A huge california legislation for nurse safety and protection (AB 1136 Legislation) passed on Friday (oct 7) and suddenly we need to host multiple info feeds for all the new law and legislation content...and there is a ton! What are the best hosting options / services for this type of thing? I am the sole webmaster and really have no experience with RSS, etc. . .

I've become unhappy with the reliablity of my current shell provider, and am looking to switch. To keep the billing hassle down as much as possible I'd like to go with a single company for both services; but finding one is difficult since most inexpensive shell providers don't appear to've upgraded their web hosting servers for several years with the result that they have pitifully small storage limits.
I'm not looking for anything particularly fancy. On the shell side just some sort of linux/bsd I can run a bnc process on (not an IRCd) with a vanity host. Currently I'm running psybnc; and would like to give ZNC a try because it can play back messages sent while I was disconnected but with my limited *nix skills probably won't take the effort unless there's an easy script provided to do the initial source download and compile steps for me. My web hosting use could be best described as an http file dump that I mostly use to share high quality pictures and other random stuff with friends. I don't have anything resembling a CMS (making it run sounds like work) or any serverside scripting/databases in use; all I really want/need is a few GB of storage on my domain that I can use to toss people URLs to. I really don't care what's running on the backend; but lamp hosting more or less wins by default from a cost perspective.
I know it's a bit off the beaten trail for the average CP user; but if anyone here has any useful suggestions I'd appreciate them.

I think its a spam. Check his profile. I'm including his account on the list of spams.

You may be right, given that his profile claims he is CTO at this company.

I don't think it is spam. Either cluelessness runs to the top; or he's the only theoretical techie at his place of employment and is suffering from title inflation.

I think it surely is.
Why would he ask us if the company he is the CEO of provides such or such feature ?
Clearly he's trying to make people come to his site.

HI friends,
I have a web application written using .Net framework 3.5. The applications runs good when running under visual studio. I have installed it on my local machine. Just to be able to host my many applications I have assigned Host name to my application: www.crm_web.com and then in the hosts file in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc directory on my local machine I have included
127.0.0.1 www.crm_web.com which tells the system to look into the system itself for the crm_web.com host name. This all is fine.
Now when through my browser on my local machine I write www.crm_web.com and access the website it runs fine. But when I try to do the same thing using www.crm_web.com/default.aspx the applications doesn't runs properly at all. Infact I am even not able to login into the site. (Default.aspx is a login page and the start up page.) For me it is very necessary that I am able to properly access the website through www.crm_web.com/default.aspx also coz I need to add querystring parameters to this URL. e.g www.crm_web.com/default.aspx?name='gaurav'
Looking forward for some help.
Thanks and Regards,
Gaurav

I'm trying to understand this stuff:
If I have a URL of 'www.mywidgets.com/smallwidgets', then smallwidgets is a subdirectory under the domain www.mywidgets.com. Is that correct? The 'smallwidgets' subdirectory is part of the www.mywidgets.com website. Is that correct? Can 'smallwidgets' be a separate website with it's own domain name and widget database and processing logic and etc?
If I have a URL of 'www.mywidgets.smallwidgets.com', then smallwidgets is a subdomain of www.mywidgets.com. Is that correct? In this case, is smallwidgets a separate website? Can it be a separate web site with its own database/logic/etc if I have a domain name of www.smallwidgets.com and point it to www.mywidgets.smallwidgets.com?
Do these questions make sense or am I still too confused to ask coherent questions?
The reason I'm asking is I'm a hobby developer (C#, winforms) with a small business selling collectible stamps. I want a web presence (besides eBay), to expand the business and to expand my knowledge of web development. My budget is as close to zero cost as I can make it. I want (I think) at least two independent 'websites', say www.mystore.com for the public and www.mydevelopmentstore.com for just me, each with it's own SQL database. I'm having a terrible time figuring out what hosting I need to buy. It's obvious to me that if I buy two separate hosting plans I can do what I want, but I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with just one.

The URI is constructed as : <scheme name> : <hierarchical part> [ ? <query> ] [ # <fragment> ] ; see here[^].
In your example The domain is mywidgets.com with the server called www .
Everything after the slash - smallwidgets - must be served up by the web-site and that becomes implementation specific. You can use redirects to different sites without exposing it outside.

What userlist, are we supposed to guess what it is you are trying to obtain?
pixohp3 wrote: what ur asking is not an option
Why is that, are you attempting to hack into this site?
Your question is so vague as to suggest that whatever you are trying to do is either illegal or, at best, unethical. If you have a valid reason for extracting publicly available information from this site then explain exactly what it is and people will try to help you.

So you are trying to hack into that site; not only that but you bet your friends that you could do it, and then expect someone else to break the law for you. You will get no assistance from anyone on this site, I'm afraid. Don't forget also that the management of The Kenya National Examinations Council[^] will have no trouble in identifying you if you do happen to break in. Enjoy your time in jail.

Hi All,
I'm trying to setup a Web application in IIS 7. At the moment we have a WebSite setup www.URLHere.com. Within this WebSite we want to setup another application, for example "app1" so that it can be accessed using the URL www.URLHere.com/app1. The WebSite is setup and running fine. The problem is when it comes to setting up the sub application, when I browse to the application the error message "500 - Internal server error" is displayed. I believe I carried out the correct steps as I created a basic aspx file and set that up as a test and was able to view it in the browser through, www.URLHere.com/Test.
Should I be setting this up as an Application or a Virtual Directory? What could be causing the 500 error to be shown?
Any help on this would be really appreciated.
Thank you
