Im tying to write an exception message using javascript in code behind, using
catch (Exception ex)
{
string err = ex.Message;
string script = "alert('" + err + "');";
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(Page, Page.GetType(), "Msg", script, true);
}
But sometimes the message doesnt get dislayed and the whole application freezes, i have noticed that its caused by the content of ex.Message
eg "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.String'." - gives a problem. The easiest thing to do is to replace the ' signs and it works fine, but this is applies to this error message only, is there a generic solution for this problem.
Thank you.

|
|
|
try with.. this
catch (Exception ex)
{
response.write("'alert(' + ex.Message + ');'");
}
|
|
|
|
|
Thank you for your response, but there is no output from response;
i just took it as you wrote it, maybe its the synhax for response i will chaeck that and will come back to u.
Thank u.
|
|
|
|
|
response.write("<script>'alert(' + ex.Message + ');'</script>");
this wont work if you have ' in the exception message
think we have to write a method which replaces all special characters (ex: ' with \' and " with \")
|
|
|
|
|
You can try
Response.write("alert('" + err + "');");
You can also try placing a label on the page then assign text to label as
message.Text = "");

You haven't got the concept of this site. Read this[^] especially point2 and point9.

My suggestion - don't make all your text bold

You'll probably want to create an LDAP query against your active directory. There are a number of examples online - just bear in mind that your asp.net process will need to have sufficient authorisation to make these queries.

Hi coders,
I want to display one HTML file contents in my aspx page. I am using for that. what I have written is:
aspx page:
<iframe frameborder="no" id="htmlAboutUs" style="width:100%; height:500px;" runat="server" scrolling="no">
cs file:
htmlAboutUs.Attributes["src"] = Server.MapPath(FolderName + "/styles/About-Us.html");
where FolderName is comming from session.
Its not working but. its showing blank page in result(not even "Page Not Found").
Then I tried another one:
FileStream fs = new FileStream(Server.MapPath(FolderName
+ "/styles/About-Us.html"), FileMode.Open);
byte[] data = new byte[fs.Length];
fs.Read(data, 0, (int)fs.Length);
fs.Close();
string dataString = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(data);
htmlAboutUs.InnerText = dataString;
It is also not working. I have checked that its bringing correct data in dataString but not displaying. mean my file contents are properly read but its not assigned to iframe. Please give some gidence.
Thanks for any help.

That is because you are using MapPath to return the Physical path as seen internally on the server. The browser does not have access to that. You must use a URL (http://domain/folder/styles/About-Us.html)

I am using localhost anyways. and i think, on web server also, MapPath should work properly.
Thanks.

No. MapPath will give the physical path to the file. That physical path is not accessible from browser. So you need to render path like www.yourdomain.com/folder/filename.html

It should do. You may have to change some settings in the web.config to match your new environment. Database connection strings for example, you'll want to turn debugging off, etc.
vasillis_zayetsav wrote: I dont have admin rights
There may be IIS settings that you need to change that require admin rights, if it isn't already set up for you.
vasillis_zayetsav wrote: the proper way to publish a website created in VS2005 on windows 2003 server
Publish the website, copy the PrecompiledWeb folder that was created in the publish operation to the server and put it in the correct place.
