Hello all,
* A windows XP computer has:
1. Lost the desktop wallpaper.
2. Lost the contents of the desktop.
3. Changed the title bar height.
4. Changed the default colours. i.e. the selection in the start menu is now gray and not blue, menues are darker and old fashioned, dialog backgrounds are darker (like the old win95 days).
5. Microsoft Security Essentials has not started at the beginning automatically.
6. The quick launch bar has also disappeared and when I try to make it appear again, it tells me: "Impossible to create taskbar".
* I have:
1. Started a complete scan with Microsoft Security Essentials.
* Extra information:
When I installed that computer several time ago, I used a username and now there is another user that uses that computer, so I changed the original user name for the second user... and with the information that I have today I must say that "without touching anything" (stop laughing please) all those things have happened...
Now every single folder that had relation to the user seems to be lost there... Quick launch doesn't work, desktop contents are not visible, start menu contents have been lost, sizes, fonts and colors have been broken...
* Question:
What could have happened?
* SOLUTION APPLIED:
- Copied the user profile...
- Removed the user from the system.
- Created a new user.
- Restored the data.
- It works...
Any idea?
Thank you in advance!

Different user profiles perhaps?
Does more than one person log in to the computer in question? If more than one person is logging into the machine with the same user login credentials then anybody could have changed the settings.

Thank you slacker007 for your feedback, anyway, there is only one user that can access that computer, moreover is an inexperienced user that does not know how to change those things...

Does this user leave their computer "un-locked"? and if so, is it possible that someone was trying to teach them a lesson by changing their settings? I only bring this up because it seems that most of the things that changed on this computer are visual/personal settings changes and I have seen this type of "prank" done before on someone who left their computer "un-locked".
[Edit] Just read your extra information and I am at a loss now.

It is a small company and the computer is the one from the pointy haired boss... so I guess no-one has made a prank here...
It seems that the windows has lost the connection between the original user name path and the current user name path... it is strange...
I've created a new user and everything works like charm...

That's an Etch-a-sketch[^].
Sounds to me like the User Hive in the registry of that particular user went corrupt. And you solved it the same way I would have.

Is there a way to make a list in MDaemon show all the recipients on the email?
ie.. When the list sends a mail to its list of email addresses, each recipient will see all the people receiving the email in the "to" header. This behavior is available in outlook but I cannot find it in MDaemon. Nor have I found any answer on the net.

Hello all,
I've looked into the logs (event viewer) and I've seen under System that at 22:01 LiveUpdate was started (symantec Backup exec is installed there). The next message is at 6:05:32 in which I can read:
The last shutdown was not expected. in order to get more information go to this link (which don't provide extra help).
I've looked at other places in the same event viewer without luck... Any idea on how to get more information about an unexpected shut down?
This has happened two times in a week and everyone here is worried.
Thank you in advance!
PS: No power cuts involved... it seems that spooler is behaving in the wrong way as each time it happens a message telling that spooler is failing appears...
How would you check what it is happening?
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for your feedback!

What could be the reason...
Windows XP.
One virtual machine.
Each day I can see that the computer clock is wrong and some times if I try to synch it with the internet time I can't as the date is wrong... If I set the date again to the right date I can synch time.
It is a new installation... I'm sure that no virus are there... No strange processes running...
What would you look at?
Thank you in advance!
It seems the internal battery has died...
Time to change it...

try checking Auto Adjust Time ... in time zone checkbox

Thank you for your answer... I've found the reason why it happened... it seems the battery has died...

Hi all,
Kindly please, anybody to assist on the following:
We have a small office with windows server 2008 and eight work stations. We have also IP PBX , Modem for internet from the ISP, a cyberoam, wireless access point and a switch. We usually take Backup from the server weekly to the external hard drive. We want to move to a new office with our ICT equipments and the Data so that we have the same information to a new office. Now, i need an advise on the following:
1. How to move our Data . We were thinking to have two external disks to copy the information-same Data to each disk one will go to our Headquarters for Backup and the other will use in our new office
2. How to best move the equipments-i know that i will do wiring again to the new office-will i need to do the configuration again or each and everything will still be the same as the old??? anybody to share experience
Will appreciate for your ideas
regards,
Yusufu.

1. Take backup as usual. Move all your computers and server to the new location. Voila.
2a. Contact your ISP and find out if it is as simple as just bringing the modem to the new location or if you need different equipment.
2b. Take notes on the wiring between your networking devices.
2c. Shutdown all network devices and move to the new location.
2d. Connect all devices according to the notes you made earlier.
That's it.

Thank you very much for your support

keep every thing as it is, but just do enhancements and cabling management and all stuff u wished to do before.
don't forget to clean the dust inside the work stations with the blower, it is your chance.

Hey guys, I've got a Windows 7 64-bit edition on a Quad Core, and also have Windows XP installed. On XP, everything runs fine, but if I use Messenger on Win7, there's a slight problem.
If I have 2 chats open in tabs (using Plus!), then if someone says something in one chatbox and I switch to see it, it appears as if the moment I switched, the person just sent the message, no matter how old the message may be. However, once I've seen the message and I switch to another chat or program window and come back to it, it's fine. It only happens when I have multiple chat tabs and messenger alerts me of unseen messages. It works fine if I only have a single person's window open (i.e. no tabs). I haven't tried switching tabs off, I suspect it will work but I'll check and report back. This also reminds me, I've noticed that if I type fast, then the letters appearing onscreen are SLIGHTLY sluggish. It's barely noticeable, but it's there. I noticed especially when I rubbed and replaced the character with a new one.
On XP everything runs fine.
I've posted elsewhere too, but so far no replies. Other people have also reported similar stuff but nobody has a proper solution.
Any ideas?
Thanks
