i'm again in trouble. Great trouble.
I have a WebUserControl written by me, in which all control rendered are dynamically generated on page_Load. It works well, so I've decided to extend it with another WebUserControl.
Public class ExtendedUserControl:MyUserControl
This mean that in this second page_load, a just-generated control is added in a collection before one of the inheriteds. It seems to work, but here begin my trouble.
I've done my WebForm for test, and the control extended is well-rendered. The problem is with the PostBack and ViewState: first it shows to me a message of Invalid_Viewstate.
I've tried to manage it by overloading SavePageStateToPersistenceMedium and LoadPageStateFromPersistenceMedium and make the __ViewState variable to be divided in packages lesser then 1024byte.
It then shows me an error of Invalid Cast in the private System.Web.UI.Page.LoadPageViewState() where I cannot either debug or do some.
It is clear the problem is with the viewState because making those methods to do nothing, the problem disappears. But the state, obviously, also was lost.
I need state functionality (as always in web form) and I don't like to go the ancient way to manage myself the state-infos. I think I don't know state-lore enought to understand what is really at work here. Should I have designed in another manner my WebUserControls? You know i don't go the common way to have the tags in aspx and the code in aspx.cs: I choose to make all in the .aspx.cs file so I can inherit from.
Are there some triks I wasn't able to find in the web? Or perhaps there are some requirement i don't know, and so don't meet?
Any help is quite appretiated and very welcome.

I have a mail script but don't know how to catch any errors so that it will display email address that failed to send. Here is my code...

Hey all,
I have a quick question, i have a form that has several buttons, when the form loads, i set my "Save" button to have focus (using document.frmEdit.btnSave.focus();) However, when i my text boxes get focus (ie when i'm typing in them) the "Add" button recieves focus. Thus if i hit return, it doesn't have the desired effect. Is there anyway that I can have the "Save" button keep focus the entire time the form is loaded?

I am a java/jsp/servlet programmer, trying to write something which you might call a WebTracker or WebMonitor.
My problem is:
"I want to create a kind of a web proxy so that
EACH url requested by a user passes through my
web application, and that I am able to save that
url somewhere."
What I have done is:
"I provide my users with a textbox in my jsp page, and
allow him/her to write a url and press "SUBMIT".Then I request that
url on the user's behalf just like a proxy server. Meanwhile, I parse
the HTML and JAVASCRIPT of the requested page and insert the url
of my webapp at the beginning. The example explains:
-- user requested: http://www.somewebsite.com
-- The request comes to my servlet, and I use an HTMLClient library to
request the url.
-- HTMLClient provides me with the HTML/Javascript/Text (whatever) stream
of the requested url.
-- Let us suppose there were links like /image_1.jpeg, http://www.url.com
and checkitout/mypage.jsp etc in stream of http://www.somewebsite.com
-- I change these links to:
** http://www.myurl.com/myservlet/http:/www.somewebsite.com/image_1.jpeg
** http://www.myurl.com/myservlet/http:/www.url.com
** http://www.myurl.com/myservlet/http:/www.somewebsite.com/checkitout/mypage.jsp"
Doing so doesn't cover all the cases. For example I can't
post data for the users and there are other problems of the like.
The web is SO heterogenous.
I think you have got the problem.
What my doubt is:

i have designed a client in JAVA to send and receive mail ,now the problem is , it(the software) is allowing only one email addr which @yahoo.co.in
(we connected client to smtp.mail.yahoo.com) for other email addrs it gives 507 authentication problem.(FOR MTNL CONNECTION)

I've got a website with a couple of Google ads on it. It works great, except, of course, when Internet Explorer blocks active content; in that case they simply don't show up.
I've seen a multitude of websites around with google ads that display fine, even if IE is set to block active content. I can't manage to figure out how this is done, though. Anybody know?

are you viewing your site locally or viewed off of a web server? IE will block more stuff if it is viewed locally, so if that is the case, try it off of a server as well to see if you get different results.
If you are looking at it off a web server, it must be in your code. post some of your javascript so we can compare it to other sites.

I have a console based C# program that calls web service proxy methods. I want to extract and insert the xml embedded in the SOAP body area. How is this done? I know that in Java setSOAPBody(...) and getSOAPBody(...) can do this, but how is this done in C#.
The main reason why I need to do this is that when I got a wsdl from a customer the .NET code generators produces web methods with classes as parameters. I would rather like to pass the xml text string instead of populating these self-generated classes. Is there a way to by pass this?

