Hey
Im tryng to replicate a website look to a ERP portal, and im having problems with the look of the font.
The css specification is exacly the same in the two websites.
font-family: Verdana, Arial;
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 12px;
Even using the same browser the font does not look the same; heres the picture of the current look:
top ( website) bottom ( ERP Portal ).
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/fonttest.png
As you can probably see the shape looks the same , but the font itself seems to be a little darker in the website version , same is happening to pretty much every font definition in the website.
Would like any suggestion or ideia about the cause of this and how to solve it.
Thanks

It's not easy to tell much about the CSS from an image, but it looks like the top text is antialiased and the bottom text isn't.

In a PHP page that gets all the information from MySQL and using that information it mounts a string that at the end is echoed, I've seen that the process of mounting that string is really fast, but when the echo is called then it takes several time for IE to show something.
Arrived at the point of the echo call the circle that shows that IE is doing something (loading the page basically) stops rotating and disappears as it would have finished the job. And after a little while it shows all the content...
This is not a really big issue as that page is for internal help, but I would like to make it faster, keep the circle rotating or show some progress bar until everything is loaded properly...
What would you do?
Thank you in advance!

Hello,
I'm trying to make a polygonal image map and I would avoid to make it by hand...
I've seen some image map online softwares... some of them are a mess, some of them want me to put their logo on my image, ...
What do you use when you need to do this?
Thank you!
[Edit]
I've found one here[^].
Testing it now, it seems it works well.

You should post your requirements. There are many different forumlae for what you want and some providers are stronger in one suit while weaker in another.

Asking about "top hosting companies" is like asking about "top colleges".
Yes, some are obviously better than others, and there is probably a small set of known names that you want to choose from.
HOWEVER, within that set of trustworthy, known names, the one that will be "best" for you will depend on the details of your preferences, your needs, and your goals.
And just like with a college, if your needs and desires are sufficiently outside the normal curve, the "best" hosting company for you might not be one of the ones that everyone else recommends.
So I recommend taking the advice of anything that anyone mentioned here, of course, but then using that only as a starting point for doing your own research.
The one that I would add to the list of items for you to consider: pair.com
They have a wide variety of levels, they are very "friendly" for developers (in that you can customize and tweak most installations and server settings yourself), and have good customer support.

I've abandoned... Tables make it easily...
Thank you for reading the post!
Hello,
I'm trying to create a news page.
That news page consists of a div (with a grey line on top) that occupies the whole width of the page.
Inside that div there are two divs more: on the left the time/date and on the right the new title.
Note: the layout I'm searching for is like the one you can see here[^].
OLD POST
The code I'm using is:
for ()
{
echo('<div id="News">');
echo('<div id="NewsDate">');
echo(date('d/m/Y H:i:s',strtotime($strDate)));
echo('<br><br></div>');
echo('<div id="NewsTitle">');
echo($strTitle);
echo('</div>');
echo('</div>');
}
Inside my CSS I have:
#News{
margin: 30px;
text-align:justify;
}
#NewsDate{
position: relative;
width: 160px;
}
#NewsTitle{
position: relative;
left: 161px;
}
Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I've tried to search for tutorials in the Internet, probably today I'm too sleepy or something, but I'm not getting this...
Thank you in advance!
SOLUTION APPLIED
The solution has been to change the # for . in the css file and change id to class in the HTML and creating an outer div with a specified height.
Here I'm pasting the css changes I've made:
.News{
border-top: 1px solid #DBDBDB;
width: 760px;
position: relative;
height: 40px;
}
.NewsDate{
width: 140px;
position: absolute;
top: 10px;
left: 10px;
}
.NewsTitle{
width: 599px;
position: absolute;
top: 10px;
left: 141px;
height: auto;
}
NEW PROBLEM
If you take a look at the web page[^] you will see that there are news/rows in different heights.
I'm interested on getting that behavior. The problem that I can see here is that if I remove the "height: 40px;" content in the OuterDiv, then all the text is rendered in the same line...
Any Div foo that I should be aware of? Ideas are welcome... I can't even imagine how to search that in Google...
Thank you in advance...

This is not a direct answer to your question, but a couple of friendly hints.
1. w3schools[^] is an excellent source of reference material, tutorials and online tools ("suck it and see" stuff you can play with).
2. If you haven't already, get Firefox and the FireBug extension. Go to a page you like, right click on something, select "Inspect element" and the FB console will pop up. There you can see what the element source is in the html, and what CSS applies to it (and - real bonus) where the CSS actually is.
These two have saved me hours of grief and are in no small way responsible for the fact that I've still got some (not much!) hair left.
Good hunting,
Peter

Got that too. If you do any web dev, you need a multitude of browsers. Just that FF is my weapon of choice, probably for historical reasons. But the Chrome inspector (or whatever it's called) is neat.
