Hi all,
In my application(winsock Programm) I am sending the message to
client application and i am waiting for ack,
I have a plan to implement timeout mechanism
if client doesn't send any ack
please give your sugesstions .
My question is "Is there any timeOut Mechanism in Winsock Programming?Like SerialComm"

I have made a program that reads all kind of technical information about
the workstation, but one thing is missing:

How could I identify the mother board? Confused | :confused:

I am using win NT4.0 & MS VC++6.

This is a tool for my own use, it would help to get _any kind_ of information
what mobo is being used. (Other option is for me to go through 120+
workstations sooner or later Dead | X|

)

You probably have to create a device-driver to be able to get at the information from the system BIOS to see what BIOS vendor it is. From that point you have to collect information from all mobo vendors and try to match it. Short: There is no info available on what mobo you're using, you have to look this up yourself.
I wouldn't even consider this unless there was a known collection of mobos used.

I could quite easily find out what mobos we have. Even information who is the manufacturer (asus, abit, etc) would be a big help.

Drawing in layers

Hi guys!

Does anybody has any idea how to draw in different layers, so to be able to turn off a layer when not needed any more and get the original picture back? I find it sometimes too expensive to redraw a whole picture if I just need to remove some icons or other item drawn on it, or to calculate a rect of the pic to be "cut off" and then bitblt-ed from the resource bmp again to "fill the hole".

Any help, idea, or pointer to something similar would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Use double array:
Use a vector of graphical objects for each layer.
Use a main vector to store all the layers.

Id say Chris Muench's book The Windows CE Technology Tutorial [^]is the best one I've seen. It covers alot of the diffrences between CE and the desktop.

Otherwise, any good MFC/win32 book + MSDN's CE pages will do the trick.

As a beginer of ATL Based Web Service programmer, I have some some questions about it:
1)Whether a Web Sevice can hold its state during its serving many clients, for I want keep some data structs among clients because these clients are collorating doing a certain work. If Web Service can has this virtue, how can I do, are there some documents about it?

2) can a web service client dynamicly locate the server without recompiling its source files When a Web Service provider changes its location on the internet? If it can, how can I do and are there some documents about it?

I need to kill a already running exe through my program whose execution I started through the system("filename") command of C.How do I do this.Is there any method available??

To kill a process, use TerminateProcess. TerminateProcess needs a process handle - you'll have to use CreateProcess or ShellExecuteEx instead of system("filename").

... or look it up using one of the MS API's (different for every platform and blah blah blah...).

There is however IIRC a library for this here at CP. Maybe you should browse around a bit.

Do you know anything else about the app, like Window Class, Window name? Actually, what do you know about the process you want to kill?

I have no idea what's the Window Class. Maybe you should ask original poster about that? Smile | :)

Anyway, I think switching from system to CreateProcess/ShellExecuteEx is waaaay easier than firetrucking with enumerating processes.

What kind of data structure would a control like this use...? What kind of loop would you use to iterate the entire array...? Assuming you use and array and not a linked list or something...?

In a very loosley typed lang would it look anything like this???

struct TREE_ITEM{
  TREE_ITEM Parent;
  TREE_ITEM Child;
  CString   Caption;
  DWORD     CommandID;
}

I'm not really interested in Treeview structures only it's more curiousity about how hierarchial structures work. So please don't mention how I may have missed a field inside the TREE_ITEM structure like CImageList or something...

Using the above structure makes iterating an array confusing as heck.

while(TREE_VIEW.Child){
  
}

The above seems (I'm almost positive i'm missing something) to trivial???

This would only intereate the top most parent items, but what about children of children and such...?

my experience of iterating CTreeCtrls has always been using recursive functions.

ie (pseudocode)

void ProcessTreeItem(HTREEITEM hti)
{
    // do the processing for this specific item
    // ...

    // then process all the children
    HTREEITEM htiChild = GetFirstChild(hti);

    while (htiChild)
    {
         ProcessTreeItem(htiChild); // this is the recursive call
         htiChild = GetNextChild(hti, htiChild);
    }
}
