I'm reading up on the ajax documentaiton and had a question on partial page updates...
1) So do partial page updates only target controls that reside within an Update Panel?
2) Even if a partial page update occurs, isn't a postback really truely occurring behind the scenes? Your browser doesn't appear to do a full postback and blink, but I'm guessing it is still doing a postback.
Thanks

I am confussed by what you mean with this.

That's the point and beauty of Ajax is that it is behind the scenes. To view the 'response' from the server when an Ajax is being used use a Firefox add-on called Firebug. Example Screenshot.[^]

Ajax will target whichever html tag you want it to. I would recommmend looking at javascripts innerhtml before trying to dive into ajax.

Hello,
can anyone enlighten me why Internet Explorer 8 doesn't display the main page of my website http://keepass.info/[^] correctly?
On that page there's a table with two cells, one containing left-aligned text (news items), the other has fixed size and contains a right-aligned image. Although the width of the right cell is specified explicitly, IE8 assigns an extremly large size to it. The width is specified using a HTML attribute, but I've also tried a CSS style, which didn't change anything.
Mozilla Firefox and Opera display the page perfectly. It also validates 100% as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
Best regards
Dominik

Tables should only be used for displaying data and not for position elements.
Use div's and CSS instead as it is how it's ment to be done.

I've now fixed it by using a single cell.

Hello,
I have some difficulties to do something : I search a javascript code or a Webcontrol (asp.net 2.0) able to do a notification in bottom right of the window's browser like msn when you receive a email.
For example :
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/WPF_TaskbarNotifier/wpftaskbarnotifier.gif[^]
Do you know a source code ?
Thank you a lot.

i know a framework. There are many. personally I prefer jquery. You'll have to do the putting it together yourself though.
CSS to position.
Ajax (jQuery) to check for new mails and
if there is a new mail
Jquery to animate a box to slide up with a link inside

Hi Guys,
I got a big issue.
That i have developed an application based on cookie.
But my clients gave me feedback its not functioning in their browser.
I found that it may be a cookie problem.
I want to know how to enable the browser support of cookie.
For example, my IE is not supporting the cookie for that
i need to check with the browser settings for the cookie or javascript support.
So i want to enable the cookie support the client browser programatically
instead of doing manually.
Pls help me for this issue in javascript or c#
Regards
Muni

Yes you do. You are using technology that you have not studied and therefor do not understand. That results in problems about 99.9% of the time. If you are interested in addressing that issue, click here[^]

Hi,
I have a web service that is being accessed by Perl scripts using SOAP::Lite. Simple code below:
use SOAP::Lite;
my $soap = SOAP::Lite
-> uri('http://tempuri.org')
-> on_action( sub { join '/', 'http://tempuri.org', $_[1] } )
-> proxy('http://localhost:8080/TestApp/WebService1.asmx');
$soap->deserializer(SOAP::Custom::XML::Deserializer->new);
print $soap->HelloWorld()->result;
Now, if I run this script, as you may have guessed already... I should get the output:
Hello World
This is correct if my <sessionState mode="Off" ...> , however, if I set it to <sessionState mode="InProc" ...> , I am getting the entire HTML file that is the same as right-clicking and viewing the source of the .asmx page when you open it via a web browser:
mismatched tag at line 61, column 16, byte 2939 at C:/Perl/lib/XML/Parser.pm line 187
<html>
<head><link rel="alternate" type="text/xml" href="/WebService1.asmx?disco" />
...
<style type="text/css">
</style>
<title>
WebService1 Web Service</title>
</head>
<body>
<div id="content">
<p class="heading1">WebService1</p><br>
<span>
<p class="intro">The following operations are supported. For a formal definition, please review the <a href="WebService1.asmx?WSDL">Service Description</a>. </p>
...
<a href="WebService1.asmx?op=HelloWorld">HelloWorld</a>
...
</div></body>
</html>
at WSTestUsingPerl.pl line 10
Does anyone know what I can do? Of course the actual web service I have is more complex than this, I just tried adding a new .asmx file to my solution and tried to find out where in the web.config is the problem, and I found this error.
Note that the web services will work when I create a new .net app and consume this web service, or simply run the web methods via the browser. But when I use SOAP::Lite it won't (and so I assume that there might be other scripts that get the same error).
Thank you in advance for your help.

Found the problem. The problem was not in the <sessionState ... mode="InProc" ... /> but in the <sessionState ... cookieless="AutoDetect" ... /> .
Apparently, cookieless should be ="UseCookies" .
I thought "AutoDetect" should detect it properly, is this an ASP.Net bug?

Get the IP of the server.
point the domain name at that IP.
If you cannot visit the site by typing the ip in the address bar of your browser, tell the web host in case they need to do anything else.
Wait 72 hours for the dns details to propagate the internet.

Hi Guys,
I have just copied the source code below from other sites. This codes will download a textfile from ftp server with network credentials. There's no problem in this code, just want to have a some kind of "Save Dialog Box". Because right now it is hard coded "C:\Sample.txt".
How would I prompt the Save Dialog box, so that the target directory is dynamic?
Codes below:
Try
Const ftpURI = "ftp://309..."
Dim filename As String = ftpURI & "Sample.txt"
Dim client As New WebClient
client.Credentials = New NetworkCredential("anonymous", "password")
My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllBytes("C:\Sample.txt", _
client.DownloadData(filename), True)
MsgBox("File downloaded!")
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.ToString)
End Try

I know this is not "Web Development" question, but since it involves JavaScript I thought this would be the best place to post this.
I am trying to create a, Windows Vista gadget of Most Recently Used files for a specific application using the shortcut files in the Recent Files folder. Using Javascript I am able to read the files and launch the program with those files. But I also would like to be able to extract the target property (the path and name of the file it is linked to) and the modified date.
I have not found any way to do this via scripting languages and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions.

I am not sure if you can use only javascript to accomplish what you want. If you restrict your self to only IE, then you can use some Activex to do it. See here for example[^]

Oh didn't you notice, analogous to square roots, they recently introduced rectangular, circular, and diamond roots to determine the size of the corresponding shapes when given the area. Luc Pattyn[^]

Thanks,
I seem to be able to get the modified date, that way. However, I still cannot find away to get the target of a shortcut

shortcut are .lnk files. you can access shortcut files using IShellLink but I am not sure if this can be done from Javascript. see here[^]
