hi, I have a project(Windows Application) which i need to add a web reference to. For some reason, if i try to add a web reference it opens up a dialog box with stating "Do you want to save file or open it?
The name of the file is HelpWaterMark.htm? I know it is one of the project option which may have caused this.
It doens't let me add a web reference. If I click open the file then, it would open the file located at url instead of adding the reference to the project. Does anyone know why?
If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate that.
thanks a lot
Thanks

It is the default action. To use a web page think using a web browser from the toolbar's common controls.

How can it help me add a reference? Let me repeat my question. I have a windows application project. I need to call a web service in my project. Usually, if one clicks on "Add Web reference" and type the url the Add web reference would display the available methods on the left side of the window.
However, in my case if I click on the add web reference button, it instead opens up a dialog box stating if you want to open a file or save it to the disk with file "Helpwatermark.htm".
Please respond ASAP. If I repeat the same procedure in my other project it shows available methods on the left side of add reference dialog box and if I click on one of the methods it adds the reference with given name.
Please shed the light if anyone knows what is wrong with settings/options.
Thanks

Hi Guys
I am working on a project which requires me to scroll an object such as "Label" object. Right now I am doing this with the following method:
Declaration:
Dim Pos as integer
Private Sub btnscroll_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnscroll.Click
lblscroll.Left = Me.Width + 1
pos = Me.Width + 1
Timer1.Interval = 100
Timer1.Enabled = True
Timer1.Start()
End Sub
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
lblscroll.Left = pos
pos -= 1
End Sub
But the problem is that it flickers and I want it to be smooth. And as the value of the left property of the "Label" cannot be in decimal.
So if anyone of u can help me to scroll the object flicker free then please tell me and also note my email: maptiger@hotmail.com
Thanks anyways.

If you are using .NET 2005, you can set the form's DoubleBuffered property to True.
|
|
|
|
|
Well, there wasn't much difference after doublebuffered property is set to true. Well, ok lets more specific what if come other thing provides me a surface where i can move the object in decimal format i.e 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc except 1, 2, 3 etc. so then the doublebuffered property will be more useful n i would have more precise control over the scrolling.
Thanks in advance.

Here is an easy way to capture the hostname for a Windows form in VB.NET
Add this entry to declarations:
Imports System.Net
Establish the variable with the GetHostName function:
Dim strLoggedHost = Dns.GetHostName()
I searched all over and found many other ways that required more lines of code. This is simple and to the point.

Ok, so I'm a VB newbie so hopefully this doesn't sound too trivial. I'm having fun using the CreateObject("Excel.Application") deal but I want to do more with it and can't seem to find any good resources beyond the basics. The CreateObject concept is still a bit fuzzy to me, but I sure would like to know all the possible methods/properties so I can expand and debug. All I've found so far in the way of resources are basic examples. Anyone know of any sites/articles/gurus?
Thanks!

I have a sub called Save that saves a record to a table. I have an ID column that is autonumbered in the table. I also have a textbox that is bound to the ID column. Every time I click the save button, it creates a new record which is fine, but the ID in my textbox always remains the same.
How can I "autonumber" my textbox, so that the textbox looks at the most recent ID, or saved record?
Thanks in advance,
Rashar

I figured it out... I changed the order of my dataset to order by ID Desc.
Now it looks at the current record.

Hi ALL...
Using SMO I want to do backup and restore database thru my VB.Net application (2005).
The backup operation is working fine.
The restore is also working if i'm restoring to the same database in the same machine.
But, if i'm restoring as a different database name or in a different machine(where the MSSQL data files' folder path is different from the server from where i took backup), it is giving an error.
The problem i found is that i'm not able to change the path of the data files (eg; C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data)
Pls help
Have a nice day

Dear Friends,
I want to write a program in VB.Net using CheckedListBox.
Also I would like not to allow the double_click event. Because when an item is selected, the selected item should be saved in a file, now the problem arised is that, if i make a first doubleclick event the item is selected, but the selected event is running. If I call the procedure which are in the Item_selected event, then there is an error, because the system doesn't know the selected item's index.
So I prefer to cancel the event happend by the doubleclick. Please let me know how can I achieve this.
Thanks in advanced,
Suganthan

One old-time solution: set a "tamper-proof" switch within your program (you'll probably need to create one for every checkbox you've programmed in, so a "1 or 0" table might be best suited to the purpose) that is set "Off" when the program is initialized but is turned "On" when the Checked Item is first selected. Program the Selection verification process to not allow deselection if the "tamper proof" switch is on. That way, the only time the box can be checked or unchecked is (1) either the next time the program is initialized, or (2) unless the you programatically allow the "tamper proof" switch to be turned off while the program is executing.
A bit clumsy perhaps but it'll serve your purpose if you need a quick solution .

Hello friends,
i am usinfg a structure and that structure is going to save on a file..
code snipet-->
Open file_Name For Random As #1 Len = Len(myStructure)
Put #1, 1, myStucture
Close #1
---
If structure contains more values, the Put command throws an error.
I dont know why? but i think if structure size is bigger then only it happens.
Plz tell me the allowable size in bytes that can be aaded into the file.
thanks in advance!!
hoping best from U

I seriously doubt your structure is that big. The limit is controlled by the Filesystem of the device you're writing too.
Without seeing your structure, it's impossible to tell you whats wrong. The code you've posted appears to be fine.

i read msdn about sockets. I want to block access to and from all URLs.ie Block internet explorer,or any Internet application from accessing the web and vis-versa. I wrote an app but it fails and i dont know wheather ive got all right. Is there anyone who knows how to stop trafic to and fro? then allow trafic to flow when desired?

Didn't I just get done telling you what your solution is?
Now, you changed the requirements a bit. Now you want ALL applications to be denied access to the 'Net. Your best solution is now a firewall between either your network and your ISP, or installed on your machine. Either way, you'll need some kind of management app to control the firewall, like turning it on and off, opening/closing ports, ...
If you're new to socket apps, writing your own firewall will be next to impossible. You'll need an in depth knowledge of writing NDIS drivers, like Colin said, which you really can't do in VB.nET or C#. You'll need to be familiar with the TCP/IP stack and how Microsoft implements it.
I know how to mix a wheelbarrow of concrete, but it doesn't really help me in building a dam, now does it?
