I have the following
int inttimenow = Convert.ToInt32(dttimenow.ToShortTimeString());
int intstarttime = Convert.ToInt32(readerdate);
Imagine inttimenow was = 12.00
and
intstarttme was = 12.05
How would I write a calulation which shows how long is left to the starttime
e.g
instarttime - inttimenow = 5 minutes

You dont have to take this long route for this.insted try this
TimeSpan span = readerdate.Subtract(DateTime.Now);
Nnow you can use
span.Minutes To find out the difference between the two times in minutes.

the readerdate is a string value displaying a value from a database

Oh ya..If it is string then u need to change it in to datetime formate like this
DateTime.Parse(readerdate).Subtract(DateTime.Now);

stuck again! 
Ive got this
DateTime dtaddedtime = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(5);
TimeSpan span = dtaddedtime.Subtract(DateTime.Parse(readerdate));
Now imagine dtaddedtime = 11.30 + 5 mins which is 11.35
span = 11.35 - 11.30(readerdate)
but its showing a negative number and instead of showing 5 its showing -6??
any help wud be great

i have one simple page to input data. and i want to validate the data on server side by asp. i use script to generate input controls. i want to mark it red if some user leave some field blank. but red mark should not appear first time user loads page...
in above code first time page appear as simple page. but if user leave it Name should be Red....
i don't want to use Javascript or any client side script to do this.
PLZ help me....

Create a session variable to keep track of how many times the page has been visited.
ie
If Session["vistCount"] == null Then{
//ie the page is visited for the first time
Session["vistCount"] = 1;
Else
Session["vistCount"] = Session["vistCount"] + 1
End If

You could possibly add a viewstate variable and add in the page load If Not Page.IsPostback...
