i log into my website which uses standard provider to do the authentication

is there a method to retrun the current loged in user name?

both are used for State Management
ASP.NET session state enables you to store and retrieve values for a user as the user navigates the different ASP.NET pages that make up a Web application
as HTTP is a stateless protocol But the life span is upto that session only .
Application state is a data repository available to all classes in an ASP.NET application. Application state is stored in memory on the server and is faster than storing and retrieving information in a database. Unlike session state, which is specific to a single user session, application state applies to all users and all sessions. Therefore, application state is a useful place to store small amounts of often-used data that does not change from one user to another. The topics in this section provide information on how application state works and how to use it.

e.g As you logged in Code Project by any user name , Your activities are in one session but at the same time you can see total number of Users Logged in that is Application variable

I have a formview from which I manage to insert the data in to the database.now I want to handle the System.ArgumentNull Exception.So please give some hints regarding the same.

P.S. I have Added code in ObjectDataSource_Inserted Method.

hi guys i would like to know how can i set the default font style of a page

as now currently it seems that it is new times roman when ever i type something

izzit possible to change this?

and also does any one know what does this means:

Hi,

You can set default font style of a page in the Body tag.

<body style="font-family:verdana;font-size:10pt">

Use Style sheet for that and apply style sheet class name to your body tag of aspx page

I had created one desktop application in C#. I am providing that application to download from a web application.But i need to download some data from webapplication,while downloading the C# application.Do i need scripting for that?

You can store source code in the App_Code folder, and it will be automatically compiled at run time. The resulting assembly is accessible to any other code in the Web application. The App_Code folder therefore works much like the Bin folder, except that you can store source code in it instead of compiled code. The App_Code folder and its special status in an ASP.NET Web application makes it possible to create custom classes and other source-code-only files and use them in your Web application without having to compile them independently.

The App_Code folder can contain source code files written as traditional class files — that is, files with a .vb extension, .cs extension, and so on. However, it can also include files that are not explicitly in a specific programming language. Examples include .wsdl (Web service description language) files and XML schema (.xsd) files. ASP.NET can compile these files into assemblies.

The App_Code folder can contain as many files and subfolders as you need. You can organize your source code in any way that you find convenient, and ASP.NET will still compile all of the code into a single assembly that is accessible to other code anywhere in the Web application.

If you ASP.NET application can access database, Using the same login information you can access the backend database also. My suggestion could be keep your login informations secure .

you can call Session vaiables and application variables on the page_load event.
