I have a text file which, is basically being used as a database in my project.
My program reads the file, makes some changes then saves it again.
I have the program working fine, except that it explicitly reference the text file by its path and name.
The problem is I now want to publish the program for others to use.
I want the text file to be included in the publish and I want the program to use that file given.
As it stands, because I have hard coded the path to the file. The program won't work on any other machine.
How do I;
1.) Have the text file included when people run my publish instalation file.
2.) Let the program know where to get the file.

You probably want the file to reside in the same path as the exe file.
1 simply include the file in the project and make sure your deployment project includes it.
2 check out the application.exepath or the assembly.startlocation (there are a number of references to the folder you want).

You could use the project's Resources component to house the file.

You must be doing the same course as another twit in the forums, asked the same questions and didn't understand the answers.
Try searching recent posts you should be able to find it!

So writing what is effectivley a compiler is going to be way outside your capabilities. Get a good book on C#, start at the beginning and learn to walk before you run.

hi
In windows application I am using a button and serial port
in button the control is like a power ON/OFF switch which should change the color if its clicked. ie., when first click is ON the color is red and second click OFF Blue.
And it should send a value to serial port for ON "A", For OFF "a".
i need the code. for above application

|

so have a bool assign to false.
then in your button click...
isOn = !isOn;
if(isOn)
{
button.BackColor = Color.Red;
}
else
{
button.BackColor = Color.Blue;
}

Use Green color. It would be as per the standards.

Hello Friends
I need to get the value of the cell of my grid. I mean suppose if I click on the cell which is is on 3rd row and 2nd column then I'll get the value of that cell or how can I hold that cell? And I'm using Devexpress grid control.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanking in advance
Johnny

I don't use DevEx controls but there must be an event fired when you click on a cell, part of the event will be the e arguments, inspect them and you will almost certainly find a reference to the cell, column and row of the clicked cell.

Hello fellow DevXian...
I understand your pain. I love DevX, but learning all of the new functions can be a bit overwhelming. Too bad they don't have better on-line help.
Anyway, I believe the function you are looking for is [YourGridView].GetFocusedRowCellValue(). You'll have to supply a GridColumn or the field name as a string for the column of interest.
Hope that helps. You can also try searching their on-line help at www.devexpress.com/Support/Center[^]
