Step 1: estimate for one business process which will take a bit longer as in your initial implementation, which requires RnD and vulnerable to more changes and evolves rapidly.
Step 2: estimate for more than one business processes it should require less time as you already are done the technology and design in first step, and in this step, you enhance it to implement more than one process and come up with fewer changes compare to first step.
Step 3: in third step you are in much better position to provide a complete estimate for the application considering the factor such as numbers of resources and their skills set and level, further refinement required in business process implementation methodology, technology, Tool and Framework support, time, which will be spent on gathering client requirement, deployment, documentation, team meetings, etc.

Hi,
I have tried to deploy my web application (VS2010 + C#) by adding the project output and building a msi setup. But, I want to do these steps through command prompt. Our command scripts will do all the stpes to deploy in server.
That command prompt scripts should do the following things
1. Getting latest version of my solution
2. Adding web deployment project and adding project outputs there
3. Building and deploying in a server..
How to do these things thorugh command prompt only?
Thanks in advance.

Dude, I advise you to remove the email address from your post.
You can be contacted directly through CP, so there is no need to show the world your email.

First off, I come from a background of classic VC++ and C# Winforms. It seems to me that with HTML 5, that I can get as good of an interface from the web as on the desktop. I absolutely need to be able to do general drawing, such as the Graphics object in .NET, as well the standard checkbox, listbox, dropdownbox, etc. Can this be done as well on the web these days?
I do have some experience with HTML (1.0? LOL) & ASP.NET, but I don't want to have to pay extra to support an ASP.NET website or SQL Server, so I'm looking for something that it free.
So the app I will be developing will be GUI rich, with lots of dialogs (it seems that I would need to do something different than dialogs, although maybe I can use Javascript to make such dialogs?), with some access to a DB (to authenticate the user) and to lookup some data (there will be no updating from a general user - only from me.) I'd also like to be able to monitor the IP addresses of the subscriber to make sure that they are not passing them around to other folks.
I'd also like a free or very low cost web server to host the app.
So that's it. How should I do this?
|
|
|
|
|
In strict order of asking...
Yes
Most host companies now offer LAMP, ASP or SQL etc as part of the package, so no real cost implications.
Obviously the DB checking would have to be integrated, and help on the server, it is up to you as to what is needed and implemented. IP addresses can be found easily enough (This may help[^])
As for low cost/free hosts, why not host yourself? or look at the local market, a simple google search will do it.

For HTML5 graphic objects, look at using the canvas tag. See this webpage http://www.html5canvastutorials.com/[^]
Regarding checkboxes, listbox, dropdownbox etc, they are part of HTML forms. Read this http://www.quackit.com/html/tutorial/html_forms.cfm[^]
For interactivity in webpages, have a look at the variety of Javascript Frameworks such as http://mootools.net/[^] and http://jquery.com/[^] and, for example, http://jqueryui.com/[^].
And with a sprinkling of CSS, you can achieve some brilliant results when applied to the above 3 sentences.
It is nearly always more expensive to host a site created for serving webpages from a Microsoft Windows Server. However, you can cut your hosting costs by using a Linux Server running Apache Web Server, MySQL Database and PHP scripting, and if you develop for that, your costs to acquire the software for development purposes is nil. Use the freely available cross platform XAMPP from here http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html[^]. It is unlikely you will find many hosting organizations that will allow server-side functionality for free.

I am going to self promote.
jQuery UI Alerts Dialog using ThemeRollers[^]
Also take a look at Dialogs for jQuery[^].

can you please tell me how to nest another webgrid in for my list of children? i found some c# examples but I wasn't able to get it working in my app (vb)
the code shows a table that i created with both parent and child rows, and then under the table, i have my attempt at a webgrid for just the parents.
@ModelType MyBusinessObject.ListSystemandSubSystems
@Code
Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.vbhtml"
End Code
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head runat="server">
<title>index</title>

<p>
@Html.ActionLink("Create New", "Create")
</p>

SystemName
</th>
<th>
SystemDescription
</th>
<th>
SystemLocation
</th>
<th>
SystemIP
</th>
<th>
SubSystemName
</th>
<th>
SubSystemDescription
</th>
<th>
SubSystemIPAddress
</th>
</tr>
@For Each item In Model.AllSystems
Dim currentItem = item.MySystem
@<tr>
<td>
@Html.DisplayFor(Function(modelItem) currentItem.SystemName)

<td>
@Html.DisplayFor(Function(modelItem) currentItem.SystemDescription)

For Each subsystem In currentItem.SubSystems

Anybody used (or are using) the 'Mobile Ready HTML5 MVC[^]' template from the visual studio gallery?
Just wondering, if there are any gotchas to be aware of. Thought about taking it for a spin.

Yes I was looking at their site yesterday and watching the video. I take it you are using it then?

I have been playing with it, which is usually how it works. In my free-time I play with things like this so that when the requirement comes up I can speak about it with some confidence.
one of my other side projects is Node.js[^]. I have some stuff that I would like to try html5, mobile and node.js on my own.
when I was a kid I had Tonka trucks... today I have my programming skills.

so how are you finding it? pain free (boilerplate and/or node)?

boilerplate is lacking (so you have to add) 960.gs[^] which for me is really important it.
node so far has been pretty kewl but I have only started to scratch the surface with it. I do like the whole idea behind it though.
