Hi Perspx. Long time no see
Perspx wrote: although I periodically make sure my code works in IE
I don't think so because I've seen some website(codes) that work in FF3, Opera but it didn't work in IE6 well.

How do you get to test on Safari? Do you own a Apple mac, or is there some way in which I can install it onto Windows?
Also, how do I get a copy of IE6 on my PC? I am currently running IE7, it's just for testing purposes.
Thanks

Apple have a Windows version of Safari available to download.
A search for IE6 for testing returns some promising results also.

Firefox 3.x with Firebug + Web Developer toolbar addons works for me. I like the debugging features and the way you can graphically inspect and drilldown into the html. Web Dev. toolbar has some nice stuff too.
Be careful when you use addons in FF3! I spent about 2hrs trying to track down a Javascript error yesterday only to find that one of the addons had caused it. Still havent worked out which one yet, but after disabling all 22, the error went away! I also had a problem once where one of the addons was causing a double postback each time the page loaded because it was validating the html.

I have a separate Firefox profile set up, with Firebug and various other development tools. I test there first. Generally*, once i've fixed any errors or warnings, I do not run into problems on any of the other major browsers - i'm of the opinion that your development and testing environment should be strict for this reason; a browser that lets errors slip past undetected is a browser that encourages you to inflict them on your end-users who use other browsers.
Note that by default, Firefox is fairly lax when it comes to errors and hides most warnings. You can turn on JS warnings and strict warnings using about:config or the Console Options menu in Firebug - be aware, strict warnings are very strict...
*naturally, this falls apart when i need to use a separate API for IE - selection and text ranges fall into this category.
---- You're right.
These facts that you've laid out totally contradict the wild ramblings that I pulled off the back of cornflakes packets .

There is no particular one that is better than the other. You should test on all of the major browsers to ensure your app is going to do what it is supposed to.

Alright please let me know if this is even possible.
I'm trying to load a javascript using javascript but I need some unique attributes.
Heres what I want:
Heres what I'm doing:
//I have a simple javascript file that gets loaded when the body loads, theres an 'init()' function that gets called and heres whats inside it:
init(){
var head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0];
var tag = document.createElement('script');
tag.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript');
tag.setAttribute('src', 'coolPlugin.js');
tag.setAttribute('for', 'CoolPlugin');
tag.setAttribute('event', 'specialEvent(methodName, parameters)');
head.appendChild(tag);
}
What supposed to happen is that the event reacts to a key press (lets say when the user presses '1') and the font changes colors
From what it looks like, the 'for' and 'event' attribute dont seem to get appended.
Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, ideas, or any incite on solving this problem.
Thanks

Hi ,Is there any way to change the alert icon in alert box.Thanks in advance

In short, yes, however it is not an easy thing to do (or at least it was not 3 years ago when I last did so).
You would be much better off writing your own (or downloading pre-made) javascript messages boxes, which are MUCH easier to modify.

Hello to everybody,
I'm currently writing my first "serious" Server Control, I have written a dual layer tabbed Menu (not ajax).. it's almost finished but today I discovered we'll have two different menu based on user credential.
I'll use it into a MasterPage and it will be present in all the pages I've developed.
How can I make something as some ASP.NET control do?
for example
<cc1:ServerControl1 runat="server">
<CaseAdmin>
<TopLevelItems>
<TopLevelItem Text="First Item - Admin">
<TopLevelItem Text="Second Item - Admin">
</TopLevelItems>
</CaseAdmin>
<CaseUser>
<TopLevelItems>
<TopLevelItem Text="First Item - User">
<TopLevelItem Text="Second Item - User">
</TopLevelItems>
</CaseUser>
Is somewhere an example on how to do this?
Thanks
Bests

Hi,
I have created a web part which contains a Tree control. This control shows some items under a product. I have created a custom property says "Product Name". User can set this property for web part. Then items under this product will get display as tree nodes.
The problem is if I change Product Name and click on some other link in Sharepoint site and come back to this page, tree will show items under specified product but if I change product name and click on OK on the property section, page is getting refreshed but it still shows previous tree. Mean to say web part is not getting refreshed.
I checked few blogs which have mentioned about this problem but didn't give any solution.
I would be greatful if somebody post the solution.
Thanks And Regards.

Set the CausesValidation property on the link buttons to false. This is probably better asked in the asp.net forum...

Hi Guys,
Good day! I don't know where I can post this question but I know this is the closest. I need help about my flash animation.. I created it in a 1024x768 frame then I compiled it to become a screensaver. It work fine with 1024x768 and lower resolutions but when I viewed it in a 1280x720 resolution it got pixelated.. I wonder, what can I do to make it more visually appealing in any resolution format.. please help.. by the way I want it to fit exactly the screen without sacrificing the elements inside.. help pls.. I know you guys can help me..
Thanksalot
I'm using swishmax when I created this

Don't really know anything about this, but can you make it bigger - there is less pixelation going from larger sizes to smaller sizes when stuff gets fitted.
|
|
|
|
|
1024/768 = 1.(3) Aspect Ratio
1280x720 = 1.(7) Aspect Ratio(Wide Screen Resolution)
Since resize of an image has to be proportional in order to keep the image clear and smooth, there you go. That`s the cause of your nasty and blury pixels together with the fact that the image was designed for 1024 x 768. If you want to make the flash resolution independant(though logically would still be dependant), you have to detect the resolution using Screen class(i think that's how it is called or at least was in AS2), and resize image according to the aspect ratio. You`ll need though 2 versions of the background image(in case u have one and it doesn't end up in a solid color) in order to support wide screen resolutions & normal resolutions. Try saving the graphics to the highest resolution that your screensaver is intended to run, or simply change the resolution to the 1024x760(1280x720) when u enter in screensaver mode(in case resolution in bigger than that) and than change it back when the computer ends running the screensaver.
Hope it makes sense.

JavaScript has no control over how the browser opens a file; you can link to the PDF file with JavaScript but the control stops there - it is up to the browser whether it opens the file in that page or opens it in the external PDF reader/editor.
