I want to develop a web application and I am not sure whether I should do it in DHTML or Silverlight.
I could use the rich UI capabilities of Silverlight, but on the other hand
Silverlight is heavy on the client and not many users installed it.
Are there any solutions or suggestions?
thanks alot!

If I were you I would just stick to using DHTML, as like you say not everyone has silverlight installed

Hi,
I am using .net 2.0. I want to search & highlight the text in datagrid like Edit->FindNext option present in NotePad, Word etc. I saw many examples to highlight the searched text within the datagrid at once. But I want to search the text one by one. If anyone know the idea please help me to implement this.
Thanks.

hope this could help
http://www.nsftools.com/misc/SearchAndHighlight.htm[^]
in the highlighting function, just break the code and return after the first highlight and hold the value in a local variable and see if you could give that value in the local variable as the starting index for the next search, hope this could work in the code u claimed u currently have, the one that does well for one time search. But defintly needs some tuning.

Go through this site. You can add and encrypt the connection strings:

Thanks for the solution it worked fi9

The ConfigurationManager class has functionality that would allow you to load the configuration file, target the section that has the connection string (typically, ConnectionStrings or AppSettings), modify the connectionstring and then save back. You will need to import System.Configuration namespace.

I need to validate a URL. At present, I'm using a regular expression, (http(s)?://((w{3})+\.)+([\w-]+\.)+(\w{2,4})+(/[\w- ./?%&=]*)?)|((w{3})+\.)+([\w-]+\.)+(\w{2,4})+(/[\w- ./?%&=]*)?
This Validation expression will work fine only when the URL is in full, like for eg: http://www.abc.com.
There are cases where the url can't have www. In that case, this expression will throw error. For eg: http://forums.microsoft.com. So how to modify the above url? Can anybody please provide any help on this?
Thanks

Just break it into scheme (protocol) and host.
Scheme is everything before ://
Host is everything after :// and before first / (or \)
Path, file, arguements is everything from first / on.
e.g. http://microsoft.com:80/path/file?arg1=1&arg2=2
scheme = "http"
host = "microsoft.com:80" (actually host:port)
path = "/path/" (some leave off trailing /)
file = "file"
args = "arg1=1&arg2=2"
...cmk
The idea that I can be presented with a problem, set out to logically solve it with the tools at hand, and wind up with a program that could not be legally used because someone else followed the same logical steps some years ago and filed for a patent on it is horrifying.

I want to upload an image to sqlserver, i use fileupload control and upload the image.
But when I retrieve it to gideview it appears as a text: System.Byte[]
How can i solve this problem..
thanks

I always say that it is better to store the file location of the image in your database rather then the actual image. This means that your database doesnt become bloated and at the same time you can retrieve the image in almost the same way.

How many versions are there?

I think most people in this forum would recommend anything over Vista.

These are the versions
1) Vista Home Basic
2) Vista Home Premium
3) Business
4) Ultimate
which version is better?

I'm not sure that it makes a huge amount of difference which version you choose. I have worked on a variety of OPs and found that VWD or Visual Studio performs fine on most.
If you have a slow machine obviously this will cause a problem.
