Hi, I have customErrors set to "on" in the web.config file.
I would like to know what the errormessage says. e.g: the resource cannot be found.
I know that you can specify errors in the web.config but that looks a bit stupid to me.
Is there any other way to get the latest error that occured?
I tried
Exception exception = Server.GetLastError();
on my errorpage so I could get the Exception message.
This, however, does not work, the exception is null.
Does anyone have any bright ideas?

You said that you want to access the latest error on the error page, that also means the error page is not a static htm file, but a web page .aspx. So if you configure to redirect to the error page in the customErrors section, you then need to persist the error in the Application_Error handler so that you can access it in the error web page. Another option is that you don't configure the custom error page in the customErrors section, instead you can use the Server.Transfer to redirect to the error page in the Application_Error.

How to add search facility in database driven web site and link the results with their respective .aspx pages ?
EXAMPLE:
Search: sam Go
RESULT TYPE VIEW EDIT
sam.j customer view edit

you just need to seet your query with a search clause:
where customerName like '%sam%'
or even better, set up a full text index on customer name and use the contains predicate.

now, we use indexing server when we are searching pages i am talking about getting infomation from the database then relating that information to their respective .aspx pages.
EXAMPLE:
Say u have customer.aspx form ,group.aspx,etc
now u search the database with a key word sam then it should display this word with their respective .aspx pages links and allow to edit or view.
Sorry if u are bored, but i need this urgently.

At a guess, you'll have to write some kind of function to check what data is returned from the db and then display it all in a gridView of some kind with links, as appropriate to the type of data returned, to the edit/view pages.
I don't think there's some kind of simple way of doing this...
But never worked with indexing server, so don't know...

Hi.I'm storing some value in viewstae and then using Response.Redirect to open same page but viewstate is lost.The info which i m storing is only relevant to specific page.Plz tell me what's the way out.?Any help is appreciated.

Can't imagine that you lose the viewstate over a redirect, but try storing it in the Session or even better, set some parameters in the querystring

Yes, you will lose the viewstate - it is specific to an instance of a page. Response.redirect will fire a new instance of a page and a new viewstate.
Like KrIst0fK said, stick it in the session (or don't use response.redirect, but instead postback).

I'm using a dropdownlist to display some(DataTextField) text and some numbers (DataValueField) are set as their corresponding values.These numbers are stored in database.If I want to select the text in dropdownlist on the basis of no fetched from the database. How to do it? Any help is appreciated

hai this is ajay.
i have a datagrid.i want to give a heading to this datagrid.is ther any attribute of datagrid which can achieve it.i have used a panel just above the grid which acts as a heading for the grid but its size is rigid,it should be in accordance with the size of grid,so that it comes in the center and look like a heading.
plz resolve my problem.

this is nikesh.you can use html table of 2*1.Put ur datadrid in 2nd row and
right ur heading in first row and set the 2 property of that table .
first one align=center second one valign=center.
i think it will work fine

Of right click on the datagrid, go to property builder and set the header text for the columns...;P