Hi Guys:
I have an IFrame that is sitting on a page. The iframe is under another domain than the web page. It goes off and has a script that interacts with a server side piece of code (I believe that this is JSP). When it is done, I want the iframe to have a piece of code that updates the main page but I dont know how to do this when the two pages are on different domains.
To put the whole thing into context, the main page is in essence a static page and the other page is just hiding and showing things, it is is essence inviseble. It makes the main page look dynamic but it is not really.
Does anyone have any good suggestions for this?

I am using classic ASP. I move from addCustomer.asp to addCustomerProcess.asp. The process section is where I add the data to the database. When a textbox has nothing entered into it, I want it to add Null to the field. How do I do this? Lets say the input textfield is called txtAddress, then in the process section I retrieve it like Request.Form("txtAddress"). In my SQL statement, I will do it like this.
strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblCUstomer (CustAddress) VALUES ('" & Request.Form("txtAddress") & "';"
Now when there was nothing entered in the textfield, a null value must be entered. Would I use a Replace function for this? If so, please advise.

A parameterised query is where you put a placeholder in the query string in your code and add a parameter object to the command which the framework will send to the database system. The separation of the query code from the variable data elements reduces the possibility of a SQL Injection Attack as the injected string can no longer have an effect on the SQL code.
A stored procedure is just a procedure that is written in SQL, not all database systems support the concept. Access supports a sort of semi-stored procedure like concept called Stored Queries which appear to be like a view that accepts parameters.
Some databases may not support Stored Procedures (e.g. MySQL doesn't yet support them, although I believe that the next version will).

I don't full like the next example. It shows how to build an MS Access Stored Query that accepts parameters (so it is a sort of half way house between a Stored Procedure and a View - it takes parameters, but it can only perform a single select) but the code to call the query is open to an SQL Injection Attack as it just injects the values into an SQL String in order to call the "Access Stored Query" object:

I have a section on my page which allows a user to login. When successful, I save true in a session variable called Session("isLoggedOn").
I have a menu on the left hand side of each page, and depending if the user is logged on or not displays Login (if isLoggedOn = false), or log off (if isLoggedOn is true). So when the user logs off, I use Session.Abandon at the top of the page, but the menu still displays Log off. How do I change this so that it changes Log off to Login as the session is only abandoned when the page has fully loaded.
Help would be appreciated.

You could set Session("isLoggedOn") to false at the top of the page as well as using Session.Abandon

I need to know what is the best way to test if 2 string are 100% the same. This I use to test if my password is the same as the password in my "confirm password" textbox.

I have a web application using classic ASP. It displays products on a page, from which the user can select. There are 30 products per page, and there are 120 products in total. So it is 4 pages.
When the user selects products, he can go to the next page, and also select a couple of products. But the products chosen from the previous page must still be available somewhere, maybe in a session variable, or something. Lets say the user chose product A from the first page and wants to delete it, he must just deselect the checkbox and it should be taken out of the session.
Can someone please explain to me how this can be done, and if session variables are the only solution to my problem. Maybe javascript can be used as well.
Help would be appreciated.

You seem to feel that using a session is something that you dont want to do although I am not entirely sure why. Usually when you are working ASP you use a session to persist variables throughout the website.
You cant really use Javascript because if you do then you will lose track of the variable as soon as you switch pages. Javascript isnt really intended for this.

An alternative to Cookies is to define a session variable using the navigator object, e.g.
window.navigator.session = "[put session info here]";
This defined variable is persistent for as long as the browser window is open, no matter how many new pages are loaded. You can use it just like a Cookie to track session information and it can be modified just like any other string variable.

I am writing a client/server application and users are going to be accessing server side documents via their web browser. I was wandering if there is any client side event like an "onsave" event so that i can capture when users go to "File > Save As".
I need this becouse i have a script that i am going to modify that goes into the clients machine and uploads files onto the server. In this scenerio, if the user is revising a server side document and clicks "File > Save As" i will prompt the user and ask if he/she would like to save the file on the server also. If they pick yes then i will overwrite the server side document with their local modified document.
Any ideas about how to get this to work or what event i can use?

Im accessing the client Web Service. Im giving the proxy setting through IWebProxy interface.
When i connect to the Webservice first time it doesnt get connected but if i connect to the webservice through IE by .asmx file and then access through the Application then it access the WS.
but after some time if i try to access again trough app then again shows error of connection failed.
