You might think to say that in the original post - it tends to foster a warmer reception than your approach in this instance.

Perhaps something along the lines of:

"Can anybody check this for me?
I placed 2 hrefs inside a single tag, and I'd like to know which one will be followed when the link is clicked.
When I tried it, using IE(versionNumber) the first link was followed.

I'm hoping to determine if this is consistent behavior."

While I don't believe it to be the case, or your intention - your method of questioning feels a little sneaky. (it also raises in some people's mind the question of laziness - i.e did he/she really try themselves?)

This is incorrect usage, you can only have one href attribute in an anchor; see here[^].

Don't do that.
The HTML standard clearly say that for each property there must be ONE value.

Doing that differently will you run in the so called "undefined behavior".

Undefined behavior is not "random behavior", simply what you get is anymore granted by whatever specification, hence every different program may respond differently now or in the future.

Testing yourself (and asking to repeat the test) doesn't provide any demonstration: the fact that you find even 100% consistence proves nothing;
tomorrow morning whatever developer can create a new browser (or a new version of an existing one) dong it differently.

I am exporting data from MySQL to excel using php.

One field is having embeding code for video(with HTML tags)
for eg. embedding code of youtube.com

all fields data is exporting to excel perfectly but this video field is coming blank.

for eg. try to export embed code of this page from mysql to excel

blank is coming in excel

When I am importing from excel to mysql its working fine.

Plzzz Help.

Without seeing your code, it's a bit hard to tell.

Have you tried to read the field and output it to the browser, to ensure that it is being read correctly?

Also, will your method of output to excel handle the intended data? Can you manually put data into this field(or should I say- the representation of it in your php code) and have it transfered to excel?

Hi,

I'm looking for a product or technical solution that enables my customer to dynamically create advanved forms and display them on the web. Besides that it should be able to store alle the data in a database facilitating future datamining and repopulation of forms when the user returns. By advanced forms it should besides all basic controls be able to handle multipage forms and conditionale elements.

The enviroments consists of a CMS that is contentfueled by a sharepoint server. It's not a must that the forms a born in the sharepoint, but just a possibility.

I've primarily been looking at Microsofts Infopath, but I'm in doubt whether it really can get the job done.

Any of you have any input on infopath, a product or a technical solution that can solve this, in my opionion, very common need?

progress bar animation (processing.gif) in sync and async mode

Hi,

I use both sync and async modes.
Before starting any ajax request i display a processing(rotating) gif icon to show that the request is in progress.
when i get the response i will hide the animating gif to show that the process has completed.
this works fine with async and sync mode of ajax in FF but not in IE.

If i use sync mode. that is AJAX.open('GET','path.php',false); in IE the gif file is not visible
because IE is not displaying it. Basically this is also correct because that is the way sync is meant to.
If it is sync mode then no other process will take place until the browser gets the response.
Were as in async mode the request is threaded so other processes are not affected.

But FF displays the animated gif for both the modes of ajax. and IE displays the animated gif only for async request.
If anybody know the reason behind then please post your replies. 'cause i have simplified most of my projects by using sync mode of ajax.
But in IE the progress (processing) animation is not visible so the user will not know what is happening till the browser gets the response.

So, i hope that i have to stick with async mode. in sync mode you can write code in a few lines and it is very easy to have various type of functions which could return bool, array, object etc... since you get the result in the LHS... but that is not the case in async mode... we need to do a lot of gimmick to have a prototype of ajax...

also if i could have references to sites which explains ajax in complete detail then i will update my idea of ajax.

? firefox bookmarket script to list urls across frames

Hi, the following Firefox bookmarklet script was supposed to list URLs across all of the frames in the currently loaded web page, but produces nothing more than the heading and the Firefox STOP button has to be clicked to stop it running. (Needless to say, as a bookmarlket it's all on one line in a button in the bookmarks toolbar). Any suggestions on what's going wrong ?

Hello All,

I need to be able to set an href property of an anchor tag to a javascript i.e. <code> <a id="blah" href='this is where i've been told to have Javascript'"</code> This javascript is suppose to mimick a mouse click event. Can someone show me an example of how to go about doing that. I have barely used Javascript and not too familiar with it. Any help would be higly appreciated. Thanks

Minimizing the traffic

I want to minimize the traffic as much as possible.

Since most of the traffic is in plain text, I think compressing the traffic will help.

This is the idea I came up with:

1. WebBrowser creates a request to the web server, The request will be send through the Proxy Program on the computer.
2. Proxy program on the computer compresses all the requests to be made to the web server, and sends it to "MyProxy.php" on my server.
3. "MyProxy.php" decompresses the request and sends it to the web server. "MyProxy.php" recieves the response from the web server, compresses it, and returns it to the Proxy Program on the computer.
4. The Proxy Program decompresses the response and returns it to the WebBrowser.
5. The WebBrowser shows the response to the user.

Do you think that's a good idea?
Would it minimize the traffic by any percent?

I presume you mean minimize the amount of bandwidth you are using. D'Oh! | :doh:

There are several things you can do:
- Implement Caching. Give cached content as long a life as possible.
- Implement Compression
- Minify JavaScripts
- If there are any images, optimise them.
- Move as much content as possible onto alternate content hosts.
- Use a tool such as the PageSpeed or ySlow plugins in FireFox to identify other bandwidth hogging areas.

... If you actually did mean "minimize the traffic", then just turn off the web server. Smile | :)

I guess I know those things. You're looking at the problem from the server's point of view. Look at it from client's point of view. I want to minimize the amount of traffic for my computer(not for server) as Internet Providers in my country charge a lot for bandwidth tariffs.

Please review my idea once more. Would that be any help in my case?
