wasn't sure if it would all play well together, or just bring those.

It won't work for Office - all that will do is copy the PIA across. As these are talking to honking great COM objects, these will need to be installed as well.

Microsoft uses OpenXML format (or so they say) so don't technically need Office to open/read the file.

As the others have said, there's no easy way to do this yet (At least none that I've heard of)...
You MIGHT be able to hack something together yourself, though. The Java POI library is, I believe, capable of converting PPTs to images (But not PPTX), so you could take their code, build your own translator from the PPTX format, and tie them together... It would require interfacing with Java as the NPOI project hasn't, to my knowledge, incorporated PowerPoint functionality yet.
If that's too difficult, you might just have to bite the bullet and install Office on the server.

Hi, how can I get from server computer client computers Hardware and Software datas, I want to give IP Adress as parameter and get all datas! Thanks!!!
Sorry?
You can't just ask the server "what hardware and software have the PCs you are connected to got?" - it just doesn't work like that.
What are you trying to achieve, that you think you need this?
Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together.

I need to create application that will run in server, and can get all client computers datas, to find out changes on them ! computers physically are not hosted in same place. Thanks for answering me.

Build a widget that resides on the client and can be called from the server.
The widget needs to inspect the registry for all installed software and then inspect the hard disk(s) for .exe files that do not have registry entries.

Sounds like you need to be investigating WMI there big fella!

hello guys... I hope im not putting the question in wrong platform. While designing the report, I show money on one text block while the country currency on other. Now when the project runs, they are shown very distant from each other. For example, it shows something like this
$ 15000
While I want the output
$ 15000
I tried to fix it on design time but it messes the things up. So how can I make this GUI better ? Can this be fixed programatically at run time. thnx

I believe you can insert a Label field and put both these fields inside the Label with a space in between. Have done this long ago, but don't know if CR still supports this.
Just tried your solution but can not find the Label you are refering to. I looked into the Choose Items as well.
Do you find anything in the Toolbox like a Text field?
Yes, it is there and available to use.
Then place a text field and drag-n-drop your currency field and the amount field inside the text field. Right align the text field.
You need to fixed it up in Design time only... Try to do the resize of box where u put the $ and then try to check it out... I face such a Issue but After Doing Proper Design you will get the Desired output
