Getting the Parent of an item in Tree control in win32

Hi ,
I want to retrieve the parent of a selected item in a tree control.
I am using
Selected=(HTREEITEM)SendDlgItemMessage(hWnd,
IDC_TREE1,TVM_GETNEXTITEM,TVGN_CARET,(LPARAM)Selected);
Element = (HTREEITEM)SendDlgItemMessage(hWnd,IDC_TREE1,
TVM_SELECTITEM,TVGN_CARET,(LPARAM)Selected);
SendDlgItemMessage(hWnd,IDC_TREE1,
TVM_GETITEM,TVGN_CARET,(LPARAM)&tvi));

and then
i am using
Parent = (HTREEITEM)SendDlgItemMessage(hWnd,IDC_TREE1,
TVM_SELECTITEM,TVGN_PAREN,(LPARAM)Element );

but i am getting NULL value for Parent.
can any one help me with the problem

What about something like this:

HWND hwndTree = ::GetDlgItem(hWnd, IDC_TREE1);
HTREEITEM Selected = TreeView_GetSelection(hwndTree);
if (NULL != Selected)
{
   HTREEITEM Parent = TreeView_GetParent(hwndTree, Selected);
   if (NULL != Parent)
   {
      ...
   }
}

Hi,

I want to dismount the physical disk but DeviceIoControl()function with FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME control code is not work on physical disk handle.

Is FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME only used with logical drive handle?

From the documentation: If the operation fails or is pending, DeviceIoControl returns zero (0). To get extended error information, call GetLastError.

Did you try to find out what went wrong by calling GetLastError()?

I have a dialog with a radio button on it. This dialog is modeless and child of CView class. Can I handle the dialog messages like radio button ON_COMMAND in my view class? I am not receiving these messages in my view class. However, if I add a separate class for dialog, then messages are properly received there.

modeless dialogs don't have a message loop. so if you want to process the messages than you need a second GUI thread to launch and show the dialog!

Somethings seem HARD to do, until we know how to do them.

I have a MDI Application(class is view,mainframe and extra class is data).ANd i add dailog(class testdlg) and call it as a domodel.I add list box in dialog and add variable m_add.These m_add variable i want to call data.cpp.

If your dialog is modal, you can't. But as I suggested yesterday, read a good book on MFC because you are really missing out fundamuntal concepts.

To buy a book ? Well, then try to find some good tutorials about MFC on the net (e.g. google[^]). I think you really need to understand the basics before trying to go any further.

I use CToolBarCtrl to create a toolbar in the dialog.
There are 5 buttons in the toolbar.
Initially I set the 3rd button checked.
But it always make the left most button focus.(Highlightly?)I don't want this.

hi
in my application i have one dll ,and 3 views.
when user clicks on one view --dll function is called(mapped to dll fun)
from that all function to i nead to send message to that view..how to doit can any one give hint....

Use Ctrl+Left/Right to switch messages, Ctrl+Up/Down to switch threads, Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right to switch pages.
