Hello i would like to know if any of you are using or have used the c++ web toolkit http://www.webtoolkit.eu/wt[^] and what are your opininons in regard to performance , security , flexibility and usability compared to other tehnologies or frameworks (php javascript asp cakephp jquery etc)

Hi there,

I'm looking to get the real time weather of a particular city, when the pincode for the same has been provided.

Is there any way in VC++ 6.0 or any Internet API which I can use to get the same?

Kindly share your comments on this.

Look at WinInet[^] - that's a good starting point for HTML/HTTP interfacing. If the web-service you're going to use is written using SOAP, then gSOAP[^] may be more appropriate.

Where are you wanting to get this information from? To my knowledge, there is not a central location like there is with getting the current time.

Hi David,

I've seen a gadget called 'Weather 1.0.0' which comes with Windows Vista - Side Bar. I hope the same can be done using VC++. But I've no clues on how to start with.

This needs an internet connection to be active to update the weather information.

If someone can provide some pointers on this, will help me in proceeding further to achieve the same.

Hi Stuart / David,

I got some information from google.

"http://www.google.co.in/ig/api?weather=trivandrum,india"

we can specify the city name and the country name in the weather and it will display the contents in XML format.

I would like to know, how through programically using VC+ to write the XML contents to a file or even read the contents of the XML so as to extract the weather information.

Kindly pass on your comments.

Please let me know, if you have a better way to achieve the same.

Good news - you can actually help yourself by searching the articles on this site. There are several ready-to-use classes for reading/writing Excel files.

I've used BasicExcel and it's fantastic: BasicExcel - A Class to Read and Write to Microsoft Excel[^]

You might also want to try XLW[^].

Not really sure what you mean, but most likely you want some kind of Inter Process Communication (IPC).
You can find various solutions for IPC here[^] involving shared memory, pipes, usage of WM_COPYDATA and more.

You could use a kernel object like Mutex and synchronization functions like WaitForSingleObject, WaitForMultipleObjects, etc., But to provide you with a more specific answer, you need to ask a specific query. Smile | :)

Hello,
I wrote an sql client application using VS2008 and ODBC driver.I am using sql express 2008 as server.
I want to prepare installer application to install it. How can I create ODBC and configure it for my application?
I am doing it manually using administrative tools. And I have database creation scripts and running them within managment studio of sql server. How can i install and run scripts automaticly during installtion?Any links or tutorials ..
