Hi all,

I would like to write program, hardware info - like cpu-Z(it's realy great tool!).

I tried WMI, but I wasn't able to get memory type (DDR,DDR2), frequency and other things.

What should I focus in?

Could you help me?

WMI is useful, but accesses a HUGE number of classes, often with names that don't seem to accurately describe the information that is available. If you have, WMI CIM Studio[^], that utility is the best place to start looking for the information. This is available as the WMI Adminstrative Tools download for Windows XP[^]
For instance, when you start WMI CIM Studio, you want to view instances of the Win32_PhysicalMemory class[^] on your computer. Read down the page of the documentation until you locate the property, MemoryType.
This information is often reported by the device driver (in this case), and may not be available, depending on how the driver is implemented.
Once you know the information is available it is a simple matter to code the WMI query, but locating it initially, especially if you don't even know where to look can be very time comsuming.
Read through the documentation that comes with your Visual Studio version for the Win32_classes, this can be helpful.

I know Win32_PhysicalMemory class, there is the MemoryType property. But on the Windows XP prof. with sp2 I wasn't able to get proper MemoryType-DDR2, it returns unknown memory type. I tried it on 100 machines. I also had a problem with memory speed(it depends on hardware I think).

Cpu-Z returns corect result(memory type and speed).

Does it exist another solution?

Ah,...I was wondering how many queries you'd already tried. That's the problem with WMI, it often doesn't produce the results you need. But, it's the logical place to start.
I went over to the CPUID Developer System Information SDK site[^], and I got the impression that they did alot of research into the various hardware capabilities. The promotional material at the site states: "At the core of the CPUID kits is a powerful hardware detection engine based on a kernel-mode software driver".
Also, "CPU-Z benefits from a great support of the hardware industry, resulting in the best source of information and a quick reactivity in the support of latest technologies.'

...This is WAY BEYOND WMI,...

I agree. I had the same problem with my laptop sound card. Neither WMI nor the registry contained any useful information at all, except the trade name and manufacturer of the device.
I happened to run into this article: What Every Programmer Should Know About Memory[^], it might give you some ideas (although it just concerns memory hardware).

Hello,

I have a Dialog application derived from CDialog. I've added a Webbrowser control[^] to the dialog.
I want to handle scripting errors that appear when certain URLs are opened.
I read this article about the subject "How to handle script errors as a WebBrowser control host[^]"

I don't know how to implement Iolecommandtarget interface and how to add "Exec" function. I read this article[^]
Should I do the steps mentioned in the article with the CDialog-derived class? What should I do after that to include Exec method?
I am missing the connection between the second article and the first one.

Hi, I want to build simple GUI Applications/Utilities with C++ on Windows. Please let me know which free softwares can I use. I don't want C++.NET ( I know C#) just plain C++. C# is good but requires .NET runtime, which increases runtime memory usage, and I guess so would be the case with C++.NET. So I want to build in C++; fast and less memory usage.

Just get the Visual C++ 2008 express edition. Its free(limited features) and one of the best tool for windows platform development. Get it from here - http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/[^]

I need a small, free development software to build Windows GUI. I dont want to download trial versions of huge softwares requiring huge amounts of disk space just to build small Apps with buttons.
I have been suggested Digital Mars C++[^]

Please suggest more options.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge (and stupidity). MS Visual Studio is one huge bundle. I need something under 50 MB. I checked Turbo C++ explorer which also is above 300 MB. There must be tools available which are

have IDE
Small Package
Allow building Windows GUI Apps

Isn't eclipse aver 100MB? Not to mention the (speed) performance of it just plain sucks.

Anyway, what about Code::Blocks or DevCpp or Open Watcom. I've used all three and would recommend Code::Blocks by far, DevCpp is a little old in the tooth , and not maintained unless you get wxDevCpp. Open Watcom is also a little old in the tooth & fairly hefty @ around 60mb download - although it does include cross-compilers so you can make 16bit dos creations, or linux creations - all from the comfort of your windows desktop.

I use it for Java coding and the speed is far from slow. Maybe the C++ plugin is different.

Because I am reading from config File i.e UserName,Password and ServerName.
In Config File we can specify with ";" character..thats why its create error thats why i want to remove ";"

I can't see any ; in your csUserName string. Do you mean that your username is read from user directly and you want to remove all ; from it?

Exactly sir...When I Read from Config File Iget
Example I Config File I have
UserName=manju;
PassWord=abc;

When I read from Config File I get
csUserName=manju;...

But i want is only

csUserName=manju

Easy method is to use CString::Remove() function.

CString csUserName = "User;Name;";
csUserName.Remove( ';' );

I used different code...
I first Converted from _TCHAR* to CString and removed the ";" character..
But again i need to convert CString to _TCHAR*..

But i am getting some error..
Plz check i am correct or no..

Heres the code i tried
