You are confusing client side scripting with server side scripting. Your script is running on the server, but the button click event is occuring on the client, as you have not defined the submit button as runat="server"

You just create a new web page in Visual Studio, drag-drop a button on the page. And double-click on that button, now you can put your code in the button event handler...

You have excluded most of the error message, so most of the information is missing, like if it's a compile time or runtime error, and where it occurs.
I can't see that you are using "SubmitBtn_click" anywhere in your code, only "SubmitBtn_Click".

hi to all,
I haver write a code where read a file from one place and write it to another temporary place on server throgh stream and then zip it and download the zip file now i wnat the delete temporary file created within code but this give the error " can't delete because file is used by another process" where as i close my all stream object prperly where that file is use.
give any help is welcome

What was the error returned?
ds.Tables[0].Columns[0].ColumnName should work unless your dataset is null or contains no tables, or the table has no columns at all.
BTW, why are you using alert? If you mean to access the dataset from Javascript, you need to convert the dataset into either an XML or Javascript array first.

Hi,
I have two problems,
First I want to show the master details data in a single grid (or a grid within a grid or a repeater within a repeater).
The structure what I want is something like, On the first column i ant to sho different rows which have the info about the master say customerid , customer name ,customer address.
And in the second column there will be all the details rows, which will contain multiple orders.
Actually it should look like in a table its only two colums.
I hope i am clear enough.
Secondly,I dont want to edit any record, i just want to display them.
So which control should i use, Repeater,DataView or grid.
Please provide me with the link or a sample code in C#.

I recently went through the learning of master/detail grids. All I can say is if you don't want to edit--good! It will make life easier.  There are lots of articles but the ones I found most helpful were the 18 part series on datagrids at 4guysfromrolla. This is the link to part 18 but it has links to the other ones. Part 14 is the master/detail article.

If you use the datagrid you will use ItemTemplate for your columns. Basically it's like a datagrid, and then creating another datagrid inside of it for the detail stuff.
There are some articles here for nested datagrids (I'd search on those keywords) that also show how to insert drop-downs and things like that. But personally, I really like that 18 part series, especially if you have never worked with datagrids.
I don't know if someone else feels Repeater or DataView is better, but I had not programmed asp.net in a looong time and I eventually got it.
Feel free to go through the articles and post again if you have more specific questions.

You're just looking for the code to connect to the database? Because all the datagrid setup (columns, headers and such) is done in the asp part.
