Well good luck with that then. We'll see you in 20 years when you've finished coding it. Oh wait, MS will have moved on by then.

20 years?? You're assuming he'd ever get v1.0 released!
At least it'll be entertaining to watch. We can all recline in our lounges and watch the little lunatic bound off up the hill, into the sunset, yelling "Charge!" at the top of lungs.

For some reason, I just had to vote your post as Spam. It was an uncontrollable, involuntary response to the daft insanity of your "idea" as I spit my Coke all over my monitors.

Why do exactly the same, there must be some opportunity to do better...

please let me know best ways for multi-user application, in simple way, we shared a folder on server pc and link to it in application, but in this case, all clients could visit files and copy them!

That's kind of vague, don't you think? Do you want multiple people running the app from the same network share, or do you want multiple people running your app hitting the same database? SQL Server or Access?

Of course, that's what a file share is for!

multiple people running app from their pc that linked to network and work with one database in server shared folder.

This means that you'd be using an Access database, which is file based. You have absolutely no choice but to put the .MDB file in a network shared folder, and giving the users Read and Write permissions to the share and the folder. No choice what-so-ever.
The only way to do it so you don't need a share is to use a REAL database engine that works on TCP/IP, like SQL Server or MySQL.

would you please help me to check sql server by tcp/ip connection?

What do you mean by "check sql server"??

i mean create and check what you say about TCP/IP connection by sql server.
is there any tutorial or sample for it?
thanks

All you have to do is look in the documentation for the System.Data.SqlClient namespace. There's tons of examples. The only thing missing from them is a connection string, which will be specific to your environment. You can find examples of those at ConnectionString.com[^].

I have got to validate an XML Stream against an XSD Schema (embedded resource)
I have a schema which points to a simple type as below
<xsd:element name="fileName" type="url" maxOccurs="unbounded" />
<xsd:simpleType name="url">
<xsd:annotation>
<xsd:documentation>RFC 1738 [http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1738.txt]</xsd:documentation>
</xsd:annotation>
<xsd:restriction base="xsd:anyURI" />
</xsd:simpleType>
The Problem I have is that when I try to validate a XML Stream as follows it fails
<fileName>file://fileName.ext</fileName>
but if I use the following
<fileName>url:file://fileName.ext</fileName>the validation works,
WHY DO I NEED THE PREFIX url: and IS THERE A WAY AROUND NOT NEEDING IT ???
I have quite a few projects running off this including 3rd party s/w which will all need to be altered, if there is no way around this problem
I have created the following to validate the XML Stream with an XSD schema
XML Text Reader - which reads in an XML File
XML Name Table
XML Schema Collection - which holds the Name Table
Xml Validating Reader - which holds the XML Stream
Set the ValidatingReader.ValidationType = Schema
Created the New ValidationEventHandler
Added the Schema Collection to the Validating Reader
XML Document.load - the XML Validating Reader
and the above fails as mentioned
Any Help would be most appreciated
Cheers

I am looking for a Tokenize function that respects (i.e. ignores) certain pairs of characters, like quotes, brackets etc.
(regarding priority and escape characters, C# syntax preferred )
i.e.
Tokenize("Hello, 'World,Worlds', something(goo,gambas)", ',')
should return an array with the following strings:
Hello
World,Worlds
something(goo,gambas)
I just wish wish wish :heart: that someone already has something...

Here is what you seek.
(but, in my opinion, Split method of String does it's job well. Look here.)

Hey peterchen. Looks like Dmitry has pointed you to an article that may work.
In case it doesn't work, here's something I coded up. I spent a good 20 minutes or so trying 3 different solutions. This one seems to work best, although I haven't run it through any kind of rigorous testing. It uses C# 2's iterators for great performance -- it only does work when you ask for results. Here it is:
public IEnumerable<string> Tokenize(string input, char seperator)
{
int lastSeperatorIndex = 0;
int openSingleQuoteCount = 0;
int openParenthesisCount = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < input.Length; i++)
{
char character = input[i];
if (character == '(')
{
openParenthesisCount++;
}
else if (character == ')' && openParenthesisCount > 0)
{
openParenthesisCount--;
}
else if (character == '\'')
{
openSingleQuoteCount = (openSingleQuoteCount == 0) ? openSingleQuoteCount + 1 : openSingleQuoteCount - 1;
}
else if (character == seperator && openParenthesisCount == 0 && openSingleQuoteCount == 0)
{
yield return input.Substring(lastSeperatorIndex, i - lastSeperatorIndex + 1).Trim(seperator);
lastSeperatorIndex = i;
}
if (i == input.Length - 1 && i != lastSeperatorIndex)
{
yield return input.Substring(lastSeperatorIndex, i - lastSeperatorIndex + 1).Trim(seperator);
}
}
}
Putting in this string: "Hello, 'World,Worlds', something(goo,gambas), blahFoo(inner(double, inner), outer)"
Results in "Hello", "'World,Worlds'", "something(goo,gambas)", "blahFoo(inner(double, inner), outer)".
For what it's worth, I bet LINQ would let us write a little query on the string to accomplish the same thing, only in about 3 or 4 lines of code.

If only we knew how these lines have to look!
Using an enumerator and yield is a good idea, I'll have to add support for double quotes and square brackets - tomorrow
P.S. I'm always amazed how far you go out of your way to help. I don't kow how to say "thank you".

I just downloaded Orcas Beta 1. Maybe I'll give it a shot with LINQ. Would be a good learning experience.

Hello!
hope you all are doing fine, following is the scenario:
- we have an executable A.exe
- we have another executable B.exe
- both are VC# Win Apps
problem:
- we execute A.exe
- when the user press Finish button, we want to do the following 2 things
1. execute B.exe
2. close A.exe
the catch is, we donot want to close B.exe!!tried it with process class, but it doesnt help!
Thanks in advance! !
|
|
|
|
|
In the finish button you could use Process.Start to run B.Exe and then call the code to close A.exe

Thanks, i tried that idea before but did a blunder, its working now!! !
