A while ago I attempted posting my first CodeProject Article. Sadly my article got rejected, accompanied by rather negative/dismissive comments, not all though.
I then proceeded to post my article and sample source code on MSDN, to date the stats indicates the sample source code being downloaded around 400 times. In other words, a potential 400 page views that could have gone towards CodeProject.
My question being: Are there any concrete rules defined around whether or not to reject an article?

Hi Dewald,
Thanks very much for your inquiry. Sometimes articles are rejected because they cover ground already well-trodden. While we appreciate the efforts of all authors, we do try to keep content fresh on CodeProject (which, admittedly, is difficult to ensure with community approval).
We're always happy to look over your idea before you begin writing, or even have you work with a CodeProject Mentor if your article needs a little boost. You could even post your article idea in this forum and get some feedback from the community. We're very happy to work with you to get your article topics chosen, and your articles approved and posted.
Thanks,
Sean Ewington

Same happened to me the other week-end. It was about writing a custom iterator with Boost.Iterator. The reviewer was friendly but rejected, and no one could give me a direction to improve the article for which it would be accepted. The person also wasn't a c++ guy (his articles are more math oriented with vb and a little bit c#). Oth there is much 'spam' on this site, so if my article was in that category than it's probably best not to get published.

Post it again, keep it in the composing state and reach out to Sean to get a mentor involved. That way, a mentor can take a look at it and offer encouragement/advice.

I am thinking on doing a series of articles on installing Apache HTTP Server, PHP, MySQL, Apache Tomcat, etc on a portable device (e.g. a USB flash drive). What section would that fit in? Web Development --> Applications and Tools?

For this moment we can post an article as an alternative to one posted article.
But how to post an alternative article to multiple articles? Is it possible?
|
|
|
|
|
It's not possible I'm afraid. You could always post it as an alternative to one and then include links to the others in your article.

To display a class icon? Typing in "property" displays the Property Icon,
Typing in "method" displays the methods icon, but what word I use for
the CLASS ICON? Right now I am currently using ul class="namespace"
for the icon which I know is wrong. Typing in "class" does not work.
So what word would I use?
Thanx in advance!

Although I don't understand your question I'm pretty sure it's in the wrong forum. If this is a programming question please move it to one of the programming forums otherwise you might want to clarify the context if this has anything to do with an article.

This is a unordered list with a class property. In between the quotes you
have to type something in there like "property", "method" etc. "property"
shows the property icon, and "method" shows the method icon. I want the
word for the class icon if one exists. It would look like this
(look at the subject line, the html code at the end). In between
the quotes in the line class="???????????", what goes here. and YES this
is for a article and it is the html unordered list control.
<ul class="class"></ul> does not work.

I am going with the <ul class="namespace"></ul> as this icon looks more right than wrong.
THANX for the help CP article mentors.
I would still like to know what does go in the quotes for future reference!
I imagine there are a lot of other writers that would like to know also.
Once again thanx for the help.

To be fair - the question he was asking was related to writing articles. In an article, it's possible to show a class hierarchy like this:

Thanks, the original question did not make that terribly clear.

Hi guys,
I am currently working on a project which will make dev's life easier if it comes out as it is supposed to be (Currently, it is not even close to working, neither to be even compiled).
To present the basic ideas of the project, I wrote this little Tip/Trick[^]. My question is now: Can this already be submitted as Tip/Trick or should I wait until I got the whole thing finished and publish it as a full-featured article?
|
|
|
|
|
I reckon that's up to you but from the look of it I would have said there's a full article in there.
I find one of the most valuable things about writing a CP article is that it makes you no only get the implementation correct but push on all the way to a reasonably polished item.
I'm a problem solver so once the algorithmic or technical problem is solved to my satisfaction it's hard to raise the motivation to go on working on the same thing. Getting to the point of being able to publish gives me that extra push to make something useful rather than just proving a point.

I know, the full article will be published anyways, I am working on the implementation and 70 % of the class code is written...
I am more the kinda guy who first finishes the code and then present the code polished in an article to the community. I want to share the basic idea of what I do in the Tip/Trick and make kind of a series out of it (first comes the idea presented in the Tip/Trick and afterwards I present the polished and well-descripted code in an article).
