Hi everydbody,
I'm developing a VB.NET 2003 application and I need to include in my layout a table that I can dynamically set row/col spanning to, like in the HTML tables. I've taken a look to the datagrid control, but it obviously doesn't have those properties. So, what I need is somebody who can give me a hint on how to program this, or if somebody knows of a control developed by someone on the web that has this functiontality please, provide a link.
I've thought, for the developing option, that maybe a panel based table could help me out achieving this, but yet I'm not sure. So, I'm open to any ideas.
Thanks in advance,
Kenia

If you have found examples in C#, use a code converter to convert the code to VB.NET.
ALternatively, learn C#. Then you'll understand the examples, no matter what language they're written in.

I have a form with a databound combobox. When the form is instructed to close, for some reason, the selectedindexchanged event decides to fire, which causes some undesirable results. There is nothing in the close event handler except a call to show the owner of the form being closed.
What can I do to stop this event from processing, or at least prevent the code in the event from running on form close?

Could it be the combobox clears its items just before the form closes? Possibly as part of the disposing process?

Yes, you can use the File handling APIs to rewrite the files on disk thus modifying the application.

Can u tell me any link or website where i can get detailed information about File handling APIs.
Thanks in Advance.
Experience is the sum of all the mistakes you have done.

Hi,
You can do this by using the Find Method of RichTextBox. Below is the code snippet for the same.
BEGIN CODE
PrivateSub btnFind_Click(ByVal sender AsObject, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim startindex AsInteger = 0
If txtSearch.Text.Length > 0 Then
startindex = FindMyText(txtSearch.Text.Trim(), start, rtb.Text.Length)
EndIf
' If string was found in the RichTextBox, highlight it
If startindex >= 0 Then
' Set the highlight color as red
rtb.SelectionColor = Color.Red
' Find the end index. End Index = number of characters in textbox
Dim endindex AsInteger = txtSearch.Text.Length
' Highlight the search string
rtb.Select(startindex, endindex)
' mark the start position after the position of
' last search string
start = startindex + endindex
EndIf
End Sub
END CODE
Hope this helps .

Try with windows registry methods such as
GetFromRegistry and SetRegistry so to retain the default values.

I have a vb.net application.
I wanted to export data to Excel from a DataViewGrid
I was able to do it by creating a stream an having vbTab between each data item
Now I want to set the Wrap Text property to True of the newly created file.

Hi,
I have a doubt whether is it possible to create an object on another Thread. I'll explain with an example:
<br />
<br />
Public Class GSM<br />
Private m_Port As SerialPort<br />
Public response As String<br />
<br />
Public Sub OpenPort(ByVal PortName As String)<br />
Try<br />
m_Port = My.Computer.Ports.OpenSerialPort(PortName, 115200, Ports.Parity.None, 8, Ports.StopBits.One)<br />
Catch ex As Exception<br />
'handle exeption<br />
End Try<br />
End Sub<br />
<br />
Public Sub ClosePort()<br />
m_Port.Close()<br />
End Sub<br />
<br />
Public Function IsOpen() As Boolean<br />
Return m_Port.IsOpen<br />
End Function<br />
<br />
Private Sub write(ByVal mText As String)<br />
m_Port.Write(mText)<br />
End Sub<br />
<br />
Private Sub Read()<br />
response = m_Port.ReadExisting<br />
End Sub<br />
<br />
End Class<br />
<br />
This is my object GSM and now I want to use it on with my form so :
<br />
Dim myGSM as GSM<br />
myGSM = New GSM<br />
myGSM.OpenPort("COM1")<br />
but if I want to use it in several parts of my code it will be a mess trying to launch it on seperates threads. So is there a way to tell visual that this object GSM is a seperate thread itself ... so I will only have to write MyGMS.write("blabla") from my form?
thank for the help ...
