Hi,
A drop down list is populated using datasource as below
ddlUsers.DataSource = Membership.GetAllUsers
ddlUsers.DataBind()
But now I want the drop down to show the following item as the first item.
If I just use the following line, it gets added to the last item in the list.
ddlUsers.Items.Add("<-- select a user -->")

Use the Insert method to specify where the item should be added:
ddlUsers.Items.Insert(0, "<-- select a user -->")

Before binding value to the dropdown write the below code,
ddlUsers.Items.Clear();
newListItem = new ListItem();
newListItem.Value = "----Select a user---";
newListItem.Text = "----Select a user----";
ddlUsers.Items.Add(newListItem);
ddlUsers.DataSource = Membership.GetAllUsers
ddlUsers.DataBind()

You can add this line to get the desired result.
ddlUsers.Items.Insert(0,new ListItem("-- select a user --","0"));

Hello,
I am creating a flight website that will allow users to select places that they want to fly to. They will select the departure and destination from selecting the airport from the combo box.
My problem is, that there are many airports in the world. Would I have to manually insert all of them, or is they a method to collect all the airport and fill the combo boxes with them. If did this the manual way, l think i could miss some, and it would take a long time.

at least once you have toput all of yhrm in database and then later u can fill urs comboboxes from database.

but for that also you have to take data from somewhere else. ultimately somewhere it ahould be already present. Are you trying to get that data from somewhere else, where it is already maintained?

The following link has all the airport codes, city, and country. This is what l want.

The airport city would have to be loaded into the combo box for the user to select from, there are over a 1000.
My question would it be quicker to load them from a SQL server or from a XML file?

Right click on datagrid in form, select property builder, go to format and set the desired widths.

By any chance are your columns being autogenerated (i.e. number of columns dependant on the sql you insert)? In which case, you can't set them at design time, you'll have to dynamically set them at run time...
Or uncheck the autogenerated columns checkbox in the property builder and explictly bind your columns. You might want to head over to www.4guysfromrolla.com[^] and check out their extensive review of the datagrid.

For any project in ASP.net is it is neccessary to make DataSet.xsd file
or we can hard code Dataset and DataAdapter ?
Which one is good for any project and will show good performance?

I want to use themes in my application, so i have created one skin file. But in skin file i m not able to add any third party control. It only allow me to add asp.net control.

Hi
I want to print a word File and make sure that the file goes to the printing Queue of the client machine. Asp.net provides a way to process a request of printing directly from the server but in that case I dont know from which machine the request of printing is coming from. Can anyone help on that.
