im new in asp.net and c#, and i have a web project where in one page i made a form with textboxes e.t.c. to insert data in the datasource, and i use also dropdowh lists from which i can select data.But if the data i want is not included in the dropdown list i click on a button to open a new window where i have another form to insert data to the table from which the drop downlist takes it's contents.The problem is that after i insert sth and i close the window and return to the previous page i have to refresh that page to see in the dropdownlist what i had insert and i loose everything else i had writen in the textboxes e.t.c..
Is there anything i can do ?????

You can use child pop up window to do the task and on closing of the child window you can refresh the parent page. Check the viewstate if you are loosing the data in the postbacks.

Hi, im simply trying to set autopostback=true on an asp dropdownlist.
this works until i place a button on the form, now the autopostback will not fire
and a javascript error gets thrown "object doesnt support property or method"
any ideas?

thanks for the reply goofy, found out what it was.
I initially added the button through vs2005 which, set the id of the button to "submit", which interfered with the autopostback code

Which assembly is it talking about, DeklaritLibrary.dll, WebShopData.dll or the Enterprise Library dll's?
I have strong named my Deklarit generated assembly and added the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute to the assembly. The problem only occurs on write to the database, read connection is working fine.
For those not familiar, I am using Deklarit 4.0 and the generated assembly uses Micrososft Enterperise Library which I have also recompiled with the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute on the Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Common.dll, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.dll & Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Security.Cryptography.dll. The host is a shared host and they do not support full trust and I cannot override this setting in web.config.
I have trawled Google and almost everywhere else and I cannot find a simple explanation of how to overcome this problem.
Can anyone please help, it is driving me nuts and consuming alot of time to get nowhere?

How can we show a selected directory path from web server?
I need all possible drives and directories of server to be dispalyed in a tree structure using ASP.Net and c#. by selecting a directory from the tree the directory path need to be displayed in a text box.

Howdy
I have an arraylist that I bind to a datagrid and display on a webpage
On the webpage, the header on the datagrid has a column header of ITEM
I'm trying to change this display the correct name, but can't figure it out.
I've looked at examples for tablespace and it seems complicated and I'd need major rewrites in the program
Seems like I ought to be able to set something in the properties field - like 'Collections" - this has a bound columns property with header text - but I can't figure out what to put for 'data field' - program keeps blowing up on this

Hey all
I've got an aspx page that has a number of text boxes on it. I have the following javascript function that counts characters within the text box:
function myLength(lbl,tb,max){
//lbl is the ID of the control that displays the count
//tb is the ID of the control that is being counted
//max is the maximum amount of characters allowed in the control
lbl.innerHTML = tb.innerHTML.length + " of " + max;
}
Within the vb page associated to the aspx page I have the following code:
txtTitle.Attributes.Add("OnKeyUp", "myLength(document.getElementById('" _
+ lblWC_Title.ClientID + "'),document.getElementById('" + _
txtTitle.ClientID + "')," + txtTitle.MaxLength.ToString + ")")
This adds the onkeyup event to the text box and passes the correct client ID's into the javascript function.
Now my problem is this, if my asp text box is multiline then the word count works fine but nothing happens if it is a text box set to be single line. I use the same methods as shown above for both types of text box. Any ideas on what is causing this?

Sorry for taking so long to reply, didnt email me like it said it would. The problem is solved, it was because a textbox with multiline selected is rendered as textarea which has both innerHTML and innerTEXT where as a single line text box does not have either of these. Instead changing the .innerHTML or .innerTEXT to simply '.value' solved the problem.

That can't be done. When the server side code runs, the client side code doesn't exist any more (or rather, is doomed to be replaced by the page that the server side is creating).
If you want to run some code server side, then some code client side, you have to make the server side code output client code to be run when the next page loads in the browser.

The file is cached by the browser. You can prevent this by changing the url of the file, for an example by adding a parameter containing a timestamp, a random number or a counter.
