If your comparing every record side-by-side against a corresponding record in the second dataset then you don't use two while loops. You use one.
If your comparing every record in the first table with every other record in the second table, then this works. And yes, you have to reload the DataReader for each pass, since they a forward-only readers. You can't move the cursors in them backwards.

Hi,
I am currently in need of an article or the steps required for creating a UFL that I can then use within my crystal report. I have no idea how to do this, and after reading a few articles online, they require me to create a new project, win32 dynamic link library project, but I cannot find anything close to that unless I go into the MFC projects. Could someone point me to a good article or give me a walkthrough on how to create this project? thank you.
PS
I am using visual studio 2003.. standard?

Here's my question
I know how to create controls and add them to the winform at runtime.
While I hope I can save added controls somewhere on the disk, so next time the users open the winform, the added controls will be there.
Thanks.

Hi
You have to store the information somewhere in the database/textfile from where you can load the controls when the user wants at a later stage. The information to be stored are Control Type, Left, Top, Width and Height, so that you can recreate the controls and set these properties.
Hope this helps you.

Thank you so much, this does help me.
but I got a further question about this.
I am doing a project pretty much like the photoshop (but much simpler and easier).
Users can add and edit controls on a winform.
I was trying to save the users added controls in a txt file by saving a string
object.gettype.tostring. e.g: "System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox"
while when trying to Retrive the information, How can I create this object back?
I can do the following:
if string = "System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox" then
dim a as new picturebox
end if
Are there other ways of doing this?
Thanks

Hi
what you have written is correct. I don't think there is any other way to do this.

There's no method to do it for you. You have to clear the TextBox's yourself.
TextBox1.Text = String.Empty
TextBox4.Text = String.Empty

I have an application is running on a local LAN. I need to create a service that other users on the LAN can send XML data to, have it process it, and return back an XML recordset. It will need to be able to queue requests from multiple clients.
I am looking for some ideas on where to get started.
The clients will all be authenicated via Windows.
They all will be connected directly via LAN.
VB.NET is my preferred development language (have both 2003 and 2005)
Thanks for your time.

Look into web services. They are easy to create and work fine in a LAN environment. You can pass datasets to and from a web service. They make working with xml easy.
how vital enterprise application are for proactive organizations leveraging collective synergy to think outside the box and formulate their key objectives into a win-win game plan with a quality-driven approach that focuses on empowering key players to drive-up their core competencies and increase expectations with an all-around initiative to drive up the bottom-line. But of course, that's all a "high level" overview of things

According to the Microsoft Online Help: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/07wt70x2.aspx
For VB.NET, it says to declare GetFiles per below before using it. Why do you need to redeclare it in your code? I would thing that if it is part of the System.IO Namespace, it is already declared? Help, very confused.
<br />
'Namespace: System.IO<br />
'Visual Basic (Declaration):<br />
Public Shared Function GetFiles(path As String) As String()<br />
<br />
'Visual Basic (Usage):<br />
Dim path As String<br />
Dim returnValue As String()<br />
returnValue = Directory.GetFiles(path)<br />

No, it doesn't. The Declaration is only there for reference in passing parameters and what the return value, if any, is going to be. Don't include the Declaration code in your own code.

I have the GetFiles method working correctlynow, thanks. GetFiles reutrns the complete path, not just the file name. Searching the help, there does not seem to be a method that just returns the file name.
My goal is to prepend the file names per the users input in a textbox. What would be the best way to do this? Since the file name returned by GetFiles includes the entire path, is there an easy way to extract just the file name, modify it and resave it?
Thanks.

There is nothing that will return just the filename. You have to parse each filepath to get the name. This is easily doen with the Path[^] class.
Dim fn As String = Path.GetFileName(Fully Qualified Path)

This is for VS 2003 and it looks like it has changed for VS2005. Here is some code to get you started. Look on MSDN for more class documentation.
Dim email As New System.Web.Mail.MailMessage<br />
Dim EmailSrv As System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail<br />
email.To = "youremail@yourcompany.com"<br />
email.From = "youremail@yourcompany.com"<br />
email.BodyFormat = Web.Mail.MailFormat.Html<br />
email.Body = "Testing"<br />
email.Subject = "Test Email"<br />
EmailSrv.SmtpServer = "email.yourcompany.com"<br />
EmailSrv.Send(email)

For VS2005, use the System.Net.Mail namespace instead. The System.Web.Mail namespace has been deprecated.

Does this approach require a Mail Server running on the same machine as the application?
|
|
|
|

No. You supply the DNS name or IP address of a valid SMTP server to the SmtpClient[^] class.

Thanks for the answer. But my development platform is vb 6.0 and not VB.Net

You should have mentioned that in the original post. VB.NET is usually assumed if nothing is said about which version you're using.
You can use the MAPISession[^] and MAPIMessages[^] ActiveX controls to do this. I don't have any example code on how to use them though. A simple Google for "vb6 mapisession mapimessages" reveals this[^] list of possibilities.
