If you're using .NET 2.0, take a look at Click Once deployment.
Using this, you 'publish' your application to a website. Your users download the application from the website, and from that point forward when they run the application it automatically checks if there is a new version of itself available and fetches it if need be.
There's very little you need to do to get this to work, and works well in an Intranet environment.

Thank you very much Rob,
Its very much helpful for me. Is it possible to install the downloaded application in a quite mode. Using command line arguement "/q" we can install the application in a quite mode when we are installing the msi r exe file from the command prompt or from any other .Net application using the Process.Start with the arguement "/Q". Is it possible to do in the same way in the ClickOnce deployment.
Is it possible to get the values an do some processing like, checking the Licencse key and getting the email id or pin from the user or client.
Please reply me.

In the validation summary control, it display the errors as lists.. with maybe a message like: Error: registration not successful . How do I disable that the error list don't show, I only want the Error message to show.
I thought of taking out the validation summary control and putting in a label control, that displays this message. I set it to visible="false" . I'm assuming this must be set to visible="true" on the client side? How do I do this? How do I "link" this label so that when there is an error it will trigger the label to show?
Thanks.

Every DHCP network has a DHCP server, and every DHCP server has a lease table. Every DHCP Lease table has a correlation of Mac to IP. I want to be able to access the information in the DHCP Lease Table without shutting down services. The Microsoft DHCP management console can do this, and the W2K3 admin pack (installed on a client computer) allows this to happen from a remote computer, so I know it can be done. Not all DHCP servers are Windows machines, some are Routers, some are Linux, etc. So is there a way of accessing the information in the Lease table regardless if it is on a Windows server, router, etc.? Could perhaps output the information to a .csv file in a temp folder for input/review for our program.

Can you determin the filesize of files that are opened by another application?
(You can by using File.Open(path, FileMode.Open).Length, but the open will fail if the file is in use)
I need to check the total size of files in a certain directory, if it reaches a certain treshhold I need to delete them (kill the process, delete the files, restart the process)
tnx a lot.
No hurries, no worries.

Use Directory.GetFiles to get the names of the files, then create a FileInfo for each file to get the file size.

Hi
I use Windows-XP/Embedded and I want to shut down my application properly if the user presses the Power-Button.
The system is powered by an ATX power supply.
I used the following code to test it:
<br />
using Microsoft.Win32;<br />
<br />
...<br />
SystemEvents.PowerModeChanged +=new PowerModeChangedEventHandler(SystemEvents_PowerModeChanged);<br />
...<br />
<br />
private void SystemEvents_PowerModeChanged(object sender, PowerModeChangedEventArgs e) <br />
{<br />
System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show("Power Off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!");<br />
}
Unfortunately the message never appears if I click the main button.
The only thing that happens is that the top most form/dialog is closed.
Is here anything wrong or are there better solutions?
Thanks and best regards,
Martin

Such amazing...
Here is a Class
[Serializable]<br />
public class S1<br />
{<br />
private object _value = new Unit () ;<br />
public object TheValue { get { return _value ; } set { _value = value ; } }<br />
}
If i try to serialize it using XmlSerializer:
XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(S1));<br />
xs.Serialize(new MemoryStream() , new S1());
Exception occurs as following:
System.InvalidOperationException: The type System.Web.UI.WebControls.Unit was not expected. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically.
Here is S2:
[Serializable]<br />
public class S2<br />
{<br />
private Unit_value = new Unit () ;<br />
public Unit TheValue { get { return _value ; } set { _value = value ; } }<br />
}
It works fine.
Here is S3:
[Serializable]<br />
public class S2<br />
{<br />
private object_value = new Guid () ;<br />
public object TheValue { get { return _value ; } set { _value = value ; } }<br />
}
It works fine too.
Any ideas?

It's because Unit isn't a system class and isn't defined in your class layout
Just add the XmlInclude attribute to the class:
[Serializable]<br />
[XmlInclude(typeof(Unit))]<br />
public class S1<br />
{<br />
private object _value = new Unit () ;<br />
public object TheValue { get { return _value ; } set { _value = value ; } }<br />
}

Hi,
You may have misunderstood the purpose of this forum. We take people's programming problems and we help the to resolve coding issues.
Seeing as you have posted neither code, nor an actual problem you are facing, there is little technical answer that can be given.

Go to Google[^] and look for the links to the SDK's for their products. Also post this on their own forums since you'll not get an answer in this one.

I have been wondering how to implement "class inheritance" so you can write code that looks something like program below. I want to make a class object like "player" with array index, then call to "Card" property which I want to have array indexed as well, and also inherits GetSuit() and GetValue() functions.
The two classes below are just something to start with. Because Im new to this kind of structure, can anyone point out what technology is used, give some examples or information on how to get them. Thanks
namespace ConsoleDebugger
{
class Program
{
static public Player[] player = new Player[2];
static public Deck deck = new Deck();
static void Main(string[] args)
{
player[0].Cards[0].GetSuit();
player[0].GrabCard( deck.DealNext() );
}
}
}
These two here below dont make much sens, just something to start with...
public class Player
{
public void GrabCard(int SomeCard)
{
}
public int Hand
{
}
}
public class Card
{
private int[] yourCards = new int[2];
public int this[int index]
{
get { return yourCards[index]; }
set { yourCards[index] = value; }
}
public int GetValue()
{
}
public int GetSuit()
{
}
}
|
|
|
|
|
Starting at your top level
static public Player[] player = new Player[2];
This line is fine, it declares an array of Player objects, but importantly does NOT instantiate any Player instances.
player[0].Cards[0].GetSuit();
This line is fine, in principle, however note the above comment about no Players having been instantiated. This line would cause a null reference exception even if Player had been defined correctly.
so lets add this instead (purposly missing out unimportant stuff):
static public Player[] players = new Player[2];
static void Main(string[] args)
{
players[0] = new PLayer("Jim");
players[1] = new Player("Bob");
int suit = players[0].Cards[0].GetSuit();
}
This now looks better as players[0] & players[1] are instantiated with new Player instances. Breaking the final line down:
int suit = - your GetSuit() method returned an integer, so I am capturing that return. You may wish to consider using an Enum for Suit, but this is a personal preference
players[0] - this will work as-is because players is an array which already has a numeric indexer
Cards[0] - your Player object will need a property named Cards, which must return an object which has a numeric indexer (much like an array). often collections are used for this purpose. The return value of this indexer must be an object that exposes a method named GetSuit().
here is a quick demo of how this is possible:
public class Player
{
private string name;
private CardCollection cards;
public Player(string name)
{
this.name = name;
this.cards = new CardCollection();
}
public CardCollection Cards
{
get{ return this.cards; }
}
}
public class CardCollection : CollectionBase
{
... implementation of BaseCollection
public Card this[int index]
{
get{ return InnerList[index] }
}
}
public class Card
{
private int suit;
... implementation of card
public int GetSuit()
{
return this.suit;
}
}
|
|
|
|
|
Thanks for a quick and good response. I could'nt get "GetSuit()" to connect to the CardCollection object but this is a good start.
Thanks mate
