It depends on what you want to do.
However, it sounds like you need to read up a lot on CRM before doing anything else. It is not something to just jump in and start programming against.
Have a look for the CRM SDK (basically you have to do everything using that).
We use about 4 related projects that we share through source control and develop on our own machines.

user needs to be able to log in and be directed to a gallery that is specific to that log in. The admin needs to be able to change these id's periodically as well.
The biggest issue for me is how am I going to redirect to a specific directory on their site without having the address be http://mysite.com/gallery1 or http://mysite.com/gallery2 and have the directory only be accessible by people with the correct login.
thx,

It depends what environment you are working with. ASP.NET has built-in security such as this. PHP, you'll have to find some code or do it yourself.

Sorry, I should have put that in the original post. I'm pretty sure it's a linux server which means PHP.

Hi guys and gals. I currently have a site that is secured with SSL and is viewed through a non secured frame http://blah/main.html loads https://app.blah.com/ and i'm fairly certain everything is secure.
What i want to do now is have a https://secure.blah.com/main.html which loads http://newApp.blah.com/ I just have no idea if newApp will be secure or not even though the frame that loaded it is using SSL.
I know using https for newApp would work, but we have to host app and newApp at the same time and dont want to buy a ssl cert for the newApp site while we phase out app. There are some other reasons why the boss doesnt want to buy the ssl certs for newApp, but if it wont be secure otherwise we may not have a choice.
Our users were complaining bout not having a padlock show up in the browser when they logged in, even though the login and every page past it was using https.
Any help or suggestions on how to make this work would be appreciated.
John

Does your company own blah.com? You can get certificates that work on *.blah.com. If you don't use an https URL for newApp all data sent to and from newApp will NOT be secure. A secure frames page is pretty useless. It's like putting a deadbolt on a sliding glass door and removing the glass. The door frame is secure, but nothing that goes through it is secure.

Yeah we own it, like i said the only reason we want the secure frame is to appease the users, and some other people, by having the lock show up in the browser. Does anybody have an article or something that talks about this, i dobut they'll just take my word for it.
Thanks for the good answer btw.

Bit of a no-brainer isn't it.
To be secure you have to use SSL, and hosting the real unsecured app inside a secure frame will not do the job. It's all about server communication not what shows in the browser.
On another post I see you only want it to look secure to appease some people. Well, the same holds. If it is secure it is secure, if it is not then you should not pretend. To use the example on another reply, that would be like putting a photo of a padlock on your shed and hoping no-one realises it is not real.

I didnt think it would work the way they wanted, maybe its time to get one of those wildcard certs.
unfortunatly the people who use are site are "tech" people because they took a computer class in HS and if they dont get their lock symbol they call and complain and dont listen to reason, so now we're adding it to shut them up. I didnt know if it would work or not, it didnt seem right to me so i asked. Now i have a couple solutions, thanks for your help.

The general idea is an opt-in email system that lets people create ads in certain categories and select categories that they want to receive up-dates from when new ads are posted. I also want users to have to select at least 2 categories to receive postings from.
All ads will be approved by a person before being added to next round of emails being sent. I need to build the site, set up systems to collect and organize emails, eventually in-corporate a payment system if and when a lot of people start using it, and...program the site to respond to certain restrictions or conditions.
I have no clue where to begin, I was apprehensive about putting my idea out here but I just want to try to build it and see what happens.. advice on what exactly i need to learn to do these tasks would be awesome. i am not concerned with appearance nearly as much as functionality.
Thanks!

Firstly, make sure you fully understand the law with regards to the American Can Spam Act (and the international equivalents).
Make sure you discover and understand your requirements by doing the necessary analysis. This should give you very good clues as to the functionality required. If need be, get a good mind mapping tool (Freemind for example) so that any unstructured thoughts can be put to good use.
Database : consider those discovered requirements and normalize.
Frameworks : Look at ASP.NET and the various PHP frameworks and establish which might be a better fit.
Although functionality is important, appearance is also important. Something that looks ugly will not attract customers easily

A lot depends on your budget. You are going to have to host this thing somewhere. Your hosting account will require space for the site, space for the graphics in the ads and a database to record preferences. Space probably won't be a concern since most hosting packages offer more than most people would ever need. The database and how big that is will be the thing that is more important. You will probably want to talk to your host about your idea since mass e-mails can get a host blacklisted so taht no mail from them goes anywhere and they may have certain guidelines to follow.
Hosts usually fall into one of two categories, LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) or Microsoft. Typically Microsoft hosting is more expensive.
If you want to go the MS route you can download Microsft
Visual Web Developer Express[^]. I don't know what toolset people typically use for PHP other than notepad, but I am sure there are free tools out there.

Hi All,
I'm a nube to PHP but have done some VB scripting so thought I'd try this...
I am trying to get table information from our print servers, we have 5 all use the Microsoft Internet Printing system, which uses IIS to generate a page populated with that servers printer information through a ASP generated web page (google IPP_0001.asp) to to see the code...
My problem is that I want to extract the table information from each of the print servers (there are 5) collate all the tables into one uber table and then perform a search on that uber table to only show printers within a specific area... a standardised formatted area being one of the tables columns for each printer entry.
I have the code to perform the searches and generate the final page, but I'm struggling to generate an array populated with the html table info.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get an array populated with Html table and then displayed..
thanks in advance.

Talk to your web hoster. Perhaps they are running a different web server on port 80 and 443, the secure web service is either missconfigured or not set up for your domain name.

Do you have a certificate? Even if your host sets up the server to respond to https for your site, if you don't have an SSL cert then your users will get errors when they go to the https site.

I don't know if this can be done directly but I have a work around for this.
Here is a sample code. You need to edit a few things to work for your requirement.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title>Auto-expand SELECT</title>
<script language="JavaScript">
function ExpandSelect( intSize ) {
document.getElementById('MySelect').size=intSize;
}
</script>
<style>
.blocker {
position: absolute;
margin-top: -4px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
padding: 5px 5px;
background: #FFFFCC no-repeat -10px 5px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<b>Please choose a number:</b>
<div class="blocker">
<select onFocus="ExpandSelect(7);" onBlur="ExpandSelect(1);"
onChange="ExpandSelect(1);" name="MySelect" size="1" id="MySelect">
<option value="1" selected>One</option>
<option value="2">Two</option>
<option value="3">Three</option>
<option value="4">Four</option>
<option value="5">Five</option>
<option value="6">Six</option>
<option value="7">Seven</option>
</select>
</div>
<p> The select box should float over this text
</body>
</html>
But it's not on Enter click.
Does the drop down open up if you press enter anytime/anywhere in the form - in that case call the function on load of the body.
Does the drop down open up if you press enter when the focus is on some control - in that case call the function on key down event of that control.
In both cases, you need to check if 'Enter click' was pressed or not.
That is done using:
if(event.keyCode==13) { }
Another important thing is you need to know the size of the drop-down list.
Do some edits as instructed and you will be able to do what you want.
Hope it helps!

Following code will track the enter event on combobox, I do not know
how to expand combobox.
<script language="JavaScript">
function onenter()
{
var evt=window.event;
var Ucode=evt.keyCode? evt.keyCode : evt.charCode
if(Ucode==13)
alert("enter tracked");
}
</script>
<select onkeypress="onenter();">
<option value="1" selected>One</option>
<option value="2">Two</option>
<option value="3">Three</option>
<option value="4">Four</option>
<option value="5">Five</option>
<option value="6">Six</option>
<option value="7">Seven</option>
</select>
Hope this will help!
