If you are using forms authentication make sure you call
FormsAuthentication.SignOut();
otherwise you need to revoke the session, cookie, whatever you use to indicate a user has logged in.

Create a Message logout page onto the load page write the code Session.RemoveAll()

Hi there,
I have a rather large form with a couple of sections (simple graphical groupings, so that the user doesn't get confused) on. Now the user has scrolled down to section 3 and changed a value in a dropdown, which causes an Postback (AutoPostback = true). I process the Postback and when the page is sent back to the client, I'd like to append a #section3 to the url causing the browser to navigate down the page to the previously active section. can this be done? and how do I replace it with #section14 it if the guy selects another value in the section 8?

thanks for your reply. but this would need the 2.0 version, which I don't have. any ideas on how to do it in 1.1? I'm currently messing around but I believe, there must be a simple, obvious solution for it.

I am using formauthentication but I want to let everyone even guest to be able to view my default page. Right now it is setup to send people right to the login page because the authcookie isn't set. Any suggestions or examples would be great. Thank Mark I finally got FormsAuthenication to work.

You could place all of your files in a folder under your root. Then either by including a web.config file in that folder with the authentication and authorization elements set correctly, or by including the settings in the main web.config and using the path attribute you can control access to these pages while still allowing anonymous access to other pages.

Hi..
I wrote a code to read from a file(Polls.config).Locally no problem occured but after uploading the project to the web a dialog appeared asking me for the UserName and Password and when I click Cancel Button the following error occur:
Access to the path "C:\Sites\Single25\nabeel1eagle\webroot\AdministratorSite\Polls.config" is denied.
Please..could any one help?

I'm writing a project in ASP.NET 2.0 (C#, if it matters to you). I want to take advantage of the security framework provided by .NET 2.0. However, the client demands that the backend be SQL Server 2000, not 2005.
I ran the setup utility (aspnet_whatever.exe, I can't remember the name now), made entries in the web.config to point to the database, and I successfully set up 5 users and multiple roles. In the development environment, everything works great.
I deployed the project to a staging server (that can also recognize the SQL server I set up the database on), and the login control told me that my login could not be verified. Drilling deeper into the Membership class I found that the framework is not finding any users at all.
I next ran SQL Profiler to make sure the database could be found. It is. So if I have the right user name and password, and the app is communicating with the database, why can I not log in on the deployed app?
I've read on multiple websites many others who have experienced the same problem, but no one seems to have a solution. Please help. Thanks.

Use database instead. When a user makes a choice save this as an information for that user as "UserHasMadeChoice" column and make its value 1. Then when the user makes a choice first you control this value for that user. If UserHasMadeChoice is 1 then you show a warning like "You have already made a choice"

Instead of what?
Set a session variable to indicate the page visited then check it when the page loads, if it indicates a page has already been visted, then redirect to another page.

What is the best way to generate 3D graphics in ASP.NET 2.0? I don't want anything that moves around on the page, I just want to import a bmp/jpeg/png, rotate it in 3D, maybe shade it, and then capture an image of it.
AFAIK, a lot of the charting components (e.g. Dundas, Nevron) seem to use OpenGL. Is there some limitation with DirectX on a server?
How should I get started? I can't seem to find much with my searches ?!?!?

i made a custom error in web.config as the following code

The problem is propably the casing of the word statuscode, it should be statusCode

I have been using Cassini (lightweight web server) and everytime something goes wrong I suspect that Cassini is the cluprit.... when actually Cassini is probably not the problem. 
So I am wondering about Cassini limitations - specifically should membership & role functionality work just fine?  Should I use IIS instead when learning about membership & roles --- will it work with fewer issues for membership & roles.
I merely using Cassini right now to teach myself ASP.NET 2.0. I do like the fact that I do not need to go through the work of creating virtual directory etc, just to do a quick demo project.
More generally this is what I have found to be the mentioned limitations or issues with Cassini use. This is only from a book and I do not claim full understanding of these limitations 1) does not scale to more than on user 2) because of simplifications to the user model, Cassini cannot support a robust security scheme [ is this referring to ssl security?] 3) when you run a page in Cassini it locks the page back in the IDE, so you must close the browser before working on the page back in the IDE. 4) Cassini needs a robust firewall [ so does this imply using IIS you automatically get better security somehow?]
Does anyone have advice on what to add to the list of Cassini limitations?
I did do a quick google search on "Cassini" and "Cassini limitations" I did find this site http://forums.asp.net/67/ShowForum.aspx[^]
There certainly a lot of issues with getting things to work with Cassini on the latter site. I did take an ASP.NET class and we only used Cassini.

hi bhasker,
use directoryinfo class which is present in the system.io namespace.
To set the permission to folders, the following steps are to be followed:-
Right click the folder to which you want to set permission.
Select properties.
Now, click on the Security tab.
Click on the Add button or select your user name from the given list.
Set the permission for the folder.
Click on the Apply button then press ok button to set the permission.

I am still having trouble with Form Authentication. Looks like my vb code doens't like the FormsAuthentication.RedirectfromLoginpage. I think its a variable that is not declared.
