Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to know the name and make of the device the application is running on. I'm using compact framework 2.0 on windows mobile 5. I know we can get the OS version by calling Environment.OSVersion but that only gives WinCE and 5.xx.xx.
What I need is something like "Qtek", "HP", etc...
Is there a way to get that kind of info?

Call SystemParametersInfo with the SPI_GETOEMINFO flag. See here[^] for how to declare SystemParametersInfo (replace user32 with coredll), and see WinUser.h (if I recall correctly) in the SDK to get the value of SPI_GETOEMINFO.

Hello all,
i have a quick question...
i need to create a "service-like" application in c# that will basiclly run in the background with no gui... like a console app that stays open untill the device has reset.
any ideas on how i could go accross this? its an app that will monitor the gps data and intercept sms messages that have commands etc...
i created a device app but the window will always show up (even though i tried this.hide() and this.visible = false in the onLoad)

Remove the call to Application.Run in the Main function. Instead, put your code in Main, in the same way that you would write a console application for the desktop.
Note that Windows CE (and hence Windows Mobile) only supports 32 processes, some of which are reserved for system processes. You should try not to create too many processes, so that the user isn't restricted too much (Windows CE will close processes that haven't been used recently, but only if they have a window, I believe). There is a model for loading code as a 'service', but this really requires writing your code as a native C++ DLL to a specific service model.

Just wanted to get a feel of how reliable / efficient it is?

Does any body know what are the commands for sending and reading sms through Billionton GPRS wireless modem ?
the commands for gsm modem not working here ,
for ex AT+CMGL="ALL" to read sms giving error for above modem.
infact is it possible to send and receive sms through this modem using hyper terminal?
does any body have an idea?

Hello Every one,
I have developed an application that uses contact numbers stored in the mobile. I thought it would be good if i was able to dial a purticular contact number through my appliction when a click on the contact number is made .....

Hello, I would like to be able to simulate the traffic of SMS and voice calls (both incoming and outcoming).
I don't know if it is possible to debug the SMS and calling tasks on the emulator.
I have found nothing about it and I really need to know how to do it.
I guess if anyone could say me at least which are the classes/controls that manage this things.

Hi ,
I am not able to retrive the recipient list through IMessage::GetRecipientTable().
It is returning MAPI_E_NO_RECIPIENTS even the messages has recipients in "To" and "Cc" field.
I am using this in smartphone.
The messages I had synchronised with the Microsoft Outlook to the
Smartphone.
For offline messages,which I am creating new and saving to the draft
folder, it is working fine.
The problem is there for all the messages which are synchronized to the
smartphone with the Microsoft Outlook.

Hello!!
I am creating a game that will need to take input from the touch screen in order to play a game. Is there a tutorial on how to use the touch screen in the code (coordinates)? Or is it easier to make a bunch of buttons?
Also, how do I import sound effects into a game? Since I am using the CF can a modify how buttons appear (shape, size, color)?
I am using Visual Studio 2003.
Any help or advice appreciated-

Hi all, im getting started on Windows mobile, i have worked with win forms
What im trying to do is:
Connect to sql 2000 server on my desktop pc from my mobile device (emulator), populate a dataset and then save it as an xml file in my mobile device to work with it offline. (I dont want to install sql mobile on the device)
I have a code to connect to sql and populate a datatable wich is not working from my mobile app, but IT WORKS ON WIN FORMS

Ive read that some people who has had this problem was because they were not using the ip address, ive havent been able to connect
Any suggestions?? Do i have to set iny parameters on the emulator??
I know my emulator is cradled and i still get an error

Hello, its me again, but now I have the answer
After a few days i realized i had some obvius errors
#1: On my connection string i was using the IP of my local machine (127.0.0.1) wich is the same as writing localhost.
#2: I was using Integrated Security, i read somewhere while searching for the answer that it cant be used for mobile devices, YOU MUST provide a User ID and a password
I think those are the worst errors i did
So...A few thinks you should know: You must have TCP/IP enabled in you SQL Server, You should have your Device emulator craddled
But the most important part is that it looks like SQL 2000 has a little bug, wich you can fix changing the port number it listens to from 1433 to something like 1234, and once it works, you can change it back to 1433, so the final connection string looks like this:

Hi, I'm working in a project that use a 3d real time location system very precise.
I can obtain via API the position of the tag in the room.
I want to draw on pocketPc screen the map of the room and moving the tag I want to navigate in the room where are only walls.
Is it possible with WinCe or I've to use Windows Mobile that support Direct3D?
Could anyone suggest me some C# sample code ?

I want to be able to create and control a web browser on a smart phone running Windows Mobile 5.0.
If I create a new non-dialog based project under VS C++, 2005 I get a single main window created when I start the (empty) application.
Is it possible to add an address bar to this window, use it as a web browser and control it using the IWebBrowser2 interface?
I've tried doing it using the following code, but nothing happens (all the code works fine, no errors, but nothing appears on the display)
