Well in your win32 application there must be a call to to registerclass to register your main window.
That is how you register a class,
but if you are writting your own button, i would prefer to subclass the windowclass that windows has defined, that way you can also use the Dialog editor to design your UI.
Just my thoughts,
I have not done like this before but i think that should work.
check here[^] for system classes

Thank you once again for reply.
to register do we need windows class or we can use our own class (with does not have any member of windows)
thanks

you need to provide a new class name when you register.

Sorry i dont any at the moment for win32 implementation of a custom control. But should not be too difficult if tried.

I am interested in extracting the edges from the gray scale images.
Presently i m trying to work with sobel. But if any one can suggest the appropriate filters which i can use for my edge detection algorithm. Is the hough transformation helpful? Please also suggest me some libraries if already exist.

You need to be more specific about what your looking for. If you are looking to convert image to edges, then look elsewhere.
Senthilgeo wrote: Please also suggest me some libraries if already exist.
There are code snippets out there that do Sobel, and there are whole libraries that do computer vision. If you are into Matlab, there are toolboxs that are devoted to this. In the end it depends on how you have your data setup and how you want it to fit in your project.

Actually, the project i am trying to do is planar extraction from greyscale images for 3D modeling using C++. For computing the edge, i tried with Sobel Gradient. For line generation, i thought of using hough transformation, are there any libraries available? do u have any other suggestions or alternatives for hough transformatio

Ok I think I misunderstood you the first time. After you get the edges you can use Hough transform to find the different line segments. It should be very easy to implement. It also should be easy to restrict by lines of certain lengths.
Senthilgeo wrote: are there any libraries available?
Again there are a couple depending on what you are looking for. Intel has a popular one [opencv, though when I used it a good while back I had issues with some aspects of it]. There are many that perform single or a class of algorithims, one of which was posted below this: Chris's reply. The reason I am not recommending a specific implementation of an algorithim, is because unless you use a whole library like opencv, the data structures you use will likely be different from the one in the implementation, and it would be easier to do yourself at that point [there are many implmentations you can look at by googling to get a starting idea].

take a look[^]
the Canny detector is much better, IMO, at finding lines without too many ugly artifacts.
here[^] is a demo of one of our libraries that includes a Canny detector (under "Color Based Effects")

There is an article on codeproject on how to scroll a property
page. The problem is two fold:
1. When you click on the scrollbars on that demo project, the
screen goes blank. You then click again and everything reappears
and you can scroll. So clicking on the scroll bars is bad.
2. The design just looks peculiar. I cant put my finger on it.
My question is, any idea on how to implement a scrollable
property page or any idea on how to design a program, where you
have 4-tabs (ie pages) but one page is really long and requires
scrolling?
Any response any one can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Danielle Brina (an overworked graduate student)

Hi Everybody,
I am working on a project whose main purpose is to aggregate data and select data records (based on users' selection cirteria) from several large data tables. The data originally are text files and would be imported into database by the application. I don't particularly care which database engine to use at the time being but it would be nice to use some standard engines (e.g. MS SQL Server) in case there is a need of accessing the database from other applications in the future.
Here are my questions:
1) If speed is the main concern, what kind of method should I use (ADO, DAO, or any other approach)?
2) If I use MS SQL Engine, do I need some sort of license from Microsoft? Do users need MS SQL Licenses?
3) I read some database sample codes and the first step is, in general, to define database in Windows Control Panel. When the application is distributed to users, do they have to go through the same procedue, or can a database template be included in the application?
I searched the internet and couldn't find satisfactory answers. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can provide some suggestions or point to the useful articles?

Go for ADO , please dont wake DAO from grave anymore lets give it a peaceful sleep.

MS SQL is certainly not a "MY-SQL" ;P but wont your company take of these issues?

you need to register it in the user end too, i've been doing them manually.. but i think an alternative should be there.. lets wait for a better reply.

Hi VuNic,
Your reply is very helpful and is much appreciated.
The project is kind of "freeware". I don't want to, if it is at all possible, add any extra cost in both my end and users' end. Can I still use SQL commands in someway, or do I have to code all those "select" commands by myself? By the way, I am using MS VC++ .Net 2003. Thanks.

SQL is not a property of MS buddy!, all these DDL,DML are common for everyone..its just a standard(Structured!) way of manipulating your database. when you want your product to be totally free of cost at the user end, go for my-sql.
good luck
