I have DELL LATITUDE D810. I did formatting. I installed WinXP SP3.
I installed all the drivers and when checking them in the "Device Manager" , all drivers seen to be installed.
But the network card and the wireless icon never shows in the end of the toolbar near the clock and date.
Also when i goto "View Network Connections" nothing found (not the network card nor the wireless icon).
When i click refresh (F5 button) a windows shows and says the following: " The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine.
Please make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and running."

I get to Services through Services and Applications, and started the service "Network Connections".

Going back to "View Network connections" , i can see the network card and wireless icons. when i restart the laptop, EVERY THING GOES BACK AS IT WAS BEFORE. No network card and wireless icon.

ANY HELP.

There are many possible reasons that a service won't start.
Are there any entries in the event log?

I have developed an application with multi language support, in which I am using CHOOSECOLOR structure and custom dialog to display colordialog. The issue is that the dialog is comming only in english when I change to other language. But it is present in all other language resource dlls. Can any one suggest some solutions how I can debug this issue.

Custom 404 error message

Hey Guys,

When I insert an incorrect domain then I get a 404 error page.
If I have google toolbar installed then it offers me a search option.

I am interested in neither. I want to set the domain that my internet explorer goes to if I visit a domain that does not exist.

Does anyone have a clue how this can be acheived?

If I go to internet explorer and try to visit the following domain:

www.afajsoifjaoigjasodjodsifjosaijfdsadfk.com

I get a 404 error page that the domain does not exist.

If I have the goolgetoolbar installed then google offers me to search there search engine and also suggests other domain names that do exist.

I want to know how this is done? Can I set another domain name that internet explorer goes to if the domain does not exist?

Stability, reliability?

I was looking at Windows Updates and saw that the XP sp3 (has been) out. How long and is it safe/reliable to install?

It's out since half a year and I would say it's safe. I have updated 50 computers without problems.
Standard precautions, such as a backup, apply as always.

I know it sounds weired, but when I build and install XPe, it does not contain "shutdown.exe". Where can I find it from the component list?

AFAIK, it does come with XPe. Under other versions of Windows, it's normally found under the system32 folder.

I knew it would be deployed in "System32", but my XPe does not have it. BTY, I built and deployed my own XPe. Everytime I need to manually grab it from another XP (not XPe!!!) installation.

It is part of the Misc. Command Line Tools component, located under Software / Systems / System Services / Base.

one account password i forgot and I need some file from that user file. But I can't Access. It showing Access Denied. How can i take.
if I delete Account can i get that file.

2. My friend done d: partition . In that one important file is there Can take back.

So, login as the other admin account and change the password on the 1st account.

No, you can't. Deleteing an account does not make it's files and folders fair game to any other account. But, if you login as a different Admin level account, you will have access to the locked accounts files.

Hi, I have an application which I launch.This application then has a login window where I input the login details before I can select the anything from the application menu.

I need to make an ms-dos command that will launch the application,and pass the login parameters that are specified in the command to login window.

are you sure there's no simpler way ?

you could write an application that does a findwindow to locate the login window, then 'posts' data to the controls etc - a bit of googling and looking here on CP should reveal all the techniques

I searched and found a findwindow function but i don't believe it is for vb.net. Is there a any such thing in vb.net?

which application is it. check whether it has any command line interface. through which you can pass the username and password.

VMWare and Visual studio 2008 what is it doing differently when it's a c# winform debug build vs a release build? [modified]

I'm having an issue with VMWare workstation, I'm developing inside a virtual machine with VS2008.

I've tried the vmware forums but the mention of a specific app vs2008 scares away any replies and it's definitely an issue with vs2008.

Periodically and for no apparent reason about 1 *debug* build in 3 causes the whole virtual machine to temporarily freeze for 10 to 15 seconds. By freeze I mean it becomes entirely unresponsive, if I have task manager running and performance monitor it freezes, everything freezes.

It happens just as it logs in the output a call to csc.exe or sometimes sgen.exe or sometimes compiling the license files lic...something. Usually it's in csc.exe.

After 10 to 15 seconds it suddenly springs into life again as if nothing happened.

What's odd is it *never* happens in a release build.

Now what's even odder is I vaguely recall having this same problem a while back when I was not in a virtual machine, during debug and run I would periodically see nothing happening, my app wouldn't launch and though it seems like voodoo if I moved the mouse around a bit it would suddenly launch the app in debug mode. Like it was stuck or something, though in that case the whole machine was never locked up, just vs itself.

If I turn on the debugging log for the vmware workstation I get a whole bunch of identical error entries that cover the period it froze for exactly. Entries like this:

Which is unfortunately not documented anywhere.

There are no other problems at all with the virtual machine, I can put any kind of load on it, performance is excellent it's only that exact moment when doing a debug build in vs2008. I use the machine heavily for all manner of things there's no doubt it's down to vs2008 itself.

Which leads me to believe something unusual is happening during the debug build but I can't pin down what exactly might be going on at that moment that is different than a release build.

Anyone have any ideas?
