I use the Web Developer Toolbar extensively and also Firebug. Both confirm that the DOM placement of my textboxes is correct and in fact within the form. I just migrated the files to my localhost and it works on that perfect so I think it is an environment thing.

How can I customize the highlight color (i.e. when we select any text) in MSHTML?

Dynamic IP & Writing to the Webspace

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to remote desktop onto my PC at home, however since I have ADSL and my ISP doesnt support static IP addresses, I end up having to check my IP address before I head into work. Problem is my line is pretty rubbish, and the connection gets dropped every 4-6 hours. So i get maybe 4-6 hours out of it, then no longer have access to my home desktop.

Thinking on it, the easiest solution (Barring a Static IP) is to run a script that will automatically write my IP to my website (hosted externally).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this? Solutionising is welcome?

DynDns offers a free service that gives you a free subdomain hostname controlled by their client updater software; you simply install the software on your home PC, and it will automatically keep the IP address synced with the DynDns hostname.

hello people, here is a tricky one for you , i want to make my website be compatible with all browsers and as you know, css works on ff fine but ie totally differant ... so i tried this :

hoping that this would make my website support ff and IE , but then IE doesn't want to use that specific style sheet and moves on..... what do i do ? and have you got any other suggestions of making a website compatible with any browser ..

You should consider designing for Firefox first, when that works, then add support for MSIE last but read here 9 Most Common IE Bugs and How to Fix Them[^]

but i have designed for ff first, i just need to convert it to IE which i have got the stylesheet for all ready, just IE won't look at it

How can i randomly generate a number every (for example) 20 minutes with php?

I know how to generate a number, but i have no idea how to make it generate one every X minutes.

This may sound like an obvious answer but you just put your random number generator in a loop, and include whatever PHP command is required to sleep for 20 minutes each time around the loop.

Sorry no, I guess you have to find some way of checking the time every so often and after twenty minutes call your generator function.

I suggest you take the initial idea and find a way to create another process to do the other tasks that need to be done...I other words, you'll perform the update the time and sleep for 20 mins on one process thread and on the other thread you'd perform the remaining tasks.

Good Morning,

I am trying to write a simple time out javascript to accompany an ASP.net application. The default time out for the application is 20 minutes. Currently, when it does time out, it reverts to an ugly error page. I would rather that it either logs the user off or simply sends him to the login or index page. Although I have found some very seemingly simple samples, I cannot get anything to work. I do not know if it makes a difference, but I am using an internal (<Iframe>) to rotate pages within a main page. I do not why that should make a difference since the session value is based on the session and not the page. Either way, I have tried posting the script on both the Main page that displays the frame and on the inserted frame page as well. It makes no difference. These are the two scripts that I have tried:

Style 1 is supposed to give the option to take the user to a new page if it is not responded to:

I tried setting the second one for just a minute just to see if it would work. It doesn't. Following is the setting that is deployed on the web.config page in the ASP.net applcation (and it does time out in 20 minutes):

The following javascript will simply run in background and redirect the user whereever you want - (The '3000' value is in milliseconds.)

Note this method is client side and works on the users browser. Clients can sometimes turn off javascript.. server side maybe needed.

I won't go into the server side options here - too many! This codeproject article however is excellent for giving you a through introduction:

I think where you're having problems is the iframe though. Your time condition needs to sit on either one or the other. In your case I would suggest the main page - the parent page to the iframe. Set a timer - client or server side here and the child iframe will have to inherit the command.
