This is one of the more documented problems you encounter with Crystal Reports. All you need to do is a little reading of these[^] to get your answer.

OK. After taking a look at your code, I'd say scrap it and rewrite it in a more organized fashion, modeling it from this example[^].

Dear All
I am using public form to handle the current form in the mdiform
like
Public frm As windows.forms.form
and then assign it to a form using the following lines
frm = New Form1
frm.MdiParent = Me
frm.Show()
and usually calling common sub included in every form
but vb2008 shows and error while debugging before run the application checks the included sub in the public form before assigning a form to it and shows
"sub name " is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form
could anyone help me to avoid this error or show me an alternative way.

The error indicates that the subroutine is not found in the object your trying to call it from.
I presume your subroutine is implemented in the Form1 object ?? You can either cast it or change the form variable to Form1 insteast of Windows.Forms.Form
Public frm As Form1
frm.YourSubroutine()
Or using your exisiting code, replace the call to the subroutine as
(frm as Form1).YourSubroutine()

This doesn't work because you created a normal (nothing on it) instance of a Form class. If you already have a form defined, you should be creating an instace of THAT form, not System.Windows.Form.

Hello,
I am looking for the methodology to develop the program (preferably webservice) to allow the multiple users on the LAN , to have the certain permission based access on the storage media (like westren digital mybook that connects to the usb port of the computer) ,
so that every user has a purticular quota on the storage media and no body else can access
their folder as well.
need some guidence in this regard.

So what's with the web service?? What's is it supposed to do??
This is normally done through proper use of NTFS permissions. And it's something that you just set once and forget about it. This is typcially done by LAN Administrators when they setup a new user ID. A directory is also created in a share that houses everyones home directories, then the NTFS permissions are set to allow only that user and the administrators access to it.

Well the problem is you can do that stuff in case of some domain setup , but it is not the case here. The thing here is to create the type of application that can do the job .

NTFS permissions are still set the same way, domain or no. Your problem is that in a workgroup setup, each machine maintains it's own set of accounts and no machine trusts the accounts of another. So...
I still have no idea what a web service has to do with this or what you're ultimately trying to accomplish. Your description doesn't make much sense.

Okay, so I can connect to my locally running MSSQL database with VB.Net, not a problem. However, what if I would like to deploy this program to other machines, and still wish for them to be able to connect with my DB? Is this possible? Thanks for any help in advance.

Well I've figured out that I need to use ODBC, but I'm not sure how to format the connection string to look at an IP or the like...
|
|
|
|
|
You should be able to use ADO.Net, and the SqlClient namespace classes to do what you want. I would only use the ado.net odbc provider if you think you might someday change to a different database engine. In any case, connection strings for either can be found here[^]

That was helpful, thanks. I did eventually figure it out. I had to enable TCP/IP connections from external networks and open some ports, but now its working. Thanks!

say i want to slow down my computer to eventually kill it. in a slow way i wud like to create a buffer overflow how can i do this by coding it in vb??
|
|
|
|

In light of your other question, noone is going to help you do this. On top of that, just creating a buffer overrun does NOT slow down the machine.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to open the case and drop a brick on the motherboard? Please, try it and tell us what the results were!

You're truely an idiot. Do you really think anyone around here is going to help you write a virus?? Did you know that in the United States, doing so is a federal crime??

Thankfully, this is true. Hopefully, it'll stay that way!

Aiding someone in a crime, makes you partially responsible. Here in the Netherlands you can get up to four years in prison, just for giving a helpful answer to this post.
