If I create an HttpWebRequest to an Https site, using TLS. Am I guaranteed to be FIPS 140-2 compliant on all platforms? I'm fairly certain based on articles that I've found that I am on WinMobile 5/Win 32, but I have my doubts for Pocket PC 2003/Windows Mobile 2003.

hi friends
i am creating crytal report frm the stored procedure ,this works fine when i pass one parameter but it shows an error "incorrect parameter " whn i pass two parameter
my code is
{
ReportDocument reportDocument = new ReportDocument();
ParameterField paramField = new ParameterField();
ParameterFields paramFields = new ParameterFields();
ParameterDiscreteValue paramDiscreteValue = new ParameterDiscreteValue();
paramField.Name = "@Dept";
paramDiscreteValue.Value = TextBox1.Text.ToString();
paramField.CurrentValues.Add(paramDiscreteValue);
paramFields.Add(paramField);
paramField.Name = "@Name";
paramDiscreteValue.Value = TextBox2.Text.ToString();
paramField.CurrentValues.Add(paramDiscreteValue);
paramFields.Add(paramField);
CrystalReportViewer1.ParameterFieldInfo = paramFields;
reportDocument.Load(Server.MapPath("CrystalReport.rpt"));
CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = reportDocument;
reportDocument.SetDatabaseLogon("sa", "sa", "OPWFMS-7KYGZ7SB", "test");
}

Whats the advantage of
<br />
this.Invoke(new Function(delegate()<br />
{<br />
tbInfo.Text = "Capture Complete";<br />
}));<br />
over this:
tbInfo.Text = "Complete"; ?
Thanks

Hi,
assuming this is a Control (e.g. a Form), Invoke forces the delegate to be executed on the GUI thread; Controls are not thread-safe and can only be operated upon from the GUI thread!

So if I have this for instance:
label1.BackColor = Color.Red;
doSomethingHeroic();
- which normally results in something heroic happening, but not the color changing - it will allow me to change the color without it skipping past it?
(If it doesnt mean that, then is there any reason why it does do that? In a timer tick event.)

Hi,
if
label1.BackColor = Color.Red;
doSomethingHeroic();
is inside a System.Windows.Forms.Timer's tick handler (which always executes on the GUI thread), then (1) calling this.Invoke() and (2) changing a Control somehow will not show until the GUI thread gets to it, which normally is not before the Tick handler is done. You can remedy that in several ways, depending on circumstances:
- by calling Refresh() or Invalidate() on the Control;
- by inserting an Application.DoEvents() which is dangerous and an ugly hack;
- by moving long-winding operations (I assume doSomethingHeroic is) to another thread, which may well be necessary since a GUI thread should not be kept busy for more than say 30 msec in order to keep your app responsive (to user input, to other Windows uncovering it, etc).

<pre> - by moving long-winding operations (I assume doSomethingHeroic is) </pre>
Yes, it takes over the world, so I spose it deserves its own thread :P.
Thanks alot

Poor man's method of writing bad code for multithreaded UI's. InvokeRequired should be checked before updating UI elements.

I cannot get the System.Net.Mail to send out an email message from my Windows application. The Try Catch reports an the error message 'Failure sending message'. What is causing the error? Below is the code I'm using.
MailAddress objFromMailAddress = new MailAddress(fromemailaddress, "Test");
MailAddress objToMailAddress = new MailAddress(toemailaddress);
MailMessage objMailMessage = new MailMessage(objFromMailAddress, objToMailAddress);
objMailMessage.Subject = "Subject";
objMailMessage.IsBodyHtml = false;
objMailMessage.Body = "Email message";
NetworkCredential objNetworkCredential = new NetworkCredential(outgoingusername, outgoingpassword, "smtp.1and1.com");
SmtpClient objSmtpClient = new SmtpClient();
objSmtpClient.Host = "smtp.1and1.com";
objSmtpClient.Port = 110;
objSmtpClient.UseDefaultCredentials = false;
objSmtpClient.Credentials = objNetworkCredential;
try
{
objSmtpClient.Send(objMailMessage);
}
catch (Exception pError)
{
}

Not so well up on the Mail namespace, but port 110 is POP3. Presumably you want port 21 for SMTP.

Oh, well that's rather disturbing. I really am getting to that age where I can't remember stuff anymore.

Yeah, I'm 40 and suff from CRS syndrome too.

I did change the port to 25 and still no luck. What else could be wrong?

hi all,
i have stored procedure it has some varchar(1) variable.
when i execute on sqlserver management studio as
EXEC exs_clearance @from ='20090316', @to ='20090316', @side = '', @symbolType = '', @symbol = '', @client = '', @account_auto_num = '', @csv = '1', @sp_instructions = '', @show_sp = '', @adp = 'ridge', @clrFirm = ''
than it gives some outputs.
but when i execute from winform through LINQ datacontext as
dataGridView1.DataSource = Context.exs_clearance("20090316", "20090316", "",'\0', "", "", "",'1','\0', '\0', "ridge", "").ToList();
than it returns zero row..........why?
how can i get data?

hello dear Mohit Here
Please Send me a some detail of this like if you want total fields
that are in exs_clearance then you just write
Context.exs_clearance().toList();
other wise get Id or any object so that you find record for particular
record. otherwise send me a detail i'l surely solve your problem..

exs_clearance() has 8 arguments so Context.exs_clearance().toList(); is not possible.
my problem is that how do i pass the empty character which are varchar(1) variables to the exs_clearance storedprocedure
thanks

My guess is it is your use of null literal characters '\0'. LINQPad is a good tool that will help you debug, your LINQ problems. Another good tool(s) are the visualizers for LINQ and Lambda expressions. It will show you the outpus and inputs and how they are translated by the intermediate LINQ expression builder.
Try sending a null literal using the key word 'null'. Or try modifying your T-SQL to convert the '\0' into a SQL null or empty.

i enter query in LINQPad as
exs_clearance("20090316", "20090316", "","", "", "", "","1","", "", "ridge", "")
LINQPad show no error and execute but it still executing ..........i can't wait.

Sounds like you are running into a loop on the db. LINQPad should return the result in the same time it takes the C# to execute. Does your LINQ side query do any pre processing before handing off to the db for SQL processing? Or are you using the SProc wrapper built by the LINQ ORM mapper? The visualizers also allow you to directly enter inputs to the DataContext.
You might also try a simple query in LINQPad to verify that your DataContext is properly mapped. You must map the DataContext to your ORM. Additionally, you might need to make a refrence to the context in LINQPad so that it can find all the dependancys of your project. Ie. anything not included in the .NET Framework you are using, all of your 'Includes' spicific to your project. LINQPad is smart, but it will not tell you that an object refrence is not found in the expression builder.
Use the half split method of tracing down the problem.

Hi all,
How to set dynamic database connection to crystal report.
for eg all reports get connection from web.config file or from class file.
Now, we are creating connection for each report, and its given at design time.
is it possible to dynamically apply the connection string from config file to all the crystal reports.
Thank you in advance
Regards
Rema

I suggest that you discuss this with your tutor.
